Samsung did not add a Galaxy S23 handset to Fortnite’s main Battle Royale. On March 3, 2023, it activated a Galaxy S23-themed update to its branded Samsung SmartCity island: a virtual showroom, three product-inspired abilities and a hide-and-seek challenge called Fun Game Quest. Samsung Latinoamérica announced the activation on March 6, 2023.
The island code supplied at launch was 8526-6648-9508. That is historical access information, not confirmation that the island remains published or playable in 2026.
What Samsung actually brought to Fortnite
Samsung SmartCity was a branded island in Fortnite’s Creative ecosystem, described by Samsung as an immersive space for interacting with Galaxy products. The Galaxy S23 update changed that island’s map, activities and showroom; it was not a new Fortnite-wide mode, a Battle Royale season feature or a hardware integration in which Fortnite used a player’s phone.
Samsung had previously used SmartCity to promote products including the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. The 2023 update shifted the focus to the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung’s announcement is available in its Newsroom México report.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
When the Galaxy S23 island launched
- March 3, 2023: Samsung said the revised map, gameplay and showroom became available.
- March 6, 2023: Samsung Latinoamérica published its announcement.
- March 8, 2023: Android Headlines reported on the activation in English.
The dates identify a 2023 marketing activation, not a current Fortnite release. Fortnite islands can be unpublished, replaced or altered by their creators, so the launch announcement cannot establish present availability.
The three Galaxy-inspired abilities
Samsung described three abilities that translated Galaxy S23 branding into fictional island mechanics:
Rank #2
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
| In-game feature | What Samsung said it did | Product inspiration |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom | Let players see distant objects at high resolution. | Galaxy S23 camera zoom. |
| Nightography | Helped players see in dark areas. | Samsung’s low-light camera branding. |
| Knox | Added a protective effect for the player. | Samsung Knox security branding. |
These were representations inside Samsung’s island. They did not use the Galaxy S23 camera, protect a Fortnite account with real Knox security or give Galaxy owners an advantage outside this branded experience. The descriptions come from Samsung’s announcement rather than an independent technical test.
How Fun Game Quest worked
Fun Game Quest was a hide-and-seek activity within Samsung SmartCity. Players searched for a hidden Galaxy S23 and tried to keep possession of it until the round ended. In the earlier version, the hidden target was a Galaxy Z Fold4; the S23 replaced it for this update. Android Headlines also described the change in its March 8, 2023 report.

That distinction matters: Fun Game Quest was a mini-game on Samsung’s island, not a general Fortnite playlist available across the main game.
What was in the virtual showroom?
The showroom combined the phone promotion with a wider Samsung product display. Samsung listed:
Rank #4
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
- Galaxy S23 smartphones
- QN90B gaming smart TV
- The Frame
- The Serif
- The Sero
- The Terrace
- The Freestyle
- Odyssey monitors
Samsung also used the island to communicate sustainability messaging. It said the Galaxy S23 Ultra used 12 internal and external components made with recycled materials, compared with six internal components in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Those figures are Samsung’s product claim and apply specifically to that S23 Ultra comparison; they are not an independent lifecycle assessment or a statement about every S23 model.
How players accessed it in 2023
- Install Fortnite on a smartphone or PC.
- Search for Samsung SmartCity in Fortnite’s island browser.
- Enter island code 8526-6648-9508.
Samsung’s original instructions did not say that a Galaxy phone was required. The code should be treated as a launch-period route only. Whether Samsung SmartCity is still listed, and whether that code resolves to the same island in 2026, is not established by the original announcement. Players can check Fortnite’s current island search and the official Fortnite download page, but a search result today would be the evidence of current access—not the 2023 press release.

Why Samsung used a Fortnite island
SmartCity turned product marketing into an activity. Camera terms became abilities, the phone became the objective in a competitive mini-game, and the showroom provided a place to display televisions, appliances and monitors. That combination let Samsung reach players with an entertainment experience while keeping the Galaxy S23 at the center of the island.
“Fortnite metaverse” was the language used by Samsung and contemporary coverage. In practical terms, visitors entered a creator-built, Samsung-branded Fortnite island rather than a separate virtual-reality platform or a new game client.
What this promotion was not
- It was not a Galaxy S23-exclusive Fortnite phone or a Fortnite-branded handset.
- It was not a core Battle Royale update.
- It did not make the player’s real camera control the island.
- Knox did not secure the player’s actual Fortnite account or device.
- Samsung did not establish that buying a Galaxy S23 unlocked the island.
- Its 2023 access code is not proof of availability in 2026.
Should you buy a Galaxy S23 for Samsung SmartCity?
No. The promotion did not require Samsung hardware, and current access to the island is unconfirmed. The Galaxy S23 is an older generation by 2026, so buyers may encounter discontinued stock, clearance units or refurbished phones rather than a normal current flagship offer. Samsung’s official S23 product area is samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-s23/; its current phone range is at samsung.com/us/smartphones/. Neither page, by itself, confirms access to Samsung SmartCity.
If your goal is simply to play Fortnite, use a supported device and consult Fortnite’s current distribution and platform requirements. A PC or other supported Android phone may be suitable without any connection to Samsung’s 2023 promotion. A refurbished S23 can be a separate value decision, but battery condition, regional model, warranty and seller reliability need checking.

Samsung’s “Galaxy S23 in Fortnite” was a real March 2023 update to the Samsung SmartCity island. It offered Zoom, Nightography and Knox-themed mechanics, the Fun Game Quest hide-and-seek challenge, and a virtual showroom featuring Samsung devices. The phone appeared as a virtual product and marketing theme—not as hardware inside Fortnite’s main game. The island code 8526-6648-9508 records how players entered at launch, but its present-day status remains unverified.
