Yes, you can play Genshin Impact on a Mac—but there is still no conventional native macOS version of the Windows PC client in the official listings reviewed. Your practical options are cloud gaming, PlayCover on Apple-silicon Macs, and CrossOver for a local Windows-compatible installation.
For an Intel Mac, start with cloud gaming. For an M1, M2, or newer Apple-silicon Mac, use PlayCover if you want local play and do not mind maintenance; choose cloud gaming if convenience matters more. Use CrossOver when you specifically want the Windows build.
Which method should you use?
| Method | Apple silicon | Intel | Runs locally? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GeForce NOW or another cloud service | Yes | Yes, on supported Macs | No | The easiest setup and older Macs |
| PlayCover | Yes, M1 or newer | No | Yes | Local play on Apple-silicon Macs |
| CrossOver | Yes | Yes | Yes | The Windows PC build |
Cloud gaming has the broadest hardware support but depends heavily on your internet connection. PlayCover avoids streaming latency but runs the iOS/iPadOS build and can require troubleshooting after updates. CrossOver runs locally and supports both processor families, but compatibility is version-sensitive.
Is Genshin Impact officially available for Mac?
The standard App Store listing identifies Genshin Impact as an iPhone and iPad app, not a conventional native macOS PC client. The separate Genshin Impact · Cloud listing is a cloud-streaming service, not a native Mac game client.

That does not mean the game cannot be played on a Mac. It means you need to stream it, run the mobile version through a compatibility wrapper, or run the Windows version through compatibility software. These methods can differ in controls, graphics options, update timing, and reliability.
Check your Mac before installing anything
- Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
- Check whether the processor is listed as Apple M1, M2, or newer, or as Intel.
- Check your macOS version. PlayCover requires macOS 12 or later; GeForce NOW requires macOS 10.15 or later according to NVIDIA’s requirements.
- For local installations, check available storage and leave room for future patches.
- Have your HoYoverse account credentials and preferred keyboard, mouse, or controller ready.
Do not use the App Store’s listed download size as the final storage requirement for a Mac installation. The mobile app size, installed files, updates, and Windows compatibility files are different things.
1. Cloud gaming: the easiest option
Cloud gaming is the best starting point for most Intel owners, older MacBooks, and anyone who does not want to manage IPA files or compatibility layers. The game is rendered on a remote server and streamed to your Mac, so local graphics hardware matters much less.
GeForce NOW setup
- Download the macOS client from NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW download page, or use a supported browser.
- Install and open GeForce NOW.
- Sign in or create an NVIDIA account.
- Search for Genshin Impact.
- If it appears in your current regional catalog, select it and follow the sign-in prompts.
- Sign in with the same HoYoverse account you use on your other devices.
Do not buy a subscription before checking that the game actually appears for your account and region. Catalog availability, queues, session limits, and features can change.

NVIDIA lists Macs introduced in 2009 or later and macOS 10.15 or later among its requirements. It recommends wired Ethernet or 5GHz Wi-Fi, at least 15 Mbps for HD streaming at up to 60 fps, 25 Mbps for Full HD at 60 fps, and latency below 80 ms to a data center. Meeting the bandwidth target does not guarantee a good experience if routing or Wi-Fi interference causes high latency.
Official Genshin Cloud
Genshin Impact · Cloud is the first-party alternative where available. Its App Store listing shows cloud-specific purchases, including Cloud Pass and Cloud Coins. Availability and pricing can vary by country, and the listing’s compatibility information describes iPhone/iPad requirements, so verify whether your particular Mac can install it.
Cloud-gaming problems
- The game does not appear: check the current catalog and your region, then investigate the official Genshin Cloud service or another supported provider.
- The image is blurry or stutters: use Ethernet or 5GHz Wi-Fi, stop downloads and video streams, move closer to the router, or lower streaming quality.
- You encounter queues or session limits: test the free tier if offered. Consider paying only after confirming acceptable latency and availability.
- Input feels delayed: reduce network congestion and select the nearest available data center. Streaming always adds a network-dependent input path.
2. PlayCover: local play on M1, M2, and newer Macs
PlayCover runs compatible iOS/iPadOS apps on Apple-silicon Macs. Its documentation states that it requires an M1 chip or newer and macOS 12 or later; Intel Macs are not supported. It is the strongest option for an Apple-silicon owner who wants local rendering, keyboard and mouse mapping, and no cloud queue.
How to install PlayCover
- Confirm that your Mac has an M1 or newer chip and macOS 12 or later.
- Download PlayCover through its official documentation or project repository.
- Move PlayCover into the
/Applicationsfolder. - Open it and approve macOS’s security prompt if shown.
- Import a compatible, lawfully acquired iOS/iPadOS game package.
- Install or select an appropriate keymap.
- Launch the game, sign in to your existing HoYoverse account, and test movement, camera, combat, menus, and controller input.
The project also documents this Homebrew route:
brew tap PlayCover/playcover
brew install --cask playcover-community
Do not download IPA files from unverified repositories or enter HoYoverse credentials into unofficial launchers. IPA availability, signing requirements, and compatibility can change, and this guide does not recommend piracy or unsafe account practices.

What to expect from PlayCover
PlayCover wraps the mobile build and provides custom touch-to-keyboard mapping, including WASD and mouse controls. It is not an official macOS port, and the iOS/iPadOS build may not expose exactly the same settings or behavior as the Windows, PlayStation, or console versions.
The main advantages are local rendering, no streaming latency, no cloud queue, and free/open-source wrapper software. The drawbacks are technical installation, package management, possible keymap changes, and compatibility problems after macOS, PlayCover, or game updates.
PlayCover troubleshooting
- PlayCover will not open: confirm it is inside
/Applications, open it through Finder, and approve the security prompt. Use official stable or nightly releases only; nightly builds are experimental. - The game crashes after an update: check the current PlayCover documentation and release notes, preserve the last working installation, and back up keymaps before importing a new package.
- Controls are missing: select the correct keymap, ensure the game window has focus, then rebind movement, camera, attack, interaction, and menus.
- The game performs poorly: lower graphics settings, close background apps, keep a MacBook connected to power, and watch for thermal throttling.
3. CrossOver: run the Windows build locally
CrossOver uses Wine-based compatibility technology rather than a full virtual machine. It is the most relevant local option if you specifically want the Windows version of Genshin Impact. CodeWeavers maintains a version-based compatibility listing for the game and offers a 14-day fully functional trial.
CrossOver supports Intel and Apple-silicon Macs, but that does not guarantee that every game version works. The current game, CrossOver release, macOS version, graphics hardware, and launcher behavior all matter.

How to try CrossOver
- Download CrossOver from CodeWeavers and install it.
- Start the 14-day trial.
- Search CrossOver’s compatibility database for Genshin Impact.
- Use the listed installer or follow the current manual-installation instructions.
- Install the official Windows launcher or installer into the CrossOver bottle.
- Launch the game from that bottle and sign in with your HoYoverse account.
- Test graphics, input, launcher updates, and performance before purchasing.
CrossOver is a better value when you also need to run other Windows applications. If Genshin Impact is your only goal, use the trial first because compatibility can regress after a game or CrossOver update.
CrossOver troubleshooting
- The installer will not start: check the current CodeWeavers compatibility page instead of copying instructions for an older CrossOver release. Try the documented manual-installation path.
- The game stopped working after an update: check the compatibility listing, change one variable at a time, and back up the existing bottle before experimenting.
- Performance is poor: lower resolution and graphics settings, close background apps, connect a MacBook to power, and check for thermal throttling.
- Nothing restores compatibility: use cloud gaming as the fallback rather than assuming additional wrapper tweaks will solve every update regression.
Which option is best for your Mac?
- Old or low-storage Intel Mac: choose cloud gaming first.
- Intel Mac with poor internet: test CrossOver, provided the current compatibility listing supports your combination. Boot Camp may be a fallback on some Intel models, but requires model-specific checks, extra storage, Windows setup, and reboots.
- M1 or M2 MacBook Air/Pro: choose PlayCover for local play; choose cloud gaming for the least maintenance.
- Apple silicon or Intel user who specifically wants the Windows build: try CrossOver before paying.
- No appetite for troubleshooting: use a cloud service.
- Hotel, school, or congested Wi-Fi: avoid assuming cloud gaming will be reliable; local PlayCover or CrossOver is preferable on compatible hardware.
What happens when a new Genshin update arrives?
Cloud services usually handle the remote installation, but catalog availability, queues, and access rules can still change. PlayCover may require a new compatible package, keymap adjustments, or a PlayCover update. CrossOver may require a new runtime or may temporarily stop working until CodeWeavers updates its compatibility guidance.
Before major updates, back up PlayCover keymaps and local settings, preserve a working CrossOver bottle, and avoid updating the game, macOS, and compatibility software simultaneously. If a local method breaks, cloud gaming is the quickest practical fallback.
Other alternatives
Boot Camp is relevant only to Intel Macs and may offer a more conventional Windows environment, but support depends on the exact Mac model and macOS version. It also requires additional storage, Windows installation or activation, and rebooting.
Virtual machines can run Windows software but may offer weaker gaming graphics compatibility. Whisky and other GPTK/Wine wrappers can be useful experimental options, yet their support is often less predictable than the three methods above. A remotely accessed Windows PC is another possibility if you already own one, but it adds network and setup complexity.
