You can create a rapid-fire macro for a Logitech G502 in Logitech G HUB: add a mouse click or keyboard key, insert short delays, choose Repeat While Holding or Toggle, and assign the macro to a remappable G502 button. For repeating macros, use G HUB software mode rather than On-Board Memory mode—Logitech documents that Repeat While Holding, Toggle, and Sequence macros do not work in On-Board Memory mode.

Use rapid-fire automation only where the application or game permits it. Competitive multiplayer games may prohibit macros or treat them as automation.

Before you start

  • Install or open Logitech G HUB.
  • Connect the G502 directly by USB where possible, or connect its wireless receiver directly rather than through an unpowered hub.
  • Confirm that G HUB detects your G502.
  • Choose an auxiliary button, such as a side button or DPI-shift button, that you can hold comfortably.
  • Check the rules for the game or application before using automation.

A rapid-fire macro is a repeating input sequence—for example, left-button down, a short delay, left-button up, another delay, then repeat. It is different from changing DPI, polling rate, click speed, or hardware debounce. Those settings do not themselves generate repeated clicks.

Create the macro in Logitech G HUB

  1. Open Logitech G HUB and select your G502 from the device list.
  2. Open the Assignments or button-customization area. Labels can vary between G502 models and G HUB versions.
  3. Open Macros and select Create New Macro.
  4. Name it clearly, such as Rapid Fire - Hold.
  5. Choose a repeat behavior:
    • No Repeat: runs once.
    • Repeat While Holding: repeats while you hold the assigned button.
    • Toggle: press once to start and press again to stop.
  6. Record or manually add the mouse click or keyboard key you want to repeat.
  7. Add a delay between repetitions.
  8. Save the macro, then drag it onto the desired G502 button.

G HUB’s exact labels and layout may change. Logitech’s current G HUB support documentation is the appropriate reference for the current interface. Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) has older macro instructions, but it is legacy software and should not be treated as the preferred setup for a current G502. Avoid installing LGS and G HUB together unless you are specifically troubleshooting an older configuration.

Recommended event sequence

For a mouse-click macro, use explicit press-and-release events:

Left Button Down
Delay: 30-100 ms
Left Button Up
Delay: 30-100 ms

For a keyboard key, use the equivalent key-down and key-up events. Pairing the events helps prevent the application from interpreting the button as permanently held. If a macro continues after you release the assigned button, rebuild it and check that every down event has a matching up event.

Start with a relatively long delay and reduce it only if necessary. Shorter delays are theoretically faster but can cause dropped inputs, inconsistent behavior, or rejection by the application. Longer delays are easier to test. The game may also enforce its own fire-rate limit or input buffer.

Logitech’s legacy LGS documentation lists 25 ms as a default repetition delay, but that is not a universal G HUB recommendation or a guaranteed optimal setting.

Assign it to a safe G502 button

A side button or DPI-shift button is usually the easiest choice. Avoid replacing the ordinary left-click button while configuring the macro. Doing so can make desktop use difficult, complicate cancellation, and make troubleshooting harder.

If you need to undo the change, return to the button-assignment screen and restore the original function, such as Left Click, Back, Forward, or DPI Shift. For a Toggle macro, press the assigned button again to stop it. If it does not stop, switch profiles or disconnect the mouse, then remove the assignment in G HUB.

Software mode versus On-Board Memory

This is the most important setting for repeating macros.

Use G HUB software mode for Repeat While Holding and Toggle. Logitech states that Repeat While Holding, Toggle, and Sequence macros do not work in On-Board Memory mode. If the macro worked while configuring it but stopped after enabling onboard memory, disable onboard memory and test again.

Software mode

  • Supports the repeating behaviors described above in G HUB.
  • Allows profile-specific assignments and more complex sequences.
  • Requires G HUB to remain available in the background.
  • Requires the correct G HUB profile to be active.

On-Board Memory mode

  • Stores selected settings on the mouse for portability.
  • Can be useful for basic remaps and supported profiles.
  • Does not support the repeating macro modes Logitech lists above.

Do not assume that an onboard profile preserves every G HUB macro behavior. G502 generations—including HERO, LIGHTSPEED, older Proteus models, and G502 X-family devices—can expose different controls and software layouts.

Set up the correct profile

A macro can appear broken when it was assigned to one profile but the application is using another. For a reliable test:

  1. Create a dedicated G HUB profile for the desktop or intended application.
  2. Temporarily lock it to that application if G HUB provides the option.
  3. Confirm that the G502 button visibly shows the macro assignment.
  4. Test the assignment before launching the game.
  5. If the game uses a launcher, check that G HUB is associated with the actual game executable, not only the launcher.

Automatic Game Detection does not behave identically with every game. A locked, dedicated profile can make it easier to identify whether the problem is the macro or profile switching.

Test the macro safely

Test outside the game first. A text editor, browser field, or other harmless application can confirm whether a keyboard macro produces input. For a click macro, use a low-risk desktop target and begin with a longer delay.

Verify all of the following:

  • The assigned button starts the macro.
  • Repeat While Holding stops when you release the button.
  • Toggle stops when you press the button again.
  • No button remains logically held after the macro ends.
  • The macro does not replace a control you still need.

Fixes when the macro does not work

Nothing happens

  1. Disable On-Board Memory and return to software mode.
  2. Check that the macro is assigned to the active G502 profile.
  3. Make sure the button is not disabled or overridden by G-Shift.
  4. Confirm that G HUB is running.
  5. Test the macro in a simple desktop application.
  6. Check that G HUB and the game run at the same Windows privilege level.
  7. Consider that the game may block or ignore simulated input.

Logitech says that G HUB macro execution was changed in version 2022.3.242300 to improve multiplayer-game integrity. Its documented troubleshooting step is to run G HUB and the game at the same privilege level. Running both as administrator may help in some cases, but it does not guarantee compatibility.

Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse - White
  • Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
  • Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
  • Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
  • Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
  • Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver

It works on the desktop but not in the game

The game may reject simulated input, use an anti-cheat or input-integrity system, apply its own rate limiter, or ignore auxiliary-button input. The game may also be using the wrong G HUB profile. Do not attempt to bypass anti-cheat protections, disguise input, inject code, or evade game security systems.

The macro keeps repeating after release

Rebuild the event list with explicit paired events:

Button Down
Delay
Button Up
Delay

An unmatched button-down event can make the application behave as though the button remains held. Also confirm that the macro is set to Repeat While Holding rather than Toggle.

The macro is too fast or inconsistent

  • Increase the delay.
  • Use explicit down and up events.
  • Test a longer interval before tuning it downward.
  • Keep the macro on an auxiliary button while troubleshooting.
  • Check whether the application is rate-limiting input.

The G502 is not detected

  • Reconnect the wired mouse directly to USB.
  • Reconnect a wireless receiver directly rather than through an unpowered hub.
  • Restart G HUB.
  • Confirm that the device appears in G HUB before changing assignments.
  • Use Logitech’s official support or download pages for software updates.

Do not rely on obsolete firmware utilities. Logitech says its Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained.

  • Mechanical primary buttons are tensioned with durable metal springs for reliable performance and feel, with crisp clicks and precise feedback

Should you use LGS instead?

For a current G502 setup, start with G HUB. Logitech’s older LGS documentation explains mouse events, keystrokes, delays, and repeat options such as None, While Pressed, and Toggle, but those labels and capabilities should not be assumed to match the current G HUB interface. Mixing legacy LGS instructions with G HUB can also create device-detection or profile confusion.

Is a rapid-fire macro allowed?

That depends on the application. A macro may be acceptable for some desktop tasks but prohibited by a competitive game’s rules. Check the game’s current terms and tournament or server rules before using it, especially in multiplayer. A macro also cannot necessarily increase a weapon’s actual fire rate: the game may enforce its own cooldown regardless of how quickly inputs are sent.

Safer alternatives

  • Use an in-game hold-to-fire or accessibility setting.
  • Use a simple remap instead of automation.
  • Use a controller or mouse feature explicitly permitted by the game.
  • Use a one-shot macro for desktop productivity rather than repeated gameplay input.

For the normal G502 setup, the practical choice is G HUB software mode plus Repeat While Holding, assigned to an auxiliary button and tested outside the game first. Choose Toggle only when you can stop it reliably and the application’s rules permit it.
