GameSir X2s Bluetooth Mobile Controller Review: Could Have Been Perfect

The GameSir X2s Bluetooth offers excellent tactile controls and Hall Effect hardware for about $45, but case fit, iPhone limitations, missing wired audio and touch-mapping hassles keep it from perfection.

Verdict: The GameSir X2s Bluetooth delivers unusually good controls for its roughly $45 price: a comfortable full-width grip, tactile buttons, and Hall Effect sticks and triggers. It falls short of perfection because phone-case fit is uncertain, iPhone customization is limited, there is no headphone jack, and many Android games still need touch mapping.

Quick verdict

This review covers the GameSir X2s Bluetooth Mobile Gaming Controller, not the separately sold X2s Type-C. GameSir lists the Bluetooth model for iOS, Android phones and PC, and its official price was $44.99 in the United States on August 16, 2026; retailer prices can differ. See the official product page.

  • Best for: Android players who want tactile controls, Hall Effect hardware and a wider handheld shape at a modest price.
  • Think twice if: you keep a thick case on your phone, need wired audio, expect iPhone-side profiles, or mostly play touch-only games.

The X2s prioritizes physical hardware and price over software polish and convenience. That is why the “could have been perfect” criticism still fits in 2026, although the original hands-on review dates from April 4, 2024.

Bluetooth and Type-C are different products

The reviewed X2s uses Bluetooth. The X2s Type-C is a wired controller, as confirmed by GameSir’s Type-C FAQ. Do not apply Bluetooth pairing advice, wireless behavior or battery expectations to the Type-C version.

Design and comfort

The gray-and-purple shell has a Nintendo 2DS-inspired look, but the important ergonomic choice is its full-width handheld shape. Instead of feeling like a narrow clip with controls attached, it gives both hands a larger backplate and rubber-coated grip areas. That extra support helps during longer sessions and suits shooters, action games, RPGs, platformers and fighting games.

Comfort is not universal. The shoulder buttons use micro-switches with a short, distinctly clicky travel. Players who like crisp digital feedback may prefer them; anyone expecting soft, analog-feeling triggers may find them noisy or abrupt. Hand size and tolerance for button noise matter as much as the shell design.

Controls and Hall Effect hardware

GameSir specifies Hall Effect analog sticks and triggers, tactile cushioned face buttons and micro-switch LB/RB buttons. Hall Effect sensors measure magnetic position rather than relying on the conventional potentiometer arrangement associated with many drift failures. That can reduce one common source of wear, but it is not a guarantee against inaccurate inputs, mechanical wear, failed buttons or calibration problems.

The April 2024 BGR review reported no stick drift during its limited testing and liked the stick feel. That is useful hands-on evidence, not a long-term durability study. GameSir also lists adjustable stick and trigger dead zones through its Android app.

GameSir Cyclone 2 Wireless PC Controller,1000Hz,TMR Joysticks
  • PC Controller with TMR Joysticks — Advanced TMR sticks deliver ultra-precise control with zero stick drift and long-lasting accuracy. Designed for competitive gaming with smooth, responsive movement on PC and Switch. Not compatible with Xbox consoles.
  • Wireless Gaming Controller with 3 Connectivity Modes — Easily switch between 2.4G wireless, Bluetooth, and USB-C wired connections. Enjoy stable low-latency gameplay across PC, Switch, Android, and Steam gaming setups.
  • Hall Effect Controller with 2-in-1 Trigger System — Seamlessly switch between Hall Effect analog triggers for racing games and hair-trigger Micro mode for FPS. Full throttle precision in Forza, instant fire response in shooters — one controller handles every genre.
  • 1000Hz Polling Rate in Wired & Wireless Mode — Cyclone 2 maintains full 1000Hz polling rate in both 2.4G wireless and wired modes. Competitive-grade response with the freedom of wireless.
  • PC Gamepad with Microswitch Face Buttons — Rated for 5 million clicks, microswitch ABXY buttons deliver crisp tactile feedback with every press. Fast, accurate, and built to outlast traditional membrane buttons by years.

Extra modes

  • Hair-trigger mode: useful for fast firing, but it sacrifices some of the gradual trigger travel that racing and simulation games use.
  • Turbo: relevant to selected games, but it may be inappropriate or prohibited in competitive play.
  • Screenshot shortcut: convenient when the phone and game respond to the operating-system command as expected.

Feature availability is not necessarily identical across Android, iOS and PC; the full customization claim is specifically Android-only.

Phone fit is more complicated than the size range

GameSir lists supported phone lengths from 110 to 168 mm. A phone can fall inside that range and still fail to connect because a case blocks the connector, prevents the clamp from closing or leaves the camera bump misaligned.

  • Thick rugged, wallet, battery and camera-protection cases are the highest-risk designs.
  • Check the exact phone-and-case combination, not only the handset’s dimensions.
  • Foldables may need to be used unfolded and still require adequate clamp clearance; the published range is not a blanket foldable guarantee.

In BGR’s tested setup, an iPhone 15 Pro Max fit physically but its case kept the connector from reaching reliably, so the case had to come off. That does not prove every case fails, but it demonstrates why “case compatible” would be too broad a promise. Case removal also adds friction and exposes the phone to more handling.

Android versus iPhone

Both platforms can use the X2s in games that accept external controllers. They do not receive equal software treatment. GameSir’s current product page lists full customization through the GameSir app as Android-only, including dead-zone adjustment, A/B and X/Y remapping and controller profiles.

  • HALL EFFECT STICKS — PRECISE CONTROL: GameSir Hall Effect sensing sticks deliver smooth 360° control for accurate aiming, movement, and camera adjustments. Built for fast-paced mobile games and streamed console or PC titles.
  • LIGHTWEIGHT & ERGONOMIC — 135.4G: At just 135.4g, X5 Lite stays lightweight during extended gaming. Ergonomic, laser-engraved textured grips provide a secure, comfortable hold at home or on the go.
  • CUSHIONED MEMBRANE CONTROLS — COMFORTABLE & QUIETER: Cushioned membrane buttons and triggers provide comfortable feedback for repeated inputs while keeping operation quieter. Ideal for extended sessions or gaming in shared spaces.
  • Android: use the app when you need profiles, dead-zone changes or touch-mapping features.
  • iPhone: compatible games can use the controller, but do not expect equivalent app-based customization.

The original BGR review found the Android app detected the controller while the iPhone experience lacked the same configuration options. Its broader criticism of app quality is a dated 2024 assessment; the current first-party limitation that matters for buyers is still Android-only customization.

Native games, touch mapping and streaming

“Works with Android” does not mean every Android game will recognize the X2s. There are two different experiences:

Native controller support

The game recognizes the X2s as a standard gamepad. This is generally the cleanest setup, with no virtual-touch layer to configure.

G-Touch or V-Touch mapping

GameSir’s FAQ names Genshin Impact, Call of Duty: Mobile and Rocket League Sideswipe as examples that may require G-Touch or V-Touch on Android. Mapping translates button presses into virtual touches and can require permissions or per-game setup. Updates to a game, Android or anti-cheat systems can disrupt it, and some games may not permit mapping reliably.

  • Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
  • 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).

  • Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.

Cloud and remote play

GameSir advertises controller-supported mobile games, cloud gaming and remote play. A responsive local game does not guarantee a responsive stream: Wi-Fi quality, server distance, console performance and the streaming app all add delay. Test a locally installed controller-compatible game before blaming Bluetooth for cloud latency.

The omissions that keep it from perfect

No headphone jack

The X2s has no 3.5 mm audio port. Bluetooth earbuds solve that for many players, but anyone relying on wired headphones, a USB-C DAC, a microphone or other wired accessories should verify the exact phone connection before buying.

Charging USB-C is not a data port

BGR reported that the controller’s USB-C port is for charging rather than data transfer. It should not be treated as a pass-through connection for accessories.

Software convenience

Compared with more app-centered competitors, the X2s asks the buyer to manage more of the experience: pairing, game-specific support and, on Android, possible mapping configuration.

  • Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).

  • Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.

Setup and troubleshooting

  1. Charge the controller before first use.
  2. Confirm that you bought the Bluetooth model rather than X2s Type-C.
  3. Remove the phone case if the connector or clamp cannot seat completely.
  4. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and place the controller in pairing mode using the included manual for your model.
  5. Pair it, then test a known controller-compatible game or controller-test utility.
  6. On Android, open the GameSir app only when you need profiles, dead-zone settings or G-Touch/V-Touch mapping.
  7. Install firmware updates only with adequate charge and a stable connection.
  8. If pairing fails, forget the old Bluetooth entry, power-cycle the controller and pair again.
  9. If one game fails, test another native-controller game before treating the hardware as defective.

Exact button combinations and app labels can change, so use the current manual or support page for your model. A game-specific failure is often a compatibility issue rather than a broken controller.

How it compares with alternatives

Controller Choose it when… Main trade-off
GameSir X2s Bluetooth You want tactile controls, Hall Effect sticks/triggers and a retro full-width design near $45. Case fit, iPhone customization and wired-audio options are limited.
Backbone One You value app integration and a more streamlined plug-and-play experience. Exact connector, platform version and features vary; do not generalize across all Backbone models.
Razer Kishi series You want a more console-like alternative and are comparing several generations. Fit, software and features differ substantially by model.
GameSir G8 Galileo You prefer a larger, more premium GameSir option. The official collection showed it from $59.99 versus $44.99 for the X2s on August 16, 2026; current model details vary.
Budget iPega-style controllers Lowest purchase price is the priority. Construction, app support and connection reliability vary more by model.

The BGR reviewer preferred Backbone for app experience, headphone support and case convenience, while liking aspects of the X2s hardware and design. That is a use-case distinction, not a universal winner.

Who should buy the X2s?

Buy it if

  • You mainly play games with native controller support.
  • You use Android and want app-based profiles or dead-zone controls.
  • You prefer clicky, tactile inputs and a broad handheld grip.
  • You have a slim case or are comfortable removing it.
  • Hall Effect components and a roughly $45 price matter more than app polish.

Skip it if

  • Your protective case must stay on at all times.
  • You need iPhone-side profile and dead-zone customization.
  • You require a headphone jack, USB-C audio or other wired accessories.
  • You mostly play touch-first games or cannot tolerate mapping setup.
  • You frequently switch devices and want minimal Bluetooth housekeeping.

Final verdict

The GameSir X2s Bluetooth is not a bad controller that happens to have flaws; it is a very good piece of hardware surrounded by avoidable friction. Its grip, tactile controls and Hall Effect components make the $44.99 price compelling, especially for Android players using native-controller games. Case-dependent fit, Android-only customization, missing wired audio and uneven game support stop it from being the effortless mobile handheld it could have been.

Buy the X2s for its feel and value. Choose a more convenience-focused competitor when case freedom, app integration or accessory support matters more than tactile hardware.
