They start with reversible checks and postpone resetting or reinstalling until your progress is protected.
The game remains available on Windows through Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store/Xbox. Storefront names vary, so choose the repair steps for the platform where you installed it.
Before troubleshooting: identify the failure
Note exactly where startup stops. A Play button that does nothing usually points to a stuck process, launcher problem, permissions issue, or security software. A logo followed by a crash more often involves graphics drivers, game files, configuration data, or hardware compatibility. A black screen suggests a driver, overlay, display-mode, or multi-monitor conflict. “Syncing data” or login failures usually involve the network, account, or platform services.
Also check Gameloft’s Known Issues page before making disruptive changes.

Check the Windows PC requirements
The current Steam Windows listing specifies Windows 10 or later, a 64-bit processor and operating system, 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, and 10 GB of available storage. Its minimum listed hardware includes an Intel Core i3-3110M or AMD Ryzen 3 3300U and graphics such as Intel HD Graphics 4600, NVIDIA GeForce GT 630, or Radeon HD 6570. Recommended specifications are higher.
Check Windows at Settings > System > About. Use Task Manager > Performance > GPU to identify your graphics adapter. Keep more than 10 GB free for updates, temporary files, and shader caches. Meeting the minimum is not a guarantee: older listed GPUs may differ in their DirectX 12 feature-level support, and drivers or updates can still prevent the game from starting.
1. Restart Windows and close launch conflicts
This is the best first fix when Play produces no window or the launcher briefly says it is preparing the game.
- Exit Steam, Epic Games Launcher, Xbox, and Microsoft Store.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End stuck Asphalt, Steam, Epic, Xbox, or Gaming Services processes.
- Restart Windows, then launch only the relevant storefront and the game.
Temporarily close nonessential overlays and utilities, including Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, screen recorders, RGB tools, hardware monitors, and third-party antivirus game-protection modules. Steam’s official launch guidance also recommends updating Windows and drivers, verifying files, disabling nonessential software, and checking requirements.

If the game works after closing one program, re-enable programs individually to find the conflict. Do not leave antivirus protection disabled permanently.
2. Install Windows updates and update or roll back the GPU driver
Prioritize this step if the game reaches the logo and closes, displays a black screen, or stopped working after a game or graphics-driver update.
- Install pending updates at Settings > Windows Update, then restart.
- Identify your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU.
- Download a stable driver from the manufacturer: NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
- Choose a clean installation option when the installer provides one, restart, and test Asphalt.
On a laptop, assign the game to the high-performance GPU in Settings > System > Display > Graphics, or in your GPU vendor’s control panel. If the failure began immediately after a driver update, rolling back to the previous stable driver is a reasonable diagnostic test. An update is not guaranteed to fix the game; new drivers can also introduce regressions.
3. Verify the installation files
Steam
- Open Steam > Library.
- Right-click Asphalt Legends and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- When the scan finishes, restart Steam and try again.
Steam’s support documentation lists file verification as a standard remedy for games that do not launch. Steam may replace damaged or missing files; this is not the same as deleting your account progress.

Epic Games Store
Open the game’s Manage menu in the Epic Games Launcher and choose Verify, if that control is available in your current launcher version. If Epic itself is malfunctioning, follow its launcher troubleshooting guidance.
Do not apply Steam’s file-verification procedure to a Microsoft Store installation.
4. Repair the Microsoft Store or Xbox installation
Use this branch only for the Microsoft Store/Xbox version. It is particularly relevant when the Xbox app returns to its Play button, the Store says the game is installed but cannot launch it, or the game will not update.
- Sign out of the Microsoft Store and Xbox app.
- Restart Windows and sign back in with the account that owns the installation.
- Update the Microsoft Store and Xbox app.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. For Xbox, Microsoft Store, and Gaming Services, open Advanced options and choose Repair where available.
- Press Win + R, enter
wsreset.exe, and press Enter. - Restart Windows and test the game.
If Repair fails, Reset may be available. Use it cautiously: Reset can remove local app data or settings. Confirm that your game profile is linked to the appropriate account before using Reset or uninstalling.

For Xbox sign-in failures, Gameloft’s Windows/Xbox guidance recommends removing and re-adding the Microsoft account in the Xbox app before contacting Microsoft Support.
5. Test permissions and security software
Try these low-risk checks if Play still produces no response:
- Right-click the game executable or launcher shortcut and select Run as administrator once. Treat this as a test, not a permanent cure.
- Check your antivirus quarantine and protection history for a blocked game file.
- Add the game and its launcher to your antivirus and firewall allowlists instead of disabling protection indefinitely.
- Disconnect unnecessary controllers, capture devices, and virtual-display utilities.
- Launch with overlays and recording tools closed.
If an allowlist entry fixes the problem, keep protection enabled and retain only the necessary exception.

- Close overlays, capture tools, and performance monitors.
- Test with one monitor and standard Windows display scaling.
- Use Alt + Tab, then Win + Shift + Left/Right Arrow to move an off-screen window between monitors.
- Update or conditionally roll back the GPU driver.
- Verify the game files again.
If a local configuration folder is clearly corrupted, rename it rather than deleting it immediately. The game can create a fresh configuration on the next launch, while the renamed folder remains available for recovery. The exact folder location can vary by storefront and Windows installation, so do not delete unidentified folders blindly.
Windows compatibility mode is not a universal fix for a modern DirectX 12 game. Use it only as a targeted diagnostic experiment for a specific older Windows configuration or error.
7. Reinstall safely, then contact Gameloft
Reinstall only after the earlier steps fail. It will not fix a server-side problem, account conflict, incompatible driver, or unsupported hardware, and resetting or removing a local installation can affect settings and local data.
Before uninstalling:
- Confirm that progress is linked to a Gameloft ID or the relevant platform account.
- Record your player ID if it is visible.
- Note whether you use Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store/Xbox, or another PC build.
- Record the exact error, Windows version, GPU, driver version, and date the problem began.
Gameloft recommends restarting, updating the game and operating system, checking requirements, reviewing known issues, and reinstalling when necessary. Linked progress is generally intended to be recoverable, but verify the account connection rather than assuming progress can never be lost. If you still cannot launch the game, use the Gameloft Help Center. Epic also directs Asphalt players to Gameloft support, and Steam provides a technical-support page for the game.

What not to do
- Do not buy in-game content expecting it to repair launch failures; the Steam version is free-to-play with optional in-app purchases.
- Do not rely on registry cleaners or third-party driver-updater utilities.
- Do not make a VPN, permanent administrator mode, or permanently disabled antivirus your first-line fix.
- Do not assume a crash proves that your GPU is unsupported. Compare its capabilities and drivers with the current requirements and test systematically.
