To complete Sir Ansbach’s quest and keep him available as an ally, help him rather than Leda: deliver Freyja’s letter and message, then choose the gold summon sign in Shadow Keep. Do these steps before burning the Sealing Tree at the Church of the Bud. The quest is part of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree; the base game is required.
Before you begin: finish the early steps before burning the Sealing Tree
Ansbach’s storyline links his fate with Needle Knight Leda and Redmane Freyja. Complete the early quest steps below before burning the Sealing Tree at the Church of the Bud. Burning it makes most NPCs and their questlines unavailable, according to the PowerPyx Shadow of the Erdtree guide. If you have already burned it, the early handoff and sign sequence may no longer be accessible in that playthrough.
The expansion was released on June 21, 2024, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam; it requires the Elden Ring base game, according to Bandai Namco and FromSoftware.

What the choice changes
| Choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Gold summon sign: assist Ansbach | Preserves his later summons for the Leda encounter and final boss. |
| Red summon sign: assist Leda | Ansbach dies, and you lose the route that makes him available as an ally later. |
Summon Ansbach in the endgame and collect his rewards
After burning the Sealing Tree, progress through Enir-Ilim. Before the Leda encounter, use Ansbach’s gold sign to summon him. After defeating Leda, speak with Ansbach near the Divine Gate Front Staircase. His gold sign can then be used again for the final boss.
After the final boss, the listed quest rewards are Wise Man’s Mask, Ansbach’s Attire, Ansbach’s Manchettes, Ansbach’s Boots, Obsidian Lamina, and Furious Blade of Ansbach. Freyja’s Golden Lion Shield is obtained earlier during the letter handoff.
Why complete Ansbach’s ally route?
PowerPyx’s June 20, 2024 walkthrough says completing the quest makes it possible to summon Ansbach for the final boss and describes the fight as considerably easier with him. That is a qualitative claim, not a measured damage or time-saving figure; no quest-specific performance statistics are established in the cited sources.
