“Remote control” can mean gamepad input, media playback controls, system commands, or video streaming. Those are different capabilities: a web page that can shut down a console does not provide the analog sticks and button input needed to play a game.
Why Sony’s PS Remote Play app does not work with PS3
The current U.S. App Store listing for PS Remote Play names PS5 and PS4 as supported consoles and requires iOS 15.0 or later. It does not list PS3. The app can stream supported console gameplay to an iPhone and provide on-screen controls, but installing it will not add PS3 compatibility.
PS3-era Remote Play is a separate feature, not an earlier version of the current iPhone app. Sony’s PS3 Remote Play guide describes use with compatible Sony devices such as PSP and PS Vita. The console’s documented registration path is Settings → Remote Play Settings → Register Device; it does not provide an iPhone setup path.

What works with a stock PS3?
For normal game control, use a compatible physical controller. For Blu-ray and other media playback, a PS3-compatible media remote is a more dependable choice than an iPhone app. A compatible TV remote may also provide some basic control, depending on the television and console settings, but it is not a substitute for full gamepad input.
Sony’s Media Remote application support page explicitly says that application does not work with PlayStation 3. Likewise, a generic Bluetooth gamepad app or an iPhone controller accessory does not make the phone pair with a stock PS3 as a DualShock 3. Check for explicit PS3 support before buying an accessory; support for iPhone Remote Play generally refers to PS4 or PS5.

Using an iPhone with a modified PS3
If the console already runs compatible CFW or HEN, webMAN MOD can expose a web interface and HTTP commands that you can open from Safari on a phone connected to the same local network. It is homebrew for modified systems, not a Sony feature or an App Store app for an untouched console.
Basic local-network setup
- Confirm the prerequisite: the PS3 must already be running a compatible CFW or HEN environment. Consult the webMAN MOD documentation for installation and compatibility details.
- Install and enable webMAN MOD: follow the project’s instructions for your console environment and confirm that its web server is enabled.
- Connect both devices to your home network: put the iPhone and PS3 on the same local network.
- Find the PS3’s local IP address: use the console’s network information, then enter its address in Safari. For example, if its address is 192.168.1.25, open
http://192.168.1.25/. - Use the web interface or a documented command: begin with a low-impact action and confirm the address and command before trying system-changing operations.
- For repeat use, save a shortcut: you can add a page to the iPhone Home Screen or create a Shortcut that opens a URL. Verify the console address and command before running it.

These are webMAN MOD commands, not native iPhone controls. Their availability and behavior depend on the installed version, firmware environment, and configuration; check the project documentation for the command you intend to use.
What webMAN MOD can—and cannot—control

Even a custom touch interface would lack the feel and precision of analog sticks, and network delay can make fast gameplay impractical. Games may also rely on simultaneous inputs or pressure-sensitive controls. Browser commands alone do not carry the PS3’s video output to the iPhone; displaying that output requires a separate video-capture or streaming path, with added hardware, configuration, and potential latency.

Troubleshooting and network safety
- The page will not load: check that both devices are on the same local network, confirm the PS3’s current IP address, and make sure webMAN MOD’s web server is enabled.
- The address worked before but not now: the console’s IP may have changed. Update the address in Safari or your Shortcut; a router reservation can help keep the local address consistent.
- A command does nothing: check the URL spelling and encoding, the webMAN MOD version, and whether that command is supported by your configuration.
- It only works at home: that is expected for a local-network setup. Do not expose the PS3 web server directly to the public internet with port forwarding. A properly configured VPN is a safer remote-access approach, but requires separate network setup.
- The command targets the wrong console or content: stop using the Shortcut, verify the IP address and command path, and test again only after confirming both.
webMAN MOD is a privileged interface, not just a media remote. Its documented features extend to functions such as FTP, file management, and PS3MAPI-related controls; see the webMAN MOD features documentation. Use commands only from sources you trust, and be especially cautious with operations that alter files, firmware settings, mounted content, or system processes.

Choose the option that matches your goal
- Want to play PS3 games: use a compatible physical controller. An iPhone is not an official PS3 Remote Play device.
- Want an everyday media remote: use a PS3-compatible physical remote rather than relying on Sony’s Media Remote application, which excludes PS3.
- Want selected power, disc, or launch commands: webMAN MOD may suit you if the PS3 is already modified and you are comfortable managing it on your local network.
- Want official iPhone Remote Play: Sony’s current app supports PS4 and PS5, not PS3.
