Netflix’s TV games turn a compatible television into a party-game screen while each player uses a phone or tablet as a controller. The feature launched in beta during the 2025 holiday season, with games included in an eligible Netflix membership rather than sold separately. It is convenient for existing subscribers, but it is not a console replacement: device support is limited, a separate mobile device is required for every TV player, and dedicated gamepads are not supported.
What Netflix launched
An October 13, 2025 report described Netflix’s new TV-based group-play experience. Games run through Netflix on a compatible smart TV or TV-streaming device, while the television shows the shared game and phones or tablets provide the controls. Netflix also supports launching games through Netflix.com.
This is separate from Netflix’s mobile-game category. TV games run on the television and use phones as controllers; mobile games are downloaded and played directly on Android or Apple devices and are not automatically playable on a TV (Netflix Help Center).
Netflix says physical gamepads and other controllers are not currently supported for TV play (Netflix Help Center).

The five-game holiday launch lineup
The launch report named these five titles. They describe the original October 2025 lineup, not the complete catalog available in 2026.
| Game | Format | Confirmed players | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| LEGO Party! | Minigame collection | Multiplayer; exact count not stated in the cited support material | Fast, competitive rounds |
| Boggle Party | Word game | 1–8 | Groups that enjoy wordplay, including solo players |
| Pictionary: Game Night | Drawing and guessing | 2–10 | The largest confirmed launch-game group |
| Tetris Time Warp | Puzzle/match game | Single-player and multiplayer; count not stated in the cited support material | Mixed groups wanting less conversation-dependent play |
| Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends | Social deduction | 3–6 | Small groups comfortable bluffing and discussing |
Player counts and title support pages: LEGO Party!, Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends.
What is available now?
Netflix’s later Help Center listings show that the catalog has expanded beyond the original five. GIFTED supports 3–9 players and is a phone-controlled social party game (Netflix Help Center). The Jackbox Party Essentials supports 2–8 players and bundles phone-controlled trivia, drawing, and social-deduction games (Netflix Help Center). Because Netflix describes TV games as a beta experience, the titles shown to you can vary by device, account region, and rollout status.

- A fast-paced game of deception and betrayal
- Beautiful wooden components
- Solid game boards with foil inlay
- Hidden roles and secret envelopes for five to ten players
What a household needs
- An active Netflix membership.
- A compatible smart TV or TV-streaming device with the Netflix app.
- A stable internet connection; Netflix recommends download speeds of at least 10 Mbps (Netflix Help Center).
- One phone or tablet for every person playing on the TV.
- For iPhone and iPad controllers, iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Android players need the Netflix app installed when required.
You do not need to buy a console, a separate game, or a dedicated controller. A phone or tablet is still required for each TV player, and Netflix does not support physical gamepads for this experience.

How to check TV compatibility
Open Netflix, select a profile, and look for the Games option or a Games row. Its presence is the quickest practical eligibility check. If it is missing, verify that your country is supported, consult Netflix’s compatible-device information, update the TV or streaming-device software, and restart Netflix. Netflix notes that the beta rollout depends on hardware, manufacture year, region, and software status; ordinary Netflix streaming working on a device does not guarantee TV-game support.

- Two teams race to identify their agents from a 5×5 grid, guided by a spymaster who knows each card’s identity
- Spymasters give one-word clues and a number to link multiple cards, encouraging creative thinking
- Teammates guess words matching the clue while avoiding the other team’s agents, bystanders, and the assassin
- Revealing the assassin ends the game instantly, adding high-stakes tension
- Teams may guess up to the clue number plus one, allowing strategic risks or revisiting old clues
Where the feature is available
Netflix currently lists TV and computer games in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Netflix says more countries may be added, so check the current list at Netflix’s availability page before planning an event.
Is it free?
Netflix says its mobile and TV games are included with membership, with no separate game fees, advertisements, or in-app purchases (Netflix Help Center). The accurate description is included with an eligible Netflix membership, not independent free-to-play software: you still need the subscription, compatible TV hardware, internet access, and controller devices.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Games option is missing
- Confirm that the account is in a listed country.
- Check Netflix’s compatible-device information and update device software.
- Restart Netflix. If a listed-compatible device still lacks Games, contact the manufacturer or Netflix.
The QR code will not scan
Change the distance between the phone and screen, tap the displayed code to refocus, and use the phone’s native camera rather than a third-party scanner (Netflix Help Center).

A controller disconnects
Wake the phone if its screen turned off, rescan when needed, temporarily disable a VPN, and prefer Wi-Fi over cellular data (Netflix Help Center).
There are too many players
This can mean another game session is active on the same Netflix account, or that the selected title has reached its own limit. Stop the other session, close Netflix elsewhere, or choose another game.
A game disappears
Netflix says a title can be temporarily unavailable while it is being updated or fixed. Try again later or select another game.

Netflix TV games versus a dedicated party-game purchase
| Choose Netflix when… | Choose a dedicated alternative when… |
|---|---|
| Your household already subscribes and wants a low-friction, included activity. | You want games independent of a Netflix membership. |
| Everyone has a suitable phone or tablet and the TV shows Games. | Guests cannot install an app, scan a QR code, or keep phones charged. |
| Drawing, wordplay, bluffing, and short minigames fit the gathering. | You need offline play, physical controllers, or a more predictable dedicated setup. |
| You are comfortable with beta availability and device-specific support. | You need guaranteed availability for a large event. |
The Netflix version of The Jackbox Party Essentials is already one current option. Buying Jackbox separately can make sense for people who want an independent party-game library, but that introduces an additional purchase; the available evidence does not establish a universal advantage in catalog size, pricing, or platform support.
Privacy and account details
Netflix says it receives and stores information about the Netflix app, device, and account used for TV and Netflix.com games. Controller gameplay information is linked to the Netflix account running the TV game (Netflix Help Center).
Verdict
Netflix TV games are a useful bonus for subscribers who already have a compatible TV and enough phones for the group. They can remove the need for a separate party-game purchase for casual drawing, word, puzzle, and bluffing sessions. They are not a replacement for a console or a guaranteed dedicated party-game platform: beta rollout, regional and device limits, phone dependence, and the lack of physical-controller support remain decisive constraints.
