HP no longer positions Pavilion Gaming as its current gaming-laptop line. In the United States, HP’s gaming range is centered on Victus and OMEN; HP documentation identifies Victus as the midrange line introduced to replace Pavilion Gaming. For a new purchase, target a Victus 15 with an RTX 4050, 16GB of RAM, an SSD and a 144Hz 1080p screen. Consider a used Pavilion only when it has an RTX 3050 or better, 16GB memory, sound hinges and a price well below a comparable new Victus.
Is HP Pavilion Gaming still sold in 2026?
Pavilion Gaming is a legacy product family. HP’s current U.S. gaming store emphasizes Victus and OMEN, while Pavilion support pages remain online for existing owners. A support page proves that documentation exists; it does not prove that HP still sells that model. HP’s classification guide describes Victus as replacing Pavilion Gaming: HP ECCN Reference Guide.
Regional inventory can differ, but a listing called “Pavilion Gaming” in 2026 should be treated as old stock, refurbished inventory or a used laptop unless the seller clearly identifies a current product and warranty.

HP’s portable-gaming guide lists a Victus 15-fa2047nr with a Core i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and RTX 4050 at $1,399.99. That is an HP-published price signal, not a permanent street price; retailer promotions can be substantially lower. Check the exact product number at HP’s product page before buying.
Why RTX 4050 is the sensible baseline
- It is a newer platform than GTX 1650 and RTX 3050 models.
- 6GB of VRAM gives more headroom than the 4GB found in many RTX 3050 Pavilions.
- It suits 1080p gaming with sensible quality settings and upscaling in demanding games.
- 16GB memory and a 144Hz panel avoid two common entry-level compromises.
Do not assume every RTX 4050 performs identically. HP publishes model-specific graphics power information for Victus and OMEN systems; check the exact configuration at HP’s performance specifications.
When a Victus RTX 4060 or OMEN makes sense
Victus with RTX 4060
Choose an RTX 4060 Victus when the price premium over RTX 4050 is modest, you want higher settings, or you expect to keep the laptop through more demanding games. Prefer an 8GB configuration, 16GB RAM, a 1080p or sensible 1600p panel and documented GPU power. A higher GPU tier is more valuable for gaming than moving between similar H-series processors.

- Features a spacious Up to 2TB Solid State Drive for quick data access and storage.
- Boasts a vibrant 15.6" FHD IPS Micro-Edge Anti-Glare 144Hz Display for immersive gaming experiences.
OMEN
OMEN is HP’s premium path: stronger GPU options, more upscale designs, higher-end displays and, on some models, more robust cooling. HP’s guide lists OMEN Transcend 14 with RTX 5050 from $1,999.99 and an OMEN 15 with RTX 5060 from $1,899.99. These are cited HP price signals, not guaranteed sale prices. OMEN is difficult to justify for basic esports gaming when a much cheaper Victus handles 1080p well.

Judge the hardware, not the family name. An acceptable used Pavilion should normally include:
- 10th- or 11th-generation Core i5/i7 H-series, or Ryzen 5 5600H/Ryzen 7 5800H.
- GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 3050 or RTX 3050 Ti graphics; GTX 1650 only at a very low price.
- 16GB dual-channel RAM, or an inexpensive upgrade path from 8GB.
- At least a 512GB NVMe SSD and preferably a 144Hz display.
- The correct, high-wattage original adapter.

Specifications to prioritize
GPU and power limit
For gaming, rank GPU tier and its configured power above small CPU differences: RTX 5060 or better, then RTX 4060, RTX 4050, RTX 3050/3050 Ti and finally GTX 1650. Record VRAM and the laptop’s GPU power limit because two laptops carrying the same GPU name can perform differently.
Memory and storage
Make 16GB the minimum recommendation. Eight gigabytes can cause stutter and is acceptable only when a cheap, confirmed upgrade exists. A 512GB SSD is practical; 1TB is preferable for a modern game library. Do not assume a second M.2 slot without checking the exact product number.
Display
A 144Hz label does not establish brightness, color or response time. For RTX 4050-class hardware, 1080p is the sensible resolution. Check nits and color coverage; older Pavilion panels can be dim and narrow-gamut, while newer Victus examples are better but still not creator-grade.

- HP Victus 15.6" Gaming Laptop with FHD, 144Hz refresh rate, IPS micro-edge anti-glare display
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 6GB GDDR6
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 solid-state drive
- Windows 11 Home, 13th Generation Intel Core i5-13420H Processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6 GB GDDR6 dedicated)
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 solid-state drive
Cooling, adapter and battery
Check ventilation, fan behavior, surface temperatures, adapter wattage and whether full performance requires the original charger. Treat gaming as a plugged-in workload. Battery capacity and office endurance matter for classes, but battery operation commonly reduces gaming performance.
Used and refurbished inspection checklist
- Match the listing’s exact product number to HP’s specification page.
- Confirm CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM arrangement, SSD capacity, refresh rate and panel brightness.
- Inspect hinges, lid separation, charging port, rubber feet and vents.
- Check for battery swelling and review battery health in the operating system or HP diagnostics.
- Test the display for dead pixels, flicker and backlight problems.
- Test every USB port, HDMI, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, webcam, keyboard, touchpad and speaker.
- Run a sustained game or GPU load and watch for crashes, grinding fans or severe throttling.
- Check SSD health and confirm the included adapter is genuine and correctly rated.
- Verify the serial number with HP and read the seller’s return, battery and dead-pixel policies.
Price and buying decision
Compare a used Pavilion with the current price of an equivalent Victus, not with its original launch price. A Pavilion is a good deal only when its discount compensates for older graphics, shorter remaining support, battery wear and used-unit risk. If the price gap is small, choose the new Victus for its warranty, return rights and newer RTX 4050 platform. Treat unusually expensive discontinued stock as overpriced scarcity, not premium quality.
Retailer configurations can change the screen, RAM, SSD, GPU power limit and warranty while retaining the same family name. Always buy against the full specification and seller terms. HP’s gaming listings are available at HP’s gaming store; larger Victus and OMEN ranges appear at HP’s gaming-laptop page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is HP Pavilion Gaming discontinued?
HP’s current U.S. gaming lineup is centered on Victus and OMEN, and HP documentation identifies Victus as replacing Pavilion Gaming. Older Pavilion support pages remain available for existing owners.
Is an RTX 3050 Pavilion still worth buying?
Yes, but only with 16GB RAM, an SSD, a healthy battery and a price meaningfully below a new Victus RTX 4050. Its 4GB VRAM limits its appeal for newer games.
Is 8GB RAM enough for a gaming laptop?
It is not the preferred 2026 configuration. Buy 16GB, or verify that the exact laptop has an accessible slot and that upgrading is inexpensive.
Should I buy RTX 4060 instead of RTX 4050?
Choose RTX 4060 when the premium is modest and you want higher settings or more graphics headroom. Compare the exact GPU power limit, display and warranty rather than the GPU name alone.
Can Pavilion Gaming RAM and storage be upgraded?
Many Pavilion models use SO-DIMM memory and support storage upgrades, but layouts vary. Confirm the exact product number before assuming a second slot or M.2 bay exists.
