No. The GameShark/Ai Shark announcement did not accurately reveal Nintendo Switch 2’s release date. A January 2024 announcement was reported as saying the product would launch alongside Switch 2 in September 2024, but Altec Lansing later changed that to “fall 2024” and told reporters the date was only a guess. Nintendo ultimately launched Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

The announcement that started the Switch 2 leak rumor

On January 11, 2024, Altec Lansing announced Ai Shark, describing it as formerly known as GameShark. The planned product was presented as AI-assisted gaming software that could offer personalized hints and gameplay help, with software and chipset solutions intended for peripherals such as keyboards, headphones and mice. It was not announced as a traditional GameShark cheat cartridge or as a Nintendo accessory.

Altec’s original press release said the Ai Shark offering was planned for introduction during the 2024 holiday season. However, contemporary coverage reported wording that associated its launch with the Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2024. That specific month created the leak story.

Why readers treated it as a Nintendo leak

The theory was understandable but unproven: a company preparing gaming software for new hardware appeared to name a precise Switch 2 launch month before Nintendo had announced one. Readers inferred that Ai Shark or Altec Lansing might have received confidential scheduling information from Nintendo.

  • BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.

That inference went beyond what the announcement established. The statement came from a third-party company, not Nintendo, and no Nintendo representative confirmed the month. A planned partner product can be based on an estimated market window, an internal target, a hoped-for launch period or a marketing assumption without reflecting Nintendo’s final schedule.

What the announcement did—and did not—establish

  • It established that Altec Lansing was announcing a licensed Ai Shark project described as a GameShark successor.
  • It described proposed AI gaming assistance, not a confirmed, shipping Switch 2 product.
  • It did not establish that Nintendo had supplied a confidential release date.
  • It did not constitute a Nintendo announcement or endorsement of the September date.

Altec Lansing walked back the September claim

According to contemporary reporting, Altec Lansing subsequently changed the specific September wording to the broader window of fall 2024. The company later told Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier that the date had been a guess.

That clarification substantially weakened the leak interpretation. It does not by itself prove deliberate deception. The statement could have reflected a speculative internal target, a misunderstanding, an optimistic marketing estimate or a poorly worded release. What it does show is that Altec Lansing was not standing behind September as confirmed Nintendo information.

Nintendo announced the real release date

Nintendo’s own announcements settled the question:

Date What Nintendo said
January 16, 2025 Nintendo announced the Switch successor and said it would launch in 2025. Nintendo’s announcement did not yet give a day.
April 2, 2025 Nintendo confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 would launch on June 5, 2025. The U.S. launch MSRP was $449.99. See the corporate release and Nintendo of America announcement.

June 5, 2025 was roughly nine months after the alleged September 2024 date. The console has therefore already launched; the old “upcoming console” wording describes the rumor’s 2024 context, not the present status.

Was September 2024 ever officially confirmed?

No. The documented sequence is:

  1. A January 2024 Ai Shark announcement was reported as associating Switch 2 with September 2024.
  2. Coverage treated that wording as a possible accidental reveal.
  3. Altec Lansing broadened the timing to fall 2024.
  4. The company later said it was guessing.
  5. Nintendo announced the actual launch date as June 5, 2025.

The accurate description is an unverified rumor, estimate or misstatement—not a successful Nintendo leak.

What Ai Shark was—and what remains unproven

Calling the product simply “GameShark” obscures the announcement’s intent. Ai Shark was described as a rebranded or successor project focused on AI-generated hints and gameplay assistance rather than the cheat hardware historically associated with GameShark.

The announcement also outlined ambitious software, chipset and peripheral plans. Those plans do not prove that a finished Ai Shark product shipped with Switch 2, that it was bundled with the console or that Nintendo licensed the technology. The available announcements establish the proposal and the Altec Lansing relationship, but not a confirmed Switch 2 launch-day product, current price or present availability.

  1. First-party hardware announcement: Nintendo’s statement is definitive for a launch date.
  2. Company press release: evidence of what that company claims, not proof of Nintendo’s schedule.
  3. Clarification or retraction: essential for judging whether an earlier claim remains credible.
  4. Secondary reports and social posts: useful for chronology and reaction, but not independent confirmation.

A partner can be planning around a likely window without knowing the final date. Treating every partner estimate as confidential platform information turns ordinary business planning into a false leak.

The verdict

GameShark did not accidentally reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. The Ai Shark announcement produced a plausible-looking September 2024 rumor, but Altec Lansing later downgraded it to a fall estimate and described it as a guess. Nintendo’s official date was June 5, 2025, so the alleged leak was incorrect.
