Genshin Impact officially supports iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X or newer, but HoYoverse recommends the iPhone 12 series or newer. The published minimum is iOS 14 or later, 3 GB of RAM and 40 GB of free storage; the recommended specification raises that to 4 GB of RAM and 60 GB free. Those figures are current as of August 18, 2026, and storage needs may increase with updates. HoYoverse’s system requirements distinguish a phone that meets the minimum from one intended to provide a better experience.
Minimum and recommended iPhone requirements
| Requirement | Minimum supported | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X, and newer | iPhone 12 series and newer |
| Chip | Apple A11 or later | Apple A13 or later |
| RAM | 3 GB or more | 4 GB or more |
| iOS | iOS 14 or later | iOS 14 or later |
| Available storage | 40 GB or more | 60 GB or more |
These are HoYoverse’s published iOS requirements, on a page updated November 11, 2025. “Recommended” is a baseline, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, graphics preset or performance in every situation. HoYoverse warns that storage needs can rise with future updates. See the full requirements.
What is the oldest iPhone that can run Genshin Impact?
HoYoverse’s listed supported iPhone models begin with the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X—not the regular iPhone 8. Although the iPhone 8 has an A11 chip, it has 2 GB of RAM, below the listed 3 GB minimum. Don’t treat a chip name alone as proof that a phone meets the requirements: the model, RAM, operating system and free storage all matter.
An iPhone 8 Plus or X may launch the game, but meeting minimum specifications does not mean it will run smoothly. HoYoverse says minimum-spec devices can have long loading times, low frame rates, freezing in demanding scenes and other performance problems. Its performance guidance was updated October 22, 2025.

Which iPhone should you buy for Genshin Impact?
| Your situation | Sensible target | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You already own an iPhone 8 Plus or X | Keep it if the experience is acceptable to you | It meets the published minimum, but may require reduced settings and tolerate stutter or long loads. |
| You want the cheapest practical used option | iPhone 12 | It reaches HoYoverse’s recommended model threshold. |
| You can spend a little more for a used phone | iPhone 13 | A reasonable value target when the price difference is modest; check battery and storage rather than paying for appearance. |
| You want more ownership headroom | iPhone 14 or newer | Newer hardware is a more conservative choice for keeping the phone longer, though no model guarantees future performance. |
| You prioritize screen size | Plus or Max model | A larger display may make touch controls more comfortable, at the cost of greater size and potentially price. |
| You prioritize portability | Standard-size model, or a specific mini model after checking its requirements | A smaller phone is easier to carry, but touch controls may feel cramped during long sessions. |
For most buyers, an iPhone 12 or 13 in good condition, with enough capacity and a healthy battery, is a more sensible Genshin purchase than an expensive Pro model bought for the game alone. HoYoverse does not require a Pro iPhone. Don’t rely on unsupported frame-rate promises: actual performance can vary with game settings, heat, battery condition and background activity.
The App Store listing currently displays a general iOS 13-or-later compatibility label, while HoYoverse’s detailed requirements specify iOS 14 or later. For the hardware and software baseline in this guide, use the detailed HoYoverse requirements, rather than interpreting the App Store label as a promise of smooth play. How much storage should your iPhone have?
HoYoverse specifies available storage: 40 GB at minimum and 60 GB recommended. That is free space, not the phone’s advertised total capacity. iOS, photos, other apps, temporary installation files and later game updates also need room.
As practical buying guidance—not an official requirement—128 GB is a more comfortable baseline for someone who plans to play Genshin Impact on the phone. Consider 256 GB if you keep a large photo or video library or several large games. A 64 GB phone may technically have enough space at a particular moment, but can be difficult to manage if you cannot keep the required amount free.

Check whether your current iPhone is suitable
- Identify the exact model. Check that it is on HoYoverse’s supported list; don’t infer eligibility from the chip alone.
- Check iOS. The published requirement is iOS 14 or later.
- Check free space. Compare available storage—not total capacity—with the 40 GB minimum or 60 GB recommendation.
- Consider battery condition and heat. A worn battery, overheating or shutdowns can make a used phone a poor choice for long gaming sessions.
- Set expectations. If the phone only meets minimum specifications, decide whether you can accept reduced graphics, slower loading or occasional stutter.
RAM is one part of the picture, not the whole performance story. HoYoverse lists 3 GB for supported devices and 4 GB for recommended devices, but the chip, thermal behavior, battery condition, storage pressure, screen resolution, background apps and game settings also affect the experience.
Are iPhone SE and Pro models good choices?
iPhone SE
Check the specific SE generation instead of assuming every model qualifies. HoYoverse’s requirements include both a device list and RAM figures, so an A-series chip by itself is not enough to establish support. Newer SE models may have capable chips, but their smaller screens and batteries may be less comfortable for extended play.

iPhone Pro
A Pro model is not necessary to meet HoYoverse’s recommended baseline. It may suit someone who also wants a premium display, camera, storage options or broader performance headroom, but don’t pay extra on the assumption that Genshin requires it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before buying a used iPhone
- Ask for the exact model, storage capacity and current battery health.
- Check that the touch screen responds across the full display, including its edges; ask about display or battery repairs where possible.
- Confirm the phone is not Activation Locked and can be set up with your account.
- After setup, make sure it can update to the required iOS version and has room for the game plus future updates.
- Ask about unexpected heat, rapid battery drain, shutdowns or performance problems during use.
- Prefer a seller with a clear return policy, especially if you cannot test the phone before paying.
A newer model in good condition can be a better gaming purchase than an older, nominally compatible phone with a degraded battery. Compare the device’s condition and usable storage, not just its model name.

What to try if the game freezes or runs poorly
- Update iOS and Genshin Impact to available versions.
- Lower Graphics Quality and other graphics settings in the game.
- Close background apps to free resources.
- Check the network. Use a stable connection; network problems can cause disconnections or delayed actions, while low frame rates and heat point more toward device performance or settings.
- Restart the game and iPhone.
- Reassess the hardware. If problems continue on a minimum-spec phone, a device meeting the recommended class is the more reliable remedy.
HoYoverse notes that devices below its specifications may fail to install or launch the game, or encounter black screens, freezing and other technical problems. Its minimum-spec guidance also recommends a stable network and closing background applications.
Move your Genshin Impact account to a new iPhone
Genshin Impact supports cross-save across PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation and Xbox. To access existing progress on a new iPhone, sign in with the same HoYoverse account or the correctly linked login method. Don’t assume Apple, Game Center, Google and email sign-ins are interchangeable simply because they use the same email address. If progress appears missing, check which account or login method you used on the old device. HoYoverse cross-save guidance and account-transfer troubleshooting explain the process.
