Microsoft’s Xbox Spring Sale began on April 7, 2023, and its main promotion ended April 20, 2023. The historical Microsoft Store event covered selected Xbox and PC games, DLC, consoles, controllers, movies, television, apps and Surface hardware. It is not a live 2026 offer: the listed prices, discounts and deadlines belong to the 2023 promotion.
Microsoft’s official announcement advertised up to 60% off selected Xbox digital games, while contemporaneous coverage from Thurrott reported discounts as high as 67% across approximately 700 Xbox games and DLC items. Those figures describe different reporting scopes and should not be merged into one Microsoft claim.

What launched on April 7, 2023?
The Xbox Spring Sale was the gaming-focused part of Microsoft’s broader Spring Sale. Microsoft described hundreds of selected Xbox digital games and DLC, alongside PC games and non-gaming products in the Microsoft Store. Offers were subject to market, timing, price, tax, shipping and availability restrictions, as explained in the official Xbox announcement.
How large were the Xbox discounts?
| Claim | What it means | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 60% off | Microsoft’s official maximum for selected Xbox digital games | Microsoft/Xbox Wire |
| Up to 67% off, about 700 games and DLC | A broader scale and maximum reported by contemporaneous coverage, not Microsoft’s exact headline wording | Thurrott |
“Up to” describes the best qualifying discount, not the typical reduction across the catalog. The sale applied only to selected editions, platforms and regions.
#1 Best Overall

- USE FOR GAMES & CONTENT — Redeem for thousands of digital XBOX games, from backward compatible classics to the latest new releases, plus DLC and in‑game currency.
- GAME PASS READY — Apply your balance toward XBOX Game Pass Ultimate to play new titles on day one* and access a library of hundreds of high‑quality console games.
- PRE‑ORDER & PRE‑INSTALL GAMES — Use your balance to pre‑order and pre‑download upcoming titles so you’re ready to play the moment they launch.
- NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.
Featured games and DLC
Examples highlighted in coverage included Destiny 2: Lightfall, the Dead Space remake, The Witcher 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and NBA 2K23. Microsoft separately featured One Piece Odyssey Deluxe Edition, Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition and NBA 2K23. These were examples rather than a complete catalog.
The Forza Horizon 5 add-on calculation
Thurrott reported the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Add-ons Bundle at $20 off. The bundle included the Rally Adventure expansion and the earlier Hot Wheels DLC. Because the base game was available through Game Pass at the time, a subscriber could use the sale to obtain expansions without purchasing another copy of the base game.

What Game Pass changed for buyers
Game Pass was a related consideration, not the sale’s discount mechanism. Before buying a full game, subscribers should check the current catalog on the Game Pass page. Purchasing can still make sense for permanent ownership, continued access if a title leaves the catalog, offline use subject to platform rules, or DLC that complements a subscription copy.
Catalog membership changes, and a 2023 mention does not establish that a game remains included today. DLC and complete editions can also have different ownership requirements.

Consoles, controllers and accessories
The promotion included Xbox hardware. Microsoft listed Xbox Series X bundles such as the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition bundle and the then-upcoming Diablo 4 bundle.
Microsoft’s announcement said selected Xbox controllers were $10 off. Thurrott reported discounts reaching $20 on some models, including black and white Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers. The $20 figure therefore belongs to that contemporaneous report, not the official announcement’s general wording.

The wider Microsoft Store Spring Sale
PC games
Microsoft advertised up to 60% off selected PC games, with Jurassic World Evolution 2, Disney Dreamlight Valley and Roblox among its examples. An Xbox purchase does not automatically provide a Windows copy; verify whether a specific title supports Xbox Play Anywhere or another cross-entitlement.
Movies, television and apps
Selected movies and TV shows were advertised at up to 50% off. Examples included the Harry Potter eight-film collection, Deadpool 2 – Movie Collection, Joker/The Batman 2 – Film Collection, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and the Jordan Peele 3 – Movie Collection. Selected creativity, productivity and entertainment apps were also advertised at up to 50% off, including Dolby Access, Nitrado, Karaoke One, 8 Zip Pro Advanced Archiver and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023.

Surface hardware
Microsoft listed discounts of up to $300 on selected Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9 units, and up to $500 on selected Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 units. Selected Microsoft PC accessories were advertised at up to 33% off.
Deadlines and regional limits
The main sale window was April 7–20, 2023. Product-specific dates differed:
- Selected Xbox controller offers were stated to run through April 22.
- Some Surface offers ended April 16, April 23 or April 30.
Microsoft warned that eligible markets, prices, timing, taxes, shipping and availability could vary. A listing’s end date could also differ from the headline sale deadline.
Checklist before buying a sale listing
- Check Game Pass: Confirm whether the base game is in the reader’s current plan.
- Check the platform: Verify Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC or a cross-platform entitlement.
- Check the edition: Premium, Deluxe, Ultimate and standard versions contain different content.
- Check existing ownership: Avoid paying twice for DLC or bundle components already owned.
- Check the region and date: Confirm the local storefront’s price and expiration time.
- Check account ownership: Xbox digital purchases are tied to the purchasing Microsoft account and remain subject to licensing and compatibility rules.
Is there an Xbox Spring Sale in 2026?
The official Xbox Spring Sale landing page still exists, but the available information does not establish an active 2026 promotion or current prices. For live offers, use Microsoft’s current Store deals page and verify every product listing directly. Do not treat the 2023 figures in this article as current.
