Its defining feature is a motorized panel that changes from completely flat to a pronounced 900R curve within seconds. LG announced it ahead of CES 2025, alongside the fixed-curved 45GX950A—but the bendable model should not be confused with the fixed monitor that later received a confirmed U.S. preorder and retail listing.
What LG announced for CES 2025
LG’s December 30, 2024 announcement introduced the UltraGear GX9 family before the January 2025 show. The lineup centered on two 45-inch OLED gaming monitors: the bendable 45GX990A and fixed-curved 45GX950A. Early coverage also mentioned a separate 39-inch smart gaming monitor, but it is not part of the 45-inch GX9 comparison.
LG called the 45GX990A the world’s first bendable 5K2K OLED gaming monitor, based on the company’s comparison of published specifications as of December 2024. It also said the display received three CES 2025 Innovation Awards, including Best of Innovation. Those are manufacturer-reported distinctions, not independent performance tests. LG’s announcement contains the launch claims.
45GX990A specifications
| Specification | 45GX990A announcement detail |
|---|---|
| Panel | 45-inch-class OLED |
| Aspect ratio | 21:9 |
| Resolution | 5,120 × 2,160 (5K2K) |
| Curvature | Motorized adjustment from flat to 900R |
| Transition | LG says the change takes seconds |
| Response time | 0.03ms GtG, a manufacturer specification |
| Feature | Second-generation Dual-Mode with eight configurations |
“5K2K” is important. This is a wide 21:9 panel measuring 5,120 pixels across and 2,160 vertically—not a conventional 16:9 5K screen such as 5,120 × 2,880. Compared with a 4K ultrawide, the extra horizontal pixels provide more desktop room and a broader potential game view, while the 21:9 shape remains less extreme than a 32:9 super-ultrawide.

One later LG buying-guide page displays the fixed model as 5,160 × 2,160. That conflicts with LG’s CES release and other GX9 material, which identify 5,120 × 2,160. The launch specification is therefore best reported as 5,120 × 2,160, with the 5,160 figure treated as an apparent page inconsistency.
What the bendable panel changes
Flat mode
A flat screen can be more natural for spreadsheets, timelines, document editing and general desktop work. It also avoids forcing the edges of a very large panel toward the viewer when you are not gaming.
900R mode
A 900R curve is substantially tighter than the curve on many conventional ultrawides. In a racing game, flight simulator or RPG, bringing the sides around the viewer can make the large field of view feel more enveloping. LG confirms the two endpoints—flat and 900R—and a rapid transition; its announcement does not establish that every intermediate curvature can be selected.

The mechanism is also the practical question behind the spectacle. Motors, hinges and a flexible OLED assembly add engineering complexity that a fixed-curved monitor does not have. Whether that flexibility justifies a premium depends on how often you would genuinely switch modes.

Dual-Mode explained
LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode is separate from the physical bending mechanism. It offers eight preset combinations involving:
- 21:9 or 16:9 aspect ratio
- 39-, 34- or 27-inch displayed image size
- Different resolution and refresh-rate modes
The idea is to use the full ultrawide canvas for games designed around it, then present a smaller 16:9 image for titles that lack good ultrawide support or for users who prefer a concentrated competitive view. LG says the mode can be changed with a physical hotkey or through the monitor menu without rebooting or changing cables. It cannot guarantee correct ultrawide rendering, HUD placement or ideal scaling in every game.

For the fixed 45GX950A, LG documents 5K2K/WUHD at 165Hz and WFHD (2,560 × 1,080) at 330Hz. Those figures are confirmed for the fixed model and should not automatically be assigned to the bendable 45GX990A.
The fixed model’s documented connectivity includes DisplayPort 2.1 with DSC, two HDMI 2.1 ports, USB-C with up to 90W power delivery, NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and variable-refresh-rate support. Check the exact model and source device before assuming the bendable version has an identical port configuration.

Not on the evidence established by LG’s cited U.S. announcements. LG’s March 2025 GX9 preorder release covers the 45GX950A-B, the fixed-curved sibling, at a $1,999 U.S. preorder price: LG’s preorder announcement. It does not confirm a U.S. preorder, price or normal retail launch for the bendable 45GX990A.

LG does have a U.S. product page for the fixed model at 45GX950A-B. A recently observed page price of $1,499.99, shown as $500 off a $1,999 list price, is a dated promotional signal rather than a guaranteed price for August 2026. Treat any 45GX990A listing as unconfirmed unless it comes with an official regional price, stock status and model number.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is 5K2K OLED practical for gaming?
5,120 × 2,160 combines a large workspace with considerably more rendering load than 1440p ultrawide or standard 4K. A monitor’s headline refresh capability does not mean a particular game will sustain that frame rate at native resolution. Ray tracing and high-quality settings increase the demand further, so check benchmarks for your own graphics card and games and plan to use upscaling or reduced settings when necessary.
- Desk space: a 45-inch 21:9 display needs substantial width and depth, especially at a 900R viewing distance.
- Curve preference: 900R may suit immersive games but can feel aggressive for productivity or shared viewing.
- OLED ownership: prolonged static desktop elements are a general OLED consideration. Review the exact regional warranty and panel-care terms before buying; no specific 45GX990A burn-in policy is established here.
- Game compatibility: Dual-Mode provides alternate presentations, but it does not make every title a perfect ultrawide or 16:9 experience.
The 45GX990A makes the most sense for enthusiasts who want one display that can be flat for work and curved for games, particularly simulation players with a powerful PC. Competitive players focused primarily on maximum refresh rate, buyers with limited desk depth, and anyone needing a known, immediately purchasable product may be better served by a simpler or fixed alternative.

Verdict
The 45GX990A is a technically ambitious CES announcement: a 45-inch 21:9 OLED with 5K2K resolution, a claimed 0.03ms GtG response time, Dual-Mode presets and a motorized change from flat to 900R. Its significance is real, but its announcement specifications are not independent test results, and the cited U.S. material does not establish a retail price or broad availability for the bendable model.
If you want the GX9 concept in a documented U.S. product today, the fixed 45GX950A-B is the relevant comparison—but it has an 800R permanent curve and no flat-to-900R mechanism. Readers specifically waiting for the bendable experience should verify an official 45GX990A listing before treating it as a buy-now monitor.
