The game launched on October 25, 2024. At launch, access applied to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass for Console—not every Game Pass tier, and not every storefront.
This is a historical launch announcement. Microsoft’s later Game Pass policy changes for future Call of Duty games do not change the fact that Black Ops 6 received day-one access.
What Microsoft announced
Microsoft’s official announcement confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, published by Activision and developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, would join Game Pass on day one. The announcement came on May 28, 2024, before the June Xbox Games Showcase and the dedicated Black Ops 6 Direct.
The global release date was October 25, 2024. Xbox listed Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and Battle.net as release platforms. Game Pass access applied to the Xbox and Microsoft PC versions; a PlayStation, Steam, or Battle.net purchase remained a separate license.

Microsoft’s announcement was a firm first-party confirmation, not a retailer leak or inference.
Which Game Pass plans included Black Ops 6 at launch?
| Plan | Day-one access on October 25, 2024? | What that meant |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate | Yes | Console and PC access, with cloud play available at launch for Ultimate members. |
| PC Game Pass | Yes | Access to the Microsoft Windows PC version. |
| Game Pass for Console | Yes | Historical 2024 console-plan access. |
| Game Pass Standard | No day-one entitlement | Introduced in September 2024 and explicitly positioned without new releases on day one. |
| Game Pass Core | Not the day-one game-access plan | Primarily an online-console-multiplayer and smaller-catalog plan. |
Activision’s editions and preorder guide identified Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass for Console as the qualifying launch subscriptions. Plan names and benefits have changed since then, so a current subscriber should check Microsoft’s live plan comparison rather than assume a 2024 entitlement still applies unchanged.
What “day one” did—and did not—mean
It meant play on the release date
Subscribers with an eligible plan could download and play the included game on October 25, 2024, rather than waiting for a later catalog addition. Access covered the included Black Ops 6 game package while the subscription and catalog entitlement remained active.

It did not mean ownership
Game Pass is a subscription license, not a permanent copy. If the subscription ends or the game leaves the catalog, continued play may require resubscribing or buying the game. A retail or digital purchase is independent of Game Pass.
Preorder and premium content requires care
Activision said eligible subscribers could receive the same stated preorder benefits and same-day access associated with relevant digital editions. That does not establish that every Vault Edition item, cosmetic, battle pass, or store bundle was automatically included. Individual offers and later content must be checked separately.
Platforms, storefronts, and entitlements
| Where you play | How Black Ops 6 access worked |
|---|---|
| Xbox One | Supported by the Xbox version, including the Cross-Gen Bundle listing. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Supported by the Xbox version. |
| Windows PC | Available through PC Game Pass and Microsoft’s PC ecosystem. |
| Steam | Retail storefront; a Steam purchase is a separate license from PC Game Pass. |
| Battle.net | Retail storefront; Battle.net ownership does not convert into Game Pass access. |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Available to Ultimate members on supported devices, regions, and titles. |
Xbox’s launch guide lists the release platforms. Installing the Microsoft PC version does not create a Steam or Battle.net license, and owning the game on either of those stores does not unlock the PC Game Pass version.

Cloud gaming details
Xbox announced that Black Ops 6 would be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming for Game Pass Ultimate members from October 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The same announcement covered Modern Warfare III and Warzone.
Cloud play was not a benefit of every Game Pass tier. Xbox warns that supported devices, regions, plans, titles, and features vary. A compatible phone, tablet, browser, smart TV, Fire TV device, or other supported hardware is required, along with a reliable connection. See the current Xbox Cloud Gaming requirements before subscribing specifically for streaming.
Is Game Pass better than buying Black Ops 6?
Game Pass is usually the better fit when you:
- Want to play the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies without paying the full standalone price immediately.
- Already pay for Ultimate or expect to use several other catalog games.
- Play on Xbox or Windows PC and are comfortable with Microsoft’s ecosystem.
- Want Ultimate’s cloud option and have a supported device and dependable broadband.
Buying is usually the better fit when you:
- Want permanent access independent of subscription status or catalog removals.
- Prefer Steam or Battle.net on PC.
- Expect to play for years without using the wider Game Pass catalog.
- Want a physical console copy.
Compare the current regional subscription and game prices before deciding. A subscription can be economical for a short campaign or broad catalog use; ownership can cost less over a long play period if you do not need other Game Pass benefits.

Common questions and edge cases
Can I play day one with Game Pass Standard?
Not under the 2024 launch terms. Microsoft introduced Standard as a plan without new day-one releases. Check the current Xbox plan page and the live store listing for present eligibility.
Does a PlayStation purchase give me Game Pass access?
No. PlayStation availability and Xbox Game Pass are separate platform entitlements.
Can I install the Game Pass PC version through Steam?
No. PC Game Pass access is tied to Microsoft’s PC application and account ecosystem. Steam and Battle.net purchases are separate.

Do I keep the game after canceling?
No. You retain access only while the applicable subscription and catalog entitlement are active, unless you separately purchase the game.
Do Call of Duty Points and purchases transfer between platforms?
Not universally. Activision warns that Call of Duty Points and real-money purchases are not shared across different console or PC accounts. Details are in Activision’s cloud-gaming support article.
What changed for future Call of Duty releases?
Microsoft’s 2026 Game Pass update said future Call of Duty games would no longer be promised for day-one inclusion in Ultimate or PC Game Pass, instead arriving around the following holiday period. That policy concerns future releases. It does not retroactively remove Black Ops 6 from the day-one history or change the launch terms that applied in October 2024.
For the later announcement, see Microsoft’s official 2026 Game Pass policy update. Current catalog availability can still vary by region, platform, plan, and time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 genuinely debuted on Xbox Game Pass on October 25, 2024. The launch offer covered Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass for Console, with cloud streaming reserved for Ultimate members. It provided subscription access rather than ownership, and Steam, Battle.net, PlayStation, and physical copies remained separate purchase paths. Treat the announcement as a 2024 launch fact—not a guarantee that every future Call of Duty game will follow the same Game Pass strategy.
