Steam’s current platform-wide status cannot be confirmed from a static article alone. Check SteamStat.us and Downdetector before changing anything on your PC. Steam’s routine maintenance usually takes place on Tuesdays, but a Store, Community, login, download, or individual-game failure does not necessarily mean all of Steam is offline.
Next expected routine maintenance: Tuesday, September 15, 2026, based on Steam’s usual Tuesday pattern. The commonly reported window is approximately 1–3 p.m. Pacific—2–4 p.m. Mountain, 3–5 p.m. Central, and 4–6 p.m. Eastern. This is an expectation, not a guaranteed Valve appointment.

How to tell whether Steam is down
Do not treat Steam as a simple up-or-down service. Different parts of the platform can fail independently:
- Store: game pages, browsing, purchases, and checkout.
- Community: profiles, forums, Workshop, reviews, friends, and chat.
- Client and login: authentication and account connectivity.
- Downloads: content servers, updates, and regional delivery.
- Cloud: save synchronization.
- Game services: matchmaking, inventory, or title-specific game coordinators.
A Store outage does not necessarily stop downloads or already-authenticated games. A Community outage does not prove that matchmaking is unavailable. Conversely, Steam can appear healthy while one game’s own servers are offline.

Use three checks before calling it a Steam-wide outage
- Open SteamStat.us and check the Store, Community, Web API, Connection Managers, and any relevant game-coordinator indicators. It is a useful unofficial monitor, not a Valve status page.
- Compare it with Downdetector’s Steam page. A sharp, recent rise in reports—especially across login, purchases, downloads, and gameplay—supports an outage diagnosis, but user reports do not prove the cause.
- Test more than one surface: the Steam client, the Store website, the Community website, and another unrelated website. Ask whether friends or users in the same region see the same failure.
Steam-wide problems are more likely when several major services are degraded, reports are rising across regions, and both the client and websites fail. A local or game-specific problem is more likely when status monitors are normal, only one person or region is affected, only one title fails, or another network fixes the issue.
When is the next Steam maintenance?
Steam commonly performs routine maintenance on Tuesdays. Based on that recurring pattern, the next expected window after Monday, September 14, 2026, is Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Public guidance is approximate rather than an official fixed timetable. A Team17 support notice describes Tuesday maintenance as typically beginning between 1 and 3 p.m. Pacific Time and lasting about 30 minutes. SteamDB likewise describes regular Tuesday global maintenance without promising a precise start time.

Routine maintenance often clears within roughly 15–30 minutes, but Valve does not guarantee a fixed duration. Wait at least 30 minutes before treating a Tuesday interruption as an extended incident. Maintenance can be partial, regional, barely noticeable, delayed, or longer than expected.

Does Steam go down every Tuesday?
No. Tuesday is the usual maintenance day, not a promise that every Steam user will lose access every week. Some maintenance affects only selected services, while some users notice nothing.
A Tuesday failure is also not automatically scheduled maintenance. Steam can have unscheduled interruptions on other days. For example, a July 9, 2026 incident affected the Store and Community while matchmaking and other services continued operating, illustrating why “Steam is down” can be an incomplete description. What to do when status pages show no broad outage
- Restart the Steam client.
- Check your internet connection and restart the router or modem.
- Temporarily test a phone hotspot or another network. If that works, the problem is more likely your home network or ISP.
- Check whether a firewall, antivirus product, VPN, or DNS configuration is interfering. Steam Support notes that sign-in failures can result from maintenance, a local network, or an ISP issue.
- For slow downloads, open Steam → Settings → Downloads → Download Region, select a nearby alternative region, and retry. Regional content-server performance can vary with distance, infrastructure, and traffic.
Do not reinstall Steam, delete configuration files, or repeatedly change DNS settings while several independent indicators show a platform-side outage. Those steps will not repair a problem at Valve’s end.
Why one game may be offline when Steam is working
Many games use servers operated by their developer or publisher rather than by Valve. Steam may handle authentication, downloads, or platform features while the game’s multiplayer servers handle sessions, matchmaking, and gameplay.

Can you play Steam games while Steam is down?
Sometimes. In the Steam client, use Steam → Go Offline where the option is available. This can allow some installed single-player games to launch without a working Steam connection.
Offline mode is not universal. It may fail when a game requires online authentication, a separate launcher, cloud access, DRM checks, multiplayer, or a game-specific server. Cloud synchronization will not work normally while offline, so be careful when switching between devices or save files.
When is it more than routine maintenance?
Suspect an extended or unscheduled incident when the problem occurs outside the normal Tuesday period, lasts substantially longer than the usual brief interruption, affects multiple major services, produces a large recent report spike, or is confirmed by reliable incident reporting.

Steam’s status can also degrade during major sales, large launches, patches, or traffic surges. Regional content-server trouble may produce slow downloads without a global outage.
