Energy Clips are full weapon charges, not bundles of individual bullets. Each clip completely recharges one compatible energy weapon when you reload. A stack holds five clips, so it represents five complete reloads—but the number of shots you receive depends on the weapon.

As of Store Update 1.38.0, Energy Clips work with the Jupiter, Equalizer, Aphelion, and Dolabra. They are especially valuable against ARC armor, and understanding when to reload, where to store them, and how to craft them can make a major difference to the cost and success of a raid.

What are Energy Clips in ARC Raiders?

Energy Clip is a Rare ammunition item used by ARC Raiders’ energy weapons. Unlike ordinary ammunition, it does not represent a fixed number of rounds. Using one clip restores a compatible weapon to its full charge.

  • Stack size: 5
  • Weight: 0.3 kg per clip
  • Current sell value: 200 Coins per clip
  • Function: One complete recharge for one compatible weapon

Energy Clips are effective against ARC armor. Their penetration varies by weapon, but current item data describes it as never being worse than Heavy Ammo. See the current Energy Clip item data for the latest weapon-specific information.

Which weapons use Energy Clips?

The current compatible-weapon list includes four Legendary weapons:

Weapon Type
Jupiter Legendary sniper rifle
Equalizer Legendary LMG
Aphelion Legendary rifle
Dolabra Legendary experimental shotgun

Older guides may list only Jupiter, Equalizer, and Aphelion. They are outdated: the Dolabra was added in Patch 1.22.0 and also uses Energy Clips. Its two firing profiles are a wide, short-range hip-fire blast and a tighter, medium-range aimed beam. Its documented magazine size is eight, and it cannot be upgraded. More weapon information is available in the current weapon list and the Dolabra details.

How Energy Clip reloading works

  1. Equip a compatible energy weapon.
  2. Fire until it needs recharging, or manually initiate a reload.
  3. Use the normal reload command.
  4. One Energy Clip is consumed and the weapon returns to its full charge.

The ammunition gained from one clip is weapon-dependent. Therefore, five Energy Clips do not equal a universal number of shots; they equal five full reloads.

Do not reload an energy weapon too early

The most important practical difference between Energy Clips and ordinary ammunition is that an early reload can waste the remaining charge. Community testing and player reports describe the weapon as consuming the current Energy Clip as a discrete charge during reloading.

In practice, avoid reloading simply because you have fired a few shots. If you reload with charge remaining, the unused portion may be discarded. That is particularly painful when using an expensive Legendary weapon, where a wasted charge can cost more than the fight itself.

There is no reliable universal way to cancel a reload after it begins. The result can depend on the weapon and the stage of its reload animation, so treat the reload command as a commitment. Player reports documenting the issue include early-reload testing and reload-cancellation reports.

How to craft Energy Clips

Energy Clips are now available by default in the Workbench. You do not need the Equalizer blueprint to unlock this recipe. That change arrived with Patch 1.17.0 on February 24, 2026, which specifically made Energy Clips available by default.

Where to find Energy Clips

You can obtain Energy Clips through several routes:

  • Scavenging
  • Loot from ARC units, especially Harvesters and Vaporizers
  • Crafting at the Workbench
  • Purchasing them from Tian Wen
  • Completing the Furtive Meetings quest, which awards five clips

They can also appear as ammunition loot in the environment, on defeated Raiders, and around destroyed ARC units. The current item page and ammunition reference list the known sources.

Energy Clip prices: buy, sell, and craft values

Do not confuse the three different numbers attached to Energy Clips:

Transaction or output Current amount
Tian Wen purchase price 3,000 Coins per clip
Sell value 200 Coins per clip
Crafting output 5 clips per recipe

A complete five-clip crafting batch therefore has a displayed sell value of 1,000 Coins, not 5,000 Coins. Patch 1.20.0 reduced the sell price from 1,000 to 200 Coins per clip on March 17, 2026, specifically to prevent Energy Clips from becoming an unintentionally profitable crafting operation. The official Patch 1.20.0 notes document that change, while current trader data lists Tian Wen’s price at 3,000 Coins.

Can Energy Clips go in the Safe Pocket?

Yes. Energy Clips can be placed in the Safe Pocket, and pocketed ammunition can be used when reloading. This behavior applies to ammunition generally rather than being unique to Energy Clips.

The trade-off is straightforward:

  • Clips in your backpack are lost if your Raider is eliminated.
  • Clips in the Safe Pocket survive elimination.
  • Safe Pocket slots used for ammunition cannot hold another protected item, such as a blueprint or key.

A pocketed clip stack protects up to five charges in one slot, but whether that is worthwhile depends on the raid. The Safe Pocket overview covers its death-protection function, while player testing has documented ammunition reloads from the pocket.

Why Energy Clips matter strategically

They are the real operating cost of Legendary energy weapons

The cost of carrying Jupiter, Equalizer, Aphelion, or Dolabra is not limited to obtaining or repairing the weapon. Every engagement can consume one or more complete charges. Missed sniper shots, unnecessary LMG reloads, and premature reloads turn a limited resource into little or no useful damage.

They are particularly useful against ARC armor

Energy weapons and their ammunition are especially relevant in armor-heavy PvE encounters, including Harvester and Vaporizer activity. A stack of five clips gives you five full reloads without requiring several different ammunition stacks, making it useful for planned ARC fights.

That does not make energy weapons automatically best for every Raider-versus-Raider encounter. PvP value depends on the weapon, range, damage profile, and whether the potential gain justifies risking a Legendary weapon and its charges. Embark’s balance notes discuss Jupiter and Aphelion in PvP-specific terms; the Patch 1.17.0 notes are the relevant official reference.

They change your inventory decisions

One five-clip stack occupies a single slot and weighs relatively little, but Energy Clips are also valuable loot and a scarce combat resource. Depending on your objective, you may want to:

  • Bring clips into a raid and protect them in the Safe Pocket.
  • Keep them in the backpack to preserve Safe Pocket space for a blueprint, key, or more valuable item.
  • Extract with found clips for future Legendary-weapon runs.
  • Craft them from Advanced ARC Powercells and Batteries.
  • Sell them only when the 200-Coin return is more useful than the ammunition.

Common outdated Energy Clip claims

“You need the Equalizer blueprint.”
Outdated. Since Patch 1.17.0, the recipe is available by default in the Workbench.
“Energy Clips can only be bought.”
Outdated. They can also be crafted, scavenged, looted, and earned from Furtive Meetings.
“One clip gives five shots.”
Wrong. One clip fully recharges one compatible weapon, and the number of shots varies by weapon.
“They sell for 1,000 Coins each.”
Outdated. The current sell value is 200 Coins per clip.
“Only three weapons use them.”
Outdated. The Dolabra also uses Energy Clips.
“They are only useful in PvE.”
Too broad. They are especially effective against ARC armor, but energy weapons can also be used against Raiders. Their PvP value depends on the specific weapon and situation.

Practical checklist

  • Check that your weapon is Jupiter, Equalizer, Aphelion, or Dolabra.
  • Carry enough clips for the fights you actually expect to take.
  • Let the charge run low before reloading whenever possible.
  • Use the Safe Pocket when preserving charges matters more than protecting another item.
  • Craft at Speranza’s Workbench using one Advanced ARC Powercell and two Batteries for five clips.
  • Remember that selling returns only 200 Coins per clip.
