Yes—Halo is now on PlayStation 5. Microsoft and Halo Studios released Halo: Campaign Evolved on July 28, 2026, making it the first mainline Halo release officially brought to a PlayStation console. It is a rebuilt remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, not the entire Halo catalog and not a new version of Halo Infinite.
The original October 2025 announcement said Microsoft was bringing Halo to PS5 in 2026; that wording is now outdated because the game is already available. The release launched simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, Xbox Cloud Gaming and supported gaming handhelds.
What exactly came to PlayStation 5?
Halo: Campaign Evolved reconstructs the original Master Chief campaign with modern technology, presentation and gameplay systems. Xbox describes it as a faithful but modernized remake rebuilt from the ground up, rather than a simple resolution or texture upgrade. The project uses Unreal Engine 5 and retains the identity of the 2001 adventure while changing how it looks and plays.
The remake includes the original campaign plus:
- Updated visuals, cinematics, animation, music and controls
- Revised level design
- Expanded weapons and vehicles
- New enemy types
- Skulls, including randomized modifiers that can change weapons, enemies, environments or interface behavior
- Three new missions in the Operation: METEORITE story arc, set before the original game and featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson
Those changes make “remake” the more accurate description. A remaster generally preserves the original game while improving resolution, audio or performance; Campaign Evolved reconstructs the campaign and adds story content while aiming to preserve its core experience. Details are outlined on the official Xbox game page.

When did Halo: Campaign Evolved launch?
The global launch was July 28, 2026. Premium Edition and Collector’s Edition owners received early access beginning July 23. Xbox listed the global launch time as 8 a.m. PDT on July 28, with Japan and selected Asia-Pacific markets receiving the release on July 29. Xbox confirmed the game was out on launch day in its release announcement.
What can PS5 players actually play?
Campaign formats
The PS5 version supports single-player play, two-player local couch co-op and up to four-player online campaign co-op. The local and online limits are separate: two people can play together on one console, while online sessions can include up to four players.
Cross-play and cross-progression
Xbox confirms cross-play and cross-progression among PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam. That means a PS5 player can join campaign sessions with friends on Xbox or PC, and supported progress can follow the player between those platforms. The announcement does not provide a complete account-linking or save-transfer troubleshooting guide, nor does it establish that PlayStation trophies and Xbox achievements are interchangeable. Platform-specific graphics settings and performance options may also differ.
Campaign co-op is not the same as competitive multiplayer
Campaign Evolved has online multiplayer in the sense that its cooperative campaign supports multiple players. However, the reviewed official materials and launch coverage describe a campaign-focused release, not a separate competitive multiplayer suite comparable to Halo Infinite. Readers looking specifically for arena matches or a standalone competitive mode should not assume this remake provides them.
Which platforms received the game?
| Platform | Availability |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Released July 28, 2026 |
| Xbox Series X|S | Released July 28, 2026 |
| Windows PC | Xbox PC release |
| Steam | Released July 28, 2026 |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Supported |
| Supported gaming handhelds | Xbox-branded or Windows handhelds identified by Xbox |
| PlayStation 4 | Not identified in the official materials reviewed |
The PlayStation announcement specifically identifies PS5. There is no basis here to describe the game as a PS4 release.
Is Halo: Campaign Evolved included with Game Pass?
Xbox announced day-one availability for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, with access through the Xbox, PC and cloud ecosystems. That subscription availability does not automatically grant the PS5 edition. A PS5 owner should expect to purchase the PlayStation version unless Sony and Microsoft announce a separate arrangement.
The Game Pass listing is documented in Xbox’s July 2026 update. The reviewed sources do not confirm PlayStation Plus inclusion.
What does it cost?
Xbox’s U.S. store provides these price signals:
| Edition | U.S. price signal | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $49.99 on the Xbox U.S. store | Base game |
| Premium Edition | $69.99 on the Xbox U.S. store | Base game plus announced digital extras, including the Digital Story & Art Collection and Alpha Halo Armory Pack |
| Collector’s Edition | $199.99 suggested retail price | Premium content plus physical collector items and a game disc |
These are U.S. figures from Xbox, not a confirmed current PlayStation Store price. Regional pricing, taxes, promotions and physical-versus-digital formats can change the amount. Check the live PS5 listing before buying; do not assume the Xbox price is identical.

Collector’s Edition details
The Collector’s Edition includes a 12-inch Dark Horse Master Chief statue, a light-up Cortana chip, SteelBook, concept-art prints, a physical reimagined manual and a game disc for Xbox Series X or PS5. The Steam edition uses a code instead of a disc. Xbox’s announcement has the complete edition and preorder details.
Is this the first Halo game on PlayStation?
It is the first mainline Halo release officially brought to a PlayStation console. That distinction matters because Halo has historically been one of Xbox’s defining console franchises. It is safer to say “the first mainline Halo title on PlayStation” than to claim that no Halo-related material of any kind has ever appeared on a Sony platform.
The release does not mean that Halo Infinite, Halo: The Master Chief Collection or every other Halo game is now available on PS5. It also does not establish a guarantee that every future Halo release will launch on PlayStation. It does, however, end Halo’s practical status as an Xbox-only console franchise for this release and demonstrates Microsoft’s willingness to sell a flagship series beyond Xbox hardware.
Should a PS5 owner buy it?
It makes sense if you:
- Want to play the classic campaign without buying an Xbox
- Prefer the PS5 ecosystem or DualSense controls
- Want campaign co-op with friends on Xbox or PC
- Value modern presentation, redesigned content and cross-progression
You may want to wait or skip if you:
- Mainly want competitive multiplayer
- Already own a version of Combat Evolved or the campaign in The Master Chief Collection and do not need the remake’s additions
- Prefer the original game’s exact visuals and level design
- Want the entire Halo series rather than one rebuilt campaign
The Standard Edition is the straightforward choice for the campaign and co-op. Premium is aimed at fans who value its digital extras, while Collector’s is primarily a merchandise purchase for dedicated collectors. Buying an Xbox solely for this game is difficult to justify for an existing PS5 owner because the title itself is available on PS5; Xbox or PC becomes more compelling when Game Pass and the wider catalog are part of the decision.

What this release does—and does not—say about Xbox exclusives
Microsoft’s PS5 launch is a significant platform strategy decision, not proof that every Xbox game will follow. The evidence supports a narrow conclusion: Halo: Campaign Evolved is available on PS5, with cross-play and cross-progression across the announced platforms. Broader claims about all future Halo games or a permanent company-wide policy remain unconfirmed.
