AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.5.2 was a WHQL Windows driver released ahead of Diablo IV in May 2023. It added launch support for the game and reported an average twofold increase in Stable Diffusion 1.5 throughput—but only in AMD’s specific Microsoft Olive Optimized DirectML test on a Radeon RX 7900 XTX. It is now an archived driver, not a general recommendation for current PCs.
What Adrenalin 23.5.2 was
AMD released Adrenalin Edition 23.5.2 as a WHQL-certified Recommended driver before Diablo IV launched on June 6, 2023. The package version was 22.40.57.05; its Windows Driver Store version was 31.0.14057.5006. AMD listed support for 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 and later, and Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, subject to product-specific limits. The complete release notes are on AMD’s release-note page.
Because newer drivers have replaced it, 23.5.2 should be treated as a historical version. Use AMD’s current driver selector unless you are reproducing a 2023 test, investigating a regression, maintaining a legacy software environment, or matching a period-correct game setup.
What “Diablo IV support” means
Diablo IV appeared in AMD’s “Support for” list. That indicates a driver-level game profile and launch optimization; it does not include the game, promise a fixed frame-rate increase, or guarantee identical results on every Radeon card.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence

- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
Actual performance depends on the GPU and CPU, resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing settings, shader compilation, display configuration, and the game’s own updates. AMD did not publish a specific Diablo IV FPS benchmark in these release notes, so claims such as “23.5.2 makes the game 10% faster” are not supported by this release document.
What AMD’s “2x” Stable Diffusion result actually measured
AMD reported an average 2x increase in images generated per minute when comparing Adrenalin 23.5.2 with 23.5.1. The workload was Microsoft Olive Optimized DirectML Stable Diffusion 1.5, running at 512×512 resolution on an RX 7900 XTX.
| Test item | AMD’s stated configuration |
|---|---|
| Graphics card | Radeon RX 7900 XTX |
| Driver comparison | Adrenalin 23.5.2 versus 23.5.1 |
| Software pipeline | Microsoft Olive Optimized DirectML Stable Diffusion 1.5 |
| Measured output | Average images generated per minute |
| Image size | 512×512 |
| Test platform | Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5-6000, ASUS ROG X670E Hero, AMD Smart Access Memory, Windows 11 Pro 2022 Update |
“2x” therefore means approximately twice the measured throughput in that test. It does not mean twice the FPS, half the latency for every image, or twice the speed for every Radeon card and Stable Diffusion interface. AMD says performance varies with system configuration.

Why Olive and DirectML matter
DirectML is Microsoft’s machine-learning acceleration layer for DirectX-compatible hardware. Microsoft Olive is an optimization toolchain that transforms models for deployment. AMD’s claim concerns that optimized Olive/DirectML path—not every Stable Diffusion installation.
A different backend, such as a Vulkan implementation, ROCm setup, CUDA-oriented workflow, or an unoptimized DirectML frontend, may behave differently. Resolution, checkpoint, sampler, sampling steps, batch size, VAE, upscaling, Windows build, and Olive conversion settings can all change throughput. The release page does not provide every pipeline and model-conversion parameter needed to reproduce the result exactly.

Known issues in 23.5.2
AMD’s release notes listed the following issues; they were possibilities, not claims that every system would experience them:
- Some RX 7000-series systems with high-resolution, high-refresh-rate displays could show unusually high idle power.
- Some RX 7000-series systems could have suboptimal performance or intermittent stutter in certain VR games and applications.
- RuneScape could intermittently crash on some products, including the RX 5700 XT.
- DaVinci Resolve Studio could crash or time out during AV1 playback.
- Switching windows during Nioh 2 could produce intermittent corruption on some products, including the RX 6800 XT.
- Certain hybrid-graphics laptops, including systems with the Ryzen 9 7945HX, could crash or freeze after installation.
For affected hybrid-graphics laptops, AMD recommended reverting to Adrenalin 23.4.3 or using the latest available OEM driver.
