Yes—you can now register one DualSense controller with up to four devices. Each saved pairing uses a slot represented by Triangle, Circle, Cross or Square. Hold PS + the assigned face button for about three seconds to switch between registered devices without repeating Bluetooth pairing each time.

This is a multi-device memory feature, not four simultaneous connections: the controller connects to only one device at a time. The feature began rolling out with the PS5 system software update on September 17, 2025, so older guides that require full re-pairing every time are out of date. See Sony’s current DualSense pairing guide for the latest supported procedure.

Quick reference: DualSense device slots

Slot Shortcut Suggested device
1 PS + Triangle PS5
2 PS + Circle Windows PC
3 PS + Cross iPhone
4 PS + Square Android phone

This layout is only a suggestion. You can assign devices to any slot.

  • Register a device: hold PS + the chosen face button for more than five seconds, then pair from the device’s Bluetooth menu.
  • Switch to a registered device: hold PS + its face button for about three seconds.
  • Last-connected device: with the controller off, pressing PS reconnects to the most recently used device.

What multi-device pairing actually does

The DualSense stores up to four registered Bluetooth pairings in its memory. A slot lets the controller remember how to reconnect to a particular PS5, PC, iPhone or Android device.

Playstation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller - White (Renewed)
  • Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
  • Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
  • Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
  • DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
  • PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.

It does not keep four wireless connections active. The controller can control only one target at a time, and switching changes the active connection. You also cannot use one DualSense to control a PS5, PC, iPhone and Android phone simultaneously.

If all four slots are occupied, Sony says registering another device replaces the least recently connected slot. Pair a fifth device carefully if you want to preserve an existing setup.

Before you begin

  • A DualSense wireless controller.
  • Bluetooth on the PC, iPhone or Android device, unless you plan to use USB.
  • A USB-C cable that supports data, such as a cable described as “charge and sync” or “charging and data.” A charge-only cable may charge the controller but cannot reliably handle pairing, firmware updates or PS5 reconnection.
  • A supported operating-system version.
  • A game or app that supports controllers. Successful Bluetooth pairing does not guarantee that every game will recognize the controller.

Supported operating systems

Sony’s current compatibility information lists these minimum versions for DualSense Bluetooth and USB connections:

Platform Minimum version listed by Sony
Windows PC Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11
Mac macOS Big Sur 11.3
iPhone iOS 14.5
iPad iPadOS 14.5
Apple TV tvOS 14.5
Android Android 12

Android compatibility is not guaranteed for every phone, even when the operating system meets the listed baseline. Older articles may cite Android 10, but Sony’s current US support page lists Android 12 as the safer minimum for this guide. Sony also warns that compatibility can vary by device and application.

Update the controller before setting up slots

Updating first reduces the chance that an older controller firmware version will lack the multi-device feature or behave inconsistently.

Update from a PS5

  1. Pair the controller with the PS5.
  2. Open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General).
  3. Select DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software.
  4. Follow the on-screen update instructions.

Do not rely on a firmware number from an old guide; Sony’s available version changes over time.

Update from a Windows PC

Install Sony’s official PlayStation Accessories application, connect the DualSense to Windows with a USB-C data cable, and follow the application’s update instructions.

Pair the DualSense with a PS5

For the initial PS5 connection or recovery after a problem:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Turn on the PS5.
  2. Connect the DualSense with a compatible USB data cable.
  3. Press the PS button.
  4. Wait for the light bar to blink and a player indicator to illuminate.
  5. Disconnect the cable if you want to use the controller wirelessly.

Sony’s multi-device instructions assign the PS5 to the next available slot during this process. If you are moving the controller to another PS5 console, do not assume that every console is automatically covered by an existing registration; Sony separately documents pairing a controller with another PS5. Use the USB pairing method if the target console does not reconnect.

Assign a specific slot to a device

Manual assignment is the best option because it makes the switching shortcuts predictable.

  1. Turn the controller off. If a player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it turns off.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable.
  3. Choose a face button for the device.
  4. Hold PS + Triangle, PS + Circle, PS + Cross or PS + Square for more than five seconds.
  5. Release when the light bar and player indicator flash twice.
  6. Open Bluetooth settings on the target device.
  7. Select the DualSense entry shown by that device.

The five-second registration shortcut is different from the three-second switching shortcut. Confusing those timings is a common reason a device is paired normally but not assigned to the intended slot.

Automatic slot assignment

You can also let the controller use the next available slot:

PlayStation DualSense™ Wireless Controller – Chroma Indigo
  • Feel you in-game actions and environement simulated through haptic feedback
  • Experience varying force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
  • Chat online through the built-in microphone
  • Connect a headset directly via the 3.5mm jack
  • Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
  1. Turn off the controller and disconnect USB.
  2. Hold Create + PS for at least three seconds.
  3. Pair the controller from the target device’s Bluetooth menu.

Use manual assignment if you want a memorable layout such as PS5 on Triangle, PC on Circle, iPhone on Cross and Android on Square.

Pair the DualSense with a Windows PC

Bluetooth pairing

  1. Open Windows Bluetooth settings.
  2. Choose Add device, then select Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure the controller is off and disconnected from USB.
  4. Hold Create + PS until the light bar flashes.
  5. Select Wireless Controller or the DualSense entry shown by Windows.
  6. Launch a game that supports controllers.

Windows may display the controller as Wireless Controller rather than using the DualSense name. That label does not by itself indicate a problem.

USB connection

Connect the controller to the PC with a USB-C data cable. USB is useful when the computer has no Bluetooth, wireless input is unstable, firmware needs updating, or a game requires wired DualSense haptics.

PC support depends on the game, launcher and input layer. Some titles support the controller directly; others expose it as a generic controller, show Xbox button prompts or require Steam Input or another compatibility layer. Do not assume that pairing guarantees adaptive triggers, haptics, microphone or speaker support in every Windows game. Sony says PC haptics may require USB and that feature support varies by title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pair the DualSense with an iPhone

Bluetooth pairing

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. Turn off the controller and disconnect USB.
  3. Hold PS + Create until the light bar flashes.
  4. Select the DualSense controller under available Bluetooth devices.
  5. If it pairs but does not connect, press and release the PS button.

Apple officially supports the PS5 DualSense on iPhone. If you connect it directly with a USB cable that supports both charging and data, Apple says it can automatically pair and connect to the device.

iPhone operating-system support is not the same as universal game support. The game must support controllers. PS Remote Play is a separate application and also requires a compatible PS4 or PS5 setup, current system software and a suitable network connection.

  • Multi-device connectivity - Connect using a USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth technology and easily play on more devices including Windows PC and Mac computers.
  • Elevate PC gaming with advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in a range of blockbuster PC titles.

Pair the DualSense with an Android phone

  1. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The exact menu name varies by manufacturer and Android skin.
  2. Turn off the controller and disconnect USB.
  3. Hold PS + Create until the light bar flashes.
  4. Select the DualSense from the available devices list.
  5. Open a controller-compatible game and check its input settings.

There is no single Android Bluetooth path that applies identically to Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus and every other manufacturer. Look for Bluetooth or connected-device settings rather than following a menu path intended for a different phone.

Android support has important limitations. Sony says adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, the built-in microphone, the built-in speaker and the headset jack are not compatible with Android-based mobile devices. A phone or game may offer limited alternative behavior, but successful Bluetooth pairing should not be treated as proof that those DualSense features will work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Switch between registered devices

  1. Turn on the device you want to use. If other nearby devices keep reconnecting, temporarily disable their Bluetooth.
  2. Hold PS + the face button assigned to that device for about three seconds.
  3. Release when the light bar and player indicator blink.
  4. Wait for the light bar to settle and the target device to reconnect.

The player indicators identify the selected slot:

  • Slot 1: one player-indicator light.
  • Slot 2: two lights.
  • Slot 3: three lights.
  • Slot 4: four lights.

You can switch while the controller is powered on or off. If it is off, pressing PS alone reconnects to the last-connected device. When a PS5 is involved, use the face-button shortcut rather than relying on the device’s Bluetooth menu; Sony notes that switching from a Mac or mobile device may not work from that menu while the PS5 is connected.

Which DualSense features work on each platform?

Compatibility depends on the operating system, connection type and individual game. The table describes Sony’s documented support rather than a guarantee for every title.

Feature PS5 Windows PC iPhone/iOS Android
Bluetooth pairing Yes Yes Yes Yes on supported versions and devices
USB connection Yes Yes Yes with suitable cable and device support Device-dependent
Basic controls Supported games Compatible games Compatible games Compatible games
Adaptive triggers Supported games Supported games; title-dependent Game/device-dependent Not compatible according to Sony
Haptic feedback Supported games May require USB Not compatible according to Sony’s current guide Not compatible according to Sony’s current guide
Built-in microphone and speaker Supported PS5 features Supported games Not compatible according to Sony Not compatible according to Sony
Headset jack Yes Requires a wired USB connection Not supported on mobile Not supported on mobile

For the most reliable advanced features on PC, use USB and confirm that the specific game supports them. On mobile, expect basic controller input rather than the full PS5 feature set.

Bluetooth versus USB

Bluetooth is best when

  • You want wireless play.
  • You regularly switch among registered devices.
  • You are playing on a phone or tablet.
  • Your game supports the controller without requiring wired features.

USB is best when

  • You need to update firmware.
  • You are reconnecting the controller to a PS5.
  • Bluetooth is unavailable or unreliable.
  • A PC game requires wired haptics or more complete DualSense support.

USB requires a data-capable cable, and it prevents the same quick wireless slot-switching experience while connected. Sony also says a controller connected by USB cannot wirelessly pair or switch to another PS5 until the cable is disconnected.

Troubleshooting

The controller does not appear in Bluetooth

  1. Confirm that the player indicator is off.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable.
  3. Hold Create + PS for at least three seconds to enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
  4. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the target device.
  5. Temporarily disable Bluetooth on nearby devices that may automatically reclaim the controller.
  6. Charge the controller.
  7. Check that the target operating system meets Sony’s listed baseline.

It pairs, but the game does nothing

Bluetooth pairing and game recognition are separate. The game may support only generic XInput controllers, require controller support to be enabled, display Xbox prompts, need Steam Input or another mapping layer, or lack DualSense-specific features. Test a known controller-compatible game and inspect its input settings before deleting the Bluetooth pairing.

It keeps reconnecting to the wrong device

Turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices temporarily, then use the intended PS + face button slot shortcut. Pressing PS while the controller is off connects it to the last-used device, which may not be the one you want.

The PS5 will not reconnect

Turn on the PS5, connect the controller with a compatible USB data cable and press PS. After it reconnects, remove the cable if you want wireless play. A charge-only cable may power the controller without completing this pairing process.

The USB cable charges but does not pair or update

Replace it with a cable explicitly described as supporting data, sync or charging and data. A cable can deliver power while lacking the data lines needed for firmware updates, wired pairing and communication with the PS5 or PC.

All four slots are occupied

Registering another device may replace the least recently connected slot, according to Sony. There is no reason to pair a fifth device just to test it if preserving your current four registrations is important.

The controller is stuck or no device will pair

Reset it using Sony’s hardware reset procedure:

  1. Turn off the PS5.
  2. Disconnect the controller from USB.
  3. Find the small reset hole beside the Sony logo on the back of the controller.
  4. Press the reset button with a pin for at least five seconds.
  5. Connect the controller to the PS5 with the official USB cable.
  6. Press PS to pair it again.

Resetting is a recovery step, not the normal way to switch among registered devices. See Sony’s DualSense troubleshooting instructions if the reset does not resolve the problem.
