Sony permanently lowered the U.S. recommended price of PlayStation VR2 in March 2025: the headset and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle each moved to $399.99. The bundle includes a digital copy of the game, so it is the stronger buy when both packages are available at the same price. The new price is not a standalone system price: console use requires a PS5.
PS VR2’s new U.S. prices
Sony announced the recommended-price change on February 27, 2025, with the new prices scheduled to take effect in March. The launch prices below were announced in November 2022, before PS VR2’s February 22, 2023 release.
| Package | U.S. launch MSRP | Revised U.S. MSRP | Reduction | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation VR2 | $549.99 | $399.99 | $150, about 27.3% | Headset, two PS VR2 Sense controllers, stereo headphones and setup materials |
| PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle | $599.99 | $399.99 | $200, about 33.3% | Same hardware, plus a digital voucher for Horizon Call of the Mountain |
The reduction percentages are calculated from Sony’s published launch and revised U.S. recommended prices. Sony says timing and bundle availability can vary by region, so these dollar amounts should not be applied to other markets. Its February 2025 announcement listed revised prices of $399.99 in the U.S., €449.99, £399.99 and ¥66,980; local taxes, availability and retail timing may differ. See Sony’s launch-price announcement and Sony’s revised-price announcement.
Why the Horizon bundle stands out
At equal $399.99 U.S. recommended prices, the Horizon bundle adds the game voucher without raising the listed price. It is the better package for a new buyer who wants the game and can redeem a voucher valid for their PlayStation Store region. Confirm that a listing is new and that the voucher is included and unused; open-box or used packages may not have a redeemable code. The standard package is more sensible if it is meaningfully cheaper in a sale or you already own the game.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is one possible entry point, not the only reason to buy the headset. PS VR2’s catalog also includes games such as Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil 4 VR Mode, Resident Evil Village, No Man’s Sky, Beat Saber, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2. Permanent price change or temporary sale?
The March 2025 change was a reduction in Sony’s recommended retail price, not a one-weekend promotion. The revised U.S. MSRP is $399.99 for either package. A lower listing can still be a separate Sony promotion, retailer discount or clearance offer; it does not by itself establish another permanent price cut.
For example, Sony separately advertised $100 off PS VR2 during Days of Play 2026. That promotion is distinct from the 2025 MSRP reduction, and promotional dates, stock and retailer prices vary by region. Check Sony’s Days of Play 2026 announcement and U.S. PS VR2 page for their stated offers and product information. The $399.99 figure is Sony’s revised U.S. recommended price, not a guarantee of what every retailer currently charges.

What you need to use PS VR2
For PlayStation VR
A PS5 is required for the main console experience. PS VR2 does not work with PS4, and it does not generally play the original PS VR game library. Existing PS VR owners should check game-specific compatibility rather than assume past purchases transfer. The headset is therefore not a complete VR system for someone who does not already own a PS5.
The standard package contains the headset, left and right PS VR2 Sense controllers, a USB cable for controller pairing and charging, stereo headphones, three pairs of earpieces and printed materials. The Horizon bundle adds a digital voucher, not a game disc. See Sony’s product information and games and compatibility FAQ.
For PC VR
PS VR2 can also be used with a compatible Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, but it requires Sony’s PC adapter, a DisplayPort 1.4 cable sold separately, Steam, SteamVR, Sony’s PlayStation VR2 PC application and compatible Bluetooth hardware. Sony announced the adapter at a U.S. estimated retail price of $59.99. At that announced price, the headset plus adapter totals at least $459.98 before tax and before the DisplayPort cable or any required Bluetooth hardware.
PC mode is not feature-equivalent to PS5 use. Sony says HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and most controller haptic feedback are unavailable on PC, while features such as 4K visuals, finger-touch detection and see-through view remain supported. PC support also does not mean every SteamVR game supports every PS VR2 function. Requirements and limitations are in Sony’s PC-adapter announcement.

PS VR2’s hardware includes two OLED displays at 2000 × 2040 pixels per eye, eye tracking, headset feedback, inside-out tracking without external tracking cameras, and Sense controllers with adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and finger-touch detection. Sony describes the PS5 experience as 4K HDR, and its PC support documentation gives an approximately 110-degree field of view. Feature use varies by game, and the PC mode has the limitations above. Sony’s product page and PC-adapter details describe supported hardware features.
Who benefits most from the lower price?
- Existing PS5 owners seeking console VR: The lower headset price makes the entry point more attractive, particularly if games in the PS VR2 catalog appeal to you.
- Buyers choosing between the two new packages: At the same actual price, the Horizon bundle adds a game voucher and is usually the better value.
- PC VR users: The OLED display and Sense controllers may be appealing, but compare the full cost—including adapter and cable—and decide whether the PC feature limitations suit your use.
- Buyers without a PS5: Include the cost of a compatible console; $399.99 buys the headset, not a standalone VR system.
- Owners of original PS VR: Do not buy on the assumption that your existing PS VR games will run on PS VR2.
The lower price improves the hardware’s value proposition; it does not establish a particular future first-party release schedule or guarantee expanded Sony software support.
Buying checks before you pay
- Compare the listing with the $399.99 U.S. recommended price and identify whether the lower amount is a limited promotion, retailer discount or clearance offer.
- Check whether the listing is for the standard headset or Horizon bundle, and whether the voucher is present, unused and valid in your store region.
- For PC use, add the adapter, DisplayPort 1.4 cable and any needed Bluetooth hardware to your budget before comparing alternatives.
- For a used headset, inspect the lenses and both Sense controllers, and verify the USB cable, ear tips and voucher status.
For current U.S. product availability, Sony’s PS VR2 purchasing page is the official listing; the price and stock there may differ from other retailers.
