Searching for games such as Halo Infinite or Fortnite could surface an Xbox game card that routed users into the browser-based cloud-gaming flow.
This was a shortcut, not a guaranteed one-click launch. The Bing button opened the Xbox Store listing, where a second Play button, sign-in, and the required game entitlement were still necessary. The original rollout was not confirmed for every Bing user, and current sources do not establish that the same Bing card remains broadly available in 2026.
What Bing changed in 2022
Previously, a Bing search for an Xbox game generally returned the title, web pages, Xbox Store information, or a conventional link to Xbox Cloud Gaming. The reported integration added an actionable Play control to a prominent game result for selected cloud-enabled titles.
Thurrott reported the behavior on October 11, 2022, after users had noticed the feature in the preceding days. The report used Halo Infinite and Fortnite as examples; it did not say that every Xbox game received the control. (Thurrott report)

It was a route into Cloud Gaming, not an instant stream
The observed sequence had two Play buttons and an Xbox Store page between Bing and the game session:
- Open Bing in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
- Search for a game supported by Xbox Cloud Gaming, such as Halo Infinite or Fortnite.
- Find the Xbox game card near the top of the results.
- Select its Play button.
- Follow the link to the Xbox Store listing.
- Select the Store page’s second Play button.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account and satisfy the game’s subscription or ownership requirement.
- Start the cloud session in the browser.
In other words, Bing acted as discovery and routing layer. Xbox still handled authentication, entitlement checks, and the actual stream. Calling it a shortcut into Xbox Cloud Gaming is more accurate than calling it a completely seamless one-click launch.
What users needed at the time
| Requirement | 2022 context | Why it mattered |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft account | Required to start the session | The result card could reportedly appear while signed out, but play required authentication. |
| Game Pass plan | Thurrott identified active Game Pass Ultimate | The account needed the entitlement associated with the cloud-playable title. |
| Browser | Observed in Edge and Chrome | The testing did not establish universal compatibility across every browser. |
| Cloud-enabled game | Examples included Halo Infinite and Fortnite | A Bing Play control was not promised for every Xbox title. |
| Connection and input | Supported controller or input method and adequate internet access | Streaming quality depends on latency, bandwidth, device performance, and server capacity. |
A console was not inherently required. Xbox Cloud Gaming is designed to stream games to supported internet-connected PCs, phones, tablets, consoles, selected TVs, and other supported hardware. Microsoft’s current access guidance is available at Xbox Wire.

Historical and current subscription rules are different
The 2022 Bing report specifically named Game Pass Ultimate. That should not be presented as the current plan rule without a date attached.
Microsoft’s December 2025 guide describes cloud gaming as included with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans, with catalog, region, and feature differences. The current Xbox pages also describe selected free-to-play access: games such as Fortnite may be streamable with a free Microsoft account, while many other titles require an eligible Game Pass plan. Check the live terms at Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass before subscribing.
Why the Play button might not appear
The 2022 report said it was unclear whether the integration had reached all Bing users. A missing button therefore was not proof that a user had misconfigured anything. Possible explanations include:

- ADJUSTABLE-TENSION THUMBSTICKS — Fine-tune your aim with thumbsticks that let you adjust resistance for improved accuracy, consistency, and control in every match.

- SAVE AND SWITCH PROFILES — Save up to 3 custom profiles on the controller and switch between them on the fly with the dedicated Profile button. Even pick which color the XBOX button lights up as.
- A staged or regional rollout.
- A title without Xbox Cloud Gaming support in that market.
- Different treatment for a signed-in Bing account or browser.
- A game removed from the cloud catalog or unavailable under the account’s plan.
- A Store listing that requires a purchase or separate ownership entitlement.
- A changed, retired, or replaced Bing result template.
If you want to play now
The original Bing integration is a historical 2022 report, not a current Microsoft-wide guarantee. For a dependable route, open xbox.com/play, sign in, and check the title’s cloud-play eligibility.
- Confirm that Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in your region and on your device.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the relevant Game Pass or game entitlement.
- Search the cloud catalog for the exact title.
- Check whether the game is included with your plan, available as a free-to-play title, or requires ownership.
- Use a supported browser and controller or other supported input.
- If the session is slow or queued, test your network and try again later; Microsoft notes that server availability and wait times can vary.
Microsoft says game catalogs, features, supported regions, and availability can change. A Game Pass subscription does not make every Xbox title streamable, and buying an Xbox game does not automatically make it available through the cloud.

Why the integration mattered
The Bing card connected game discovery with play more tightly than a normal search result. It could reduce the steps between finding a title and trying it, expose Xbox Cloud Gaming to people who did not own a console, and place Game Pass eligibility in a mainstream search journey.

Those are strategic implications of the observed design, not a published Microsoft claim that this specific Bing rollout would remain permanent. The reviewed sources include no matching official announcement establishing that the original Bing card is still broadly active in August 2026.

Microsoft has also used Bing for searching Xbox content, web pages, games, media, and apps from the console. That older Bing-on-Xbox product is distinct from the 2022 Bing.com result card and does not prove that the cloud-game shortcut remains available. (Microsoft Bing blog)
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Bing launch Xbox games with one click?
No. The reported flow opened an Xbox Store listing first, where users selected a second Play button before signing in and starting the cloud session.

Not necessarily. The October 2022 report said availability for all Bing users was unclear, and current sources do not confirm universal availability.
Is Game Pass Ultimate still required for Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Ultimate was the requirement identified in the 2022 report. Microsoft’s newer guidance describes cloud gaming across Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans, while selected free-to-play games can be available with a free Microsoft account; check current regional and title-specific terms.
