1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—most supported Chromebooks can run Among Us through the official Android app in Google Play. Your Chromebook must support Android apps, have the Play Store enabled, and not be restricted by a school or work administrator. The former Steam-for-Chromebook beta ended on January 1, 2026, so Google Play is now the straightforward official route.
Can Among Us run on your Chromebook?
Compatibility is model-specific rather than universal. Google lists the official Among Us Android app for Chromebook on Google Play, while Chromium maintains a model-by-model list of ChromeOS devices that support Android apps.
Before installing, check these conditions:
- Your Chromebook has Google Play Store under Settings → Apps.
- The exact model appears on Google’s Android-app compatibility list.
- The device runs standard ChromeOS, not ChromeOS Flex or another unsupported operating system.
- A school or employer has not disabled Play Store access or app installation.
- The Chromebook still receives ChromeOS and Android-app updates.
A recent release year or “Chromebook Plus” branding does not guarantee compatibility. If the Play Store marks the app as unavailable, use the exact model check rather than relying on the brand or age of the device.
To check whether an older Chromebook is still supported, open Settings → About ChromeOS → Additional details and review its Auto Update Expiration information, following Google’s support instructions.

What you need before installing
- A supported Chromebook with Google Play enabled.
- A Google account allowed to install Android apps.
- A reliable internet connection.
- Enough local storage for the app and its updates.
- Current ChromeOS software.
- A touchscreen, mouse, or trackpad. A touchscreen is optional, but a mouse or trackpad is often more comfortable on a laptop.
- A microphone or separate voice-chat solution if you want to talk with friends.
Update ChromeOS first by opening Settings → About ChromeOS → Check for updates. Google documents this process at its Chromebook update page. Innersloth publishes additional compatibility guidance, but Google Play makes the final app-eligibility decision for your model and software build: Innersloth compatibility guidance.
How to install Among Us from Google Play
- Turn on the Chromebook and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open the Launcher.
- Select Google Play Store.
- Search for Among Us.
- Choose the listing published by Innersloth LLC. The official package is
com.innersloth.spacemafia; use that identifier to distinguish the listing from unofficial downloads. - Select Install and wait for the download to finish.
- Open the game from the Launcher.
- Complete any update, then sign in or create/link an Among Us account if the current build requests it.
Google’s general Android-app instructions for Chromebooks are available at support.google.com/chromebook/answer/7021273. Do not download an APK from a third-party site when the Play Store route fails; modified or pirated packages can contain malware, lose updates, or violate device policies.
Set up your first game
Menus can change with updates, but the current official description includes online multiplayer, local Wi-Fi play, text chat, multiple maps, Classic, and Hide n Seek modes. On first launch, follow the prompts to choose a display name and review age, chat, and account settings.

- Storage: 16GB Flash Memory

- Screen Size: 11.6"
Play online or locally
- Choose Online to join or host an internet lobby.
- Choose Local when players are on the same Wi-Fi network and the option is available.
- For friends, create a private room and share its code instead of relying on a public lobby.
The official game supports 4–15 players and cross-platform multiplayer with PC, console, Android, and iOS players. See the official game page and Steam listing for the current platform and mode descriptions.
Controls on a Chromebook
The Play Store version is the mobile Android edition, not automatically the same input experience as the desktop Steam edition.
- Touchscreen: use the game’s touch controls if your Chromebook has a touchscreen.
- Mouse or trackpad: usually suits laptop play better than reaching across the screen.
- Keyboard: test it on your current ChromeOS and app versions rather than assuming desktop WASD controls. If movement keys do nothing, switch to the touch or joystick option in the game’s controls.
If clicks do not register correctly, try a physical mouse, change the control scheme, restart the app, or run it in a maximized or resizable window. ChromeOS accessibility features that convert keystrokes to mouse clicks may help in some cases, but they do not add native keyboard support to the Android build.

Fix a missing Play Store
Open Settings → Apps. If Google Play Store is not listed, work through these checks:
- Confirm that the exact Chromebook model supports Android apps using Google’s compatibility list.
- Install any pending ChromeOS update and restart.
- Check whether the device runs ChromeOS Flex; Play Store availability is not equivalent to standard Chromebook ChromeOS.
- Determine whether the Chromebook is managed by a school or employer.
On managed devices, administrators can hide the Play Store, block installations, filter game traffic, or restrict multiplayer and voice services. Contact the administrator; do not use Developer Mode, APK sideloading, or other methods to bypass policy.

- Check the exact model against Google’s Android-app list.
- If a damaged previous installation exists, uninstall Among Us and reinstall the official listing.
- If a supported model still fails, contact Innersloth through its current support channels.
Changing the device region, clearing Play Store data, or sideloading an APK is not a guaranteed fix and can create additional account or security problems.
When the game crashes, freezes, or performs poorly
- Close unnecessary browser tabs and Android apps.
- Restart ChromeOS.
- Update both ChromeOS and Among Us.
- Lower in-game graphics settings when available.
- Reduce display resolution if frame rate or input response is poor.
- Use stable Wi-Fi and avoid playing while the Chromebook is overheating or heavily throttled.
- Reinstall the official app if its files may be corrupted.
Google’s Chromebook gaming guidance recommends closing other windows and reducing resolution or graphics settings: Google’s gaming guidance. Low-end or older devices can still show stutter, input delay, or missing updates; ARM and Intel/AMD models may behave differently. School networks can also block matchmaking, voice services, or game traffic.

You can play with friends on PC, consoles, Android, and iOS because Among Us supports cross-platform multiplayer. That does not guarantee identical transfer of saves, purchases, cosmetics, or every account feature between Google Play, Steam, console, and iOS. If linking or entitlement transfer fails, use Innersloth’s current account and compatibility support rather than assuming a purchase will carry over.

What happened to Steam on Chromebook?
Older guides often tell readers to search the Chromebook Launcher for a Steam installer. Those instructions belonged to Google’s Steam-for-Chromebook beta. Google’s archived page still describes the beta and lists Among Us among games that performed well, but Google support-community notices report that Google and Valve ended the program on January 1, 2026. Games installed through that beta were no longer playable afterward.
Do not buy the Steam edition specifically for native ChromeOS beta support. The Steam listing remains useful for Windows, Steam Deck, and other supported desktop platforms, but it is not a current official Chromebook installation path.
Advanced users may find community methods for installing Steam inside the Linux environment or using compatibility layers. These are unofficial and unsupported: they can require substantial storage, fail on ARM Chromebooks, and produce problems with graphics, sound, input, launches, or updates. They are experiments, not an equivalent replacement for the discontinued beta.
Alternatives when your Chromebook cannot run the Android app
| Method | Best for | Advantages | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android phone or tablet | Unsupported or restricted Chromebooks | Official mobile platform | Smaller screen or different controls |
| Streaming from an existing gaming PC | Players who already own a capable computer | The Chromebook does little local rendering | Requires another computer, suitable streaming software, and a strong network |
| Cloud gaming | Players without a gaming PC | Runs through a browser or supported app | Catalog, subscription, region, account, and latency requirements vary; verify current Among Us support before subscribing |
| Unofficial Linux/compatibility setup | Experienced hobbyists | May work on some x86 devices | Unsupported, complicated, inconsistent, and a poor fit for most users |
Services such as GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and Steam Link have different catalogs and requirements. Check current availability in your country and for your account before treating any as a guaranteed solution.
