For most Squad communities, a managed game-server host is the safer choice than a bargain VPS. Managed providers simplify deployment, updates, configuration, mod management, backups, and support. A VPS can offer more control and better infrastructure value, but you must install and administer Squad yourself.
This April 2026 comparison focuses on six specialist providers: Nitrado, GPORTAL, Host Havoc, GTXGaming, PingPerfect, and Streamline Servers. Features, regions, prices, and refund terms can change, so confirm the live Squad product page before paying.
Quick verdict
- Best for beginners: Nitrado, if its current Squad plan covers your region and slot requirement.
- Best polished managed experience: GPORTAL, subject to regional and mod-support availability.
- Best for specialist support: Host Havoc.
- Best for advanced configuration: GTXGaming.
- Best flexible specialist alternative: PingPerfect.
- Best additional managed-host option: Streamline Servers.
These are use-case recommendations, not claims of independently tested performance. A provider should not be called the fastest or best-performing without reproducible tests or clear, comparable hardware information.
Comparison table
| Provider | Best suited to | Hosting type | Important question before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nitrado | Beginners and communities wanting a managed panel | Managed game hosting | Does the current plan include your region, slot count, backups, and required mod tools? |
| GPORTAL | Mainstream managed hosting with regional choice | Managed game hosting | Is Squad available in the required location, and are the needed mods supported? |
| Host Havoc | Communities prioritizing game-focused support | Managed game hosting | What resource allocation, RCON/file access, migration, and refund terms apply? |
| GTXGaming | Administrators needing deeper configuration | Managed game hosting | How are mods, scheduled tasks, backups, and renewals handled? |
| PingPerfect | Communities comparing broad specialist support | Managed game hosting | Are Squad resources, locations, transfer options, and support scope documented? |
| Streamline Servers | Communities seeking another specialist host | Managed game hosting | Does the live product provide the required slots, region, mod workflow, and recovery tools? |
Do not compare these directly with generic VPS entry prices. A $2–$6 VPS offer may include too few resources for a populated Squad server and may exclude installation, licensing help, backups, or game-specific support.

1. Nitrado: best for easy administration
Nitrado is a natural candidate for communities that want a conventional managed game-server workflow rather than root access. Its likely advantages are a web interface, game-server provisioning, routine restart and configuration controls, and a broader game-hosting ecosystem.
Choose it when: several administrators need straightforward server management and you want to avoid maintaining a Linux installation.
Check first: current Squad availability, slot tiers, data-center locations, mod and configuration support, backup retention, cancellation rules, and whether any Offworld licensing step remains your responsibility.
Avoid it when: you need root access, custom server-side software, or an unusual infrastructure layout.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2. GPORTAL: best for a polished managed experience
GPORTAL is worth considering if you want a mainstream managed host with a polished control-panel experience and multiple regional options. It may suit groups that value quick provisioning and a familiar game-hosting interface.
Choose it when: the required Squad region is available and the panel exposes the configuration, restart, update, and mod controls your administrators actually need.
Check first: whether the advertised price is monthly or prepaid, whether it is introductory, what DDoS protection and backups include, and whether your preferred mods and custom maps are supported.
Avoid it when: you require operating-system-level control or the preferred region is unavailable.

3. Host Havoc: best for game-focused support
Host Havoc is a specialist option for communities that want support centered on game-server administration rather than a general cloud machine. Its suitability depends on the current Squad plan, the quality of its configuration and file-access tools, and the support channels available for your location.
Choose it when: your clan needs help with practical server administration, RCON or file access, and moving an established community configuration.
Check first: CPU allocation, plan sizes, mod support, migration assistance, response-time commitments, restoration options, and the separate refund policy for game servers.
Avoid it when: the server is only one of several unrelated services you want to run under a general-purpose VPS.

4. GTXGaming: best for configuration depth
GTXGaming is the stronger candidate for an administrator who wants more control over scheduled tasks, configuration files, admin tools, and custom content. That flexibility can be valuable for a modded or event-focused community, but it also creates more decisions to manage.
Choose it when: you need detailed configuration and are comfortable troubleshooting mods, updates, rotations, and server administration.
Check first: the exact Squad feature list, mod installation and update process, rollback capability, backup retention, locations, and renewal price.
Avoid it when: your priority is the simplest possible plug-and-play setup and you will not use the additional controls.

6. Streamline Servers: another specialist managed option
Streamline Servers is a sensible sixth comparison point for communities seeking managed hosting rather than a self-administered VPS. It should be evaluated on the same terms as the other providers, not awarded a place solely because it supports many games.
Choose it when: it offers your required region, slot tier, mod workflow, and recovery features at a transparent total cost.
Check first: automated-update behavior, DDoS coverage, RCON and file access, backup policy, renewal pricing, and cancellation conditions.
Avoid it when: the preferred location or mod setup is unavailable, or the provider cannot clearly explain recovery after a failed update.

Check Streamline Servers’ current availability
How many Squad slots do you need?
- 20–40 slots: suitable for a small private group or testing community.
- 50–80 slots: a practical range for a growing community.
- 80–100 slots: appropriate for a public community, provided the host’s current limits and the game’s rules allow it.
- Large or heavily modded communities: consider a higher-resource plan or a dedicated machine.
Squad is built around large-scale combined-arms battles, vehicles, base building, and positional voice communication. Its official store describes 100-player, 50-versus-50 matches, but a provider’s “100 slots” label is only a capacity setting—not proof of stable performance at that population. CPU generation, sustained single-thread performance, shared-resource policies, map, game mode, mods, tick rate, and network conditions all matter. See Offworld Industries’ game information and the official Squad store page.
What hardware matters most?
- CPU: prioritize strong, sustained single-thread performance and ask whether cores are dedicated or shared.
- Resource guarantees: “vCPU” and “unlimited” labels do not explain CPU priority or fair-use limits.
- Network: choose a well-connected location near most players.
- Storage: SSD or NVMe storage helps with installation, updates, logs, and mod files.
- RAM: buy enough for the selected population and mod set, but do not treat unsupported generic minimums as official requirements.
- Recovery: independent backups and a tested restore path are more valuable than a headline storage number.
Some hosting comparisons suggest 16 GB or more for medium-to-large servers and up to 32 GB for full 100-player setups, but those figures should be treated as planning estimates requiring validation, not official Squad specifications. Offworld’s server-license form asks applicants for CPU, memory, disk, network speed, location, slots, host, and administrator availability—useful evidence that all of these operational details matter. See the official licensing form.
Managed Squad hosting versus a VPS
| Managed game host | Self-managed VPS | |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Usually template-based and faster | Manual installation and configuration |
| Control | Panel-level controls | Root access and operating-system flexibility |
| Maintenance | Provider may handle platform tasks and updates | You handle updates, security, monitoring, and recovery |
| Support | May include game-specific assistance | Usually infrastructure support only |
| Additional services | Often limited to the game server | Can also host bots, websites, databases, or monitoring |
| Cost comparison | Usually priced by slots or game-server resources | Low entry prices can hide unsuitable CPU, RAM, and administration costs |
Choose a VPS only if you are comfortable installing Squad, securing the machine, configuring firewalls, monitoring crashes, handling mods and updates, arranging backups, and dealing with licensing questions. Generic providers such as Kamatera, VPSServer, Hostinger, IONOS, and InterServer may be viable infrastructure choices, but their low advertised entry prices are not equivalent to a managed 80- or 100-slot Squad server.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Licensing and launch checklist
Do not assume that deployment means the server is immediately approved for public operation. Offworld Industries’ application requests the game, provider, server name and IP, languages, player slots, hardware profile, location, community details, website or Discord, administrator contacts and Steam IDs, and approximate admin availability.
- Choose a location based on where players live, not just price.
- Select the intended slot count and ask for the provider’s resource allocation.
- Confirm that the host supports the current Squad release and your required mods.
- Deploy the server and record its IP, hardware details, and configuration.
- Complete any required Offworld licensing or approval process.
- Set the server name, rules, administrators, maps, and rotations.
- Install and test mods privately before opening to the public.
- Configure scheduled restarts, updates, backups, and access controls.
- Test RCON, logs, restore procedures, and mod rollback.
- Open the server publicly only after a complete private test.
Pricing, billing, and contract checks
Label every price with its currency, billing term, introductory or renewal status, taxes, slot count, included storage and backups, setup fees, extra IP costs, premium-location charges, and cancellation or refund conditions. Prepaid game-server refunds may differ from a provider’s VPS or web-hosting policy.
Generic comparison pages have shown entry prices around $2–$6 per month for VPS plans, including figures such as $2 for IONOS, $3 for InterServer, $2.99 for Ultahost, $4 for Kamatera and VPSServer, and $5.99 for Hostinger. These are not validated prices for a usable managed Squad server. Treat them as infrastructure price signals only, not as like-for-like recommendations.
Backups, mods, and common failure points
- Mod-update failure: verify that you can inspect logs, access files, restore a previous configuration, and obtain provider assistance.
- Game update disruption: ask whether updates are automatic, scheduled, optional, delayed, or reversible.
- Shared CPU: identical vCPU counts can perform differently; ask about CPU model, priority, dedicated cores, and fair-use limits.
- Wrong region: a cheap server on another continent may provide worse latency than a costlier local plan.
- Licensing delay: a technically deployed server may still need approval or information supplied by the community.
- Backup ambiguity: confirm frequency, retention, restore scope, download access, and whether backups are isolated from the live server.
- Generic support: infrastructure support does not necessarily include Squad configuration, RCON, mods, or licensing.
Keep downloadable copies of important configuration files, ban lists, map rotations, and community data. A provider’s internal backup is not the same as a backup you control.
How to choose between the six
| Criterion | Suggested weight |
|---|---|
| Squad support and deployment quality | 20% |
| CPU and resource transparency | 20% |
| Network quality and locations | 15% |
| Control panel and administration | 15% |
| Mods and customization | 10% |
| Backups and recovery | 10% |
| Support quality | 5% |
| Price and billing transparency | 5% |
Score the exact plan and region you would buy. Do not substitute a general hosting-site review score for Squad-specific evidence, and do not treat a provider’s “100-player” setting as a performance guarantee.

Squad is not Squad 44
Confirm the game name before ordering. Squad 44 is a separate Offworld Industries game with its own World War II setting and hosting requirements. A host listing one title does not automatically support the other.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1 GB of RAM enough for a Squad server?
Do not choose a 1 GB plan for a public Squad server without current, controlled evidence that it supports your intended population and mod set. Very small VPS plans are better treated as experiments than dependable community infrastructure.
Can I host Squad on a VPS?
Yes, but a VPS is self-managed unless the provider explicitly offers game-server administration. You are responsible for installation, security, updates, monitoring, backups, mods, and potentially licensing-related steps.
Do I need a dedicated IP?
Ask the provider whether the plan includes a stable public IP and whether it is required for your intended server listing, administration, licensing, or community tooling. Do not assume an extra IP is included.
Do I need Offworld approval or licensing?
Check the current process with Offworld Industries. The application requests server, hardware, location, slot, community, and administrator information. The host may or may not complete this process for you.
Can I install Squad mods?
Only if the provider supports the required Workshop content, custom maps, files, and server-side tools. Confirm update, rollback, storage, and support procedures before committing to a mod-heavy setup.
Which region should I choose?
Choose the data center closest to the majority of players, then compare network quality and resource guarantees. A low price in a distant continent can produce a worse experience.
Can I change the player-slot limit later?
Usually this depends on the provider’s plan structure. Confirm whether slots can be increased or reduced immediately, whether configuration changes are included, and whether billing is prorated.
Are backups included?
Never infer this from a generic backup badge. Confirm frequency, retention, restore scope, download access, and whether restoring a backup can preserve unrelated files.
Can I migrate my server to another host?
Migration is easiest when you can download configuration, ban lists, rotations, mod data, and other community files. Ask whether the host provides file or SFTP access and whether it assists with transfers.
Is monthly billing better than prepaid hosting?
Monthly billing generally reduces commitment and makes testing easier, while prepaid plans may have different pricing or refund restrictions. Compare renewal price, refund window, used service time, and cancellation rules.
