Evil Holiday crashes on PC for different reasons, so there is no single guaranteed fix. Start with the low-risk checks below: restart Windows, close overlays, verify the Steam installation, and update or roll back your graphics driver. If the crash began after changing resolution or fullscreen settings, reset the game’s local configuration without deleting your saves.
This guide covers the Steam version on Windows first, with a separate Steam Deck note. The game was released by REVVALUTION Studio on November 25, 2024, and its listed requirements are modest, but meeting them does not guarantee stable performance. Check the current Steam listing.
First, identify when the crash happens
The timing usually points toward the right troubleshooting branch:
- Immediately after clicking Play: check files, runtimes, permissions, drivers, and configuration.
- After the splash screen or before the menu: suspect corrupted settings, graphics initialization, overlays, or missing dependencies.
- Black screen followed by desktop exit: test windowed mode, a driver change, and disabled overlays.
- Freeze during loading: check disk activity and free space before force-closing the game.
- Crash after 10–15 minutes: investigate temperatures, unstable overclocks, background tools, and graphics settings.
- Crash in one room, cutscene, or interaction: this may be a damaged save or a game-specific bug rather than a general PC problem.
- Stutter, missing textures, or audio glitches first: check drivers, storage, VRAM pressure, and overlays.
After each change, reproduce the same crash rather than testing randomly. That makes it easier to identify what actually helped.

Check the official requirements
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10 listed by Steam | 64-bit Windows |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 | Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-9590 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| GPU | GTX 760 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB | GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 480 with 3 GB VRAM |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Storage | 11 GB | 11 GB |
These are the requirements shown on Steam, whose operating-system list includes older Windows versions. Do not interpret that as a guarantee of support for every current Windows build. Minimum specifications also do not guarantee smooth or crash-free play.
Laptop users should confirm that Steam is using the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. Low free disk space can also cause update, shader-cache, paging, or loading problems even when the game itself occupies about 11 GB.
1. Restart and perform a clean test
Exit the game, quit Steam completely, restart Windows, then launch only Steam and Evil Holiday. Close unnecessary browsers, recording software, monitoring tools, RGB utilities, and cloud-sync applications.
This is a diagnostic step, not a permanent fix. If the crash disappears, re-enable background programs one at a time to find the conflict. If it returns at exactly the same point, continue with the repairs below.

2. Verify the Steam files
Use Steam’s built-in repair before reinstalling:
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Evil Holiday and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Allow Steam to download any replacements.
- Restart Steam and test the original crash again.
Verification can repair files damaged by an interrupted update, disk error, antivirus quarantine, or a moved installation. It does not necessarily reset local settings, repair a graphics driver, or fix a bug in the current game build. A message that files were reacquired is not proof by itself that the crash is solved.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
3. Disable overlays and injected software
Temporarily disable these individually:
- Steam Overlay
- Discord Overlay
- NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience overlay
- AMD Adrenalin overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- OBS and other capture tools
- MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner
- RGB, motherboard, and hardware-control utilities
- Mods or unofficial injectors
For Steam, right-click the game in Library, choose Properties, and turn off the Steam Overlay option. Test the game before restoring other tools. There is no developer-confirmed incompatibility list for Evil Holiday; these are common conflict candidates, not proven causes for every system.
4. Update or roll back the graphics driver
Install the current stable driver from the correct vendor:
Restart Windows after changing the driver and test with overlays disabled. If the crashes began immediately after a driver update, use the vendor’s rollback or clean-install option and test the previous known-stable driver. No specific driver version has been verified as an Evil Holiday fix.

5. Reset local configuration safely
A bad resolution, fullscreen mode, monitor change, or graphics setting can prevent a game from reaching its menu. Reset settings without immediately deleting user data:

- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
- Close Evil Holiday and exit Steam.
- Back up possible saves and configuration folders first.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%LOCALAPPDATA%, and press Enter. - Look for a folder named for Evil Holiday, REVVALUTION Studio, or a related developer/publisher folder.
- Rename the suspected folder, for example to
EvilHoliday_Backup. - Check
Documentsand%APPDATA%as possible alternative locations. - Relaunch the game and test.
The exact folder name and location are not confirmed for every installation. Rename rather than delete, because saves may share a folder with settings. If Steam Cloud is enabled, a damaged setting or save could be synchronized back after the reset.
6. Lower graphics settings if the menu opens
Apply changes in a controlled order:
- Change exclusive fullscreen to borderless or windowed mode.
- Cap the frame rate at 60 FPS.
- Lower shadows, volumetrics, reflections, and ambient occlusion.
- Reduce texture quality if VRAM is limited.
- Disable ray tracing, frame generation, or advanced upscaling if those options are present.
- Test at 1920×1080 or a lower resolution.
- Restart the game after applying changes.
Not every setting above is confirmed to exist in Evil Holiday; these are general stability tests. If the game is installed on a slow or failing HDD, long asset-loading pauses can resemble a freeze. Check disk activity before terminating it.

7. Repair Windows runtimes when symptoms fit
Install or repair Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ packages when you see a missing-DLL message, an immediate startup failure, or a first-run prerequisite installation that was interrupted. Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page, not a third-party DLL download site. Installing the supported x64 and x86 packages where appropriate, then restarting Windows, is a reasonable dependency check.
The Steam listing does not name a specific Visual C++ package for this game, so this is not a confirmed Evil Holiday-specific requirement and is not necessary for every crash.
8. Test launch options cautiously
If the game cannot reach the menu, you can test one launch argument at a time. In Steam, open the game’s Properties and enter a single option in Launch Options:
Rank #4
- Supported Multi-Platform:Switch/Switch 2 (NO support wake-up function)/iOS/Android/Windows PC (Notice:Not compatible with Xbox, PlayStation or GeForce Now, For game platforms not mentioned, please consult customer service before buying)
- Connection modes:Wired/Bluetooth/Wireless Dongle(Connect to PC via Bluetooth : Select iOS (phone) mode, but it's not recommended; Dongle is more stable)
- 【Innovative Intelligent Interactive Screen】Manba One V2 wireless game controllers create a new era of controller screens; Equipped with a 2-inch display, no App & software needed, you can set the pc controller directly through the screen visualization, More convenient operation
- 【Micro Switch Button】Manba One wireless controller has Micro Switch Button and ALPS Bumper; The 6-axis gyroscope function makes switch games more immersive
- 【Customize Your Own Controller】The intelligent interactive screen allows you to easily set vibrations, buttons, joysticks, lights, etc., without the need for complex key combinations; 4 configurations can be saved to unlock your own gameplay for different games; The 4 back keys support macro definition settings, and you can activate the set character's ultimate move with one click
-windowed
-noborder
-dx11
-dx12
-fullscreen
These arguments are experimental and are not verified official commands for Evil Holiday. The Steam listing specifies DirectX 11, so do not treat -dx12 as a guaranteed fix. Remove an option if it does nothing, and never leave contradictory options such as -windowed and -fullscreen together.
9. Use permissions and compatibility settings only as later tests
These are lower-priority diagnostics:
- Temporarily run the actual game executable as administrator.
- Test Disable fullscreen optimizations in the executable’s compatibility properties.
- Try Windows compatibility mode only if the game fails immediately on a newer Windows installation.
Change one setting at a time and revert it if there is no improvement. Running games permanently as administrator can create permission inconsistencies and is not a universal solution. There is no game-specific confirmation that compatibility mode or administrator privileges cause or fix this game’s crashes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Steam Deck and SteamOS
SteamDB records a successful SteamOS compatibility test for Evil Holiday, while noting that manual graphics configuration may be needed and that some text may be small. That is useful evidence, not a guarantee for every Deck model, Proton version, storage location, or user configuration.
On Deck, verify the installation, remove custom launch options, use the default Proton configuration first, and lower resolution or graphics settings if loading or rendering is unstable. Test from internal storage where possible and allow shader processing to complete. If the game works on Windows but not on Deck, report the Deck model, SteamOS version, Proton version, launch options, and exact crash point.
When the problem is probably a game bug
Suspect a game-wide or game-specific defect when the crash happens in the same cutscene or room for multiple players, began immediately after a build update, occurs on systems above the recommended requirements, or survives verification, driver changes, a fresh configuration, and a clean reinstall.

SteamDB records a November 26, 2024 update described as “Minor fixes,” including a brighter camera, removal of VR support, and other adjustments. That confirms the game received at least one post-release update; it does not prove that a current crash has been fixed.
Check the game’s Steam Discussions, announcements, and current update history before repeating more local repairs. Also distinguish crashes from progression problems: one Steam discussion was resolved when the developer explained that the player needed to use the house’s back entrance to trigger the next event. That was a gameplay progression issue, not a PC crash.
Reinstall only after preserving saves
- Back up saves and configuration folders.
- Uninstall the game through Steam.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall to a local drive with sufficient free space.
- Launch once with overlays, mods, and custom launch options disabled.
- If it works, restore save data only—not the old configuration files.
A reinstall can repair damaged installed files or launcher state, but it will not fix defective hardware, unstable overclocks, incompatible drivers, or a bug in the game itself. Do not blindly delete every folder.
If nothing works, collect useful evidence
Record the exact crash point, any error text, Windows version, GPU and driver version, RAM amount, installation drive, whether the crash followed an update, and whether verification or a configuration reset changed anything. Note whether a new game works when only one save crashes. Check Windows Reliability Monitor or Event Viewer for entries at the crash time, and include any game-generated logs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA useful report looks like this:

This is much more useful to the developer than “the game crashes,” especially when the failure occurs in one repeatable scene.
Quick Recap
Do not do this
- Do not download individual DLL files from random websites.
- Do not delete save folders before making a backup.
- Do not enable several compatibility settings at once.
- Do not assume
-dx11or-dx12is officially supported. - Do not buy a new graphics card before checking files, drivers, temperatures, and system stability.
- Do not treat a progression issue as evidence of a crash.
