Verdict: The Corsair Void RGB Elite USB remains a comfortable PC gaming headset with an unusually good boom microphone, breathable ear cushions, RGB lighting, and useful iCUE controls. Its age shows in the permanently attached USB-A cable, lack of 3.5mm or wireless connectivity, weak isolation, sound leakage, bulk, and fit that can be loose on smaller heads.
Buy it only when the current price is clearly below modern midrange alternatives, or when comfort and voice chat matter more than platform flexibility. It is a sensible quiet-room PC or Mac headset, but a poor choice for Xbox, phones, tablets, shared rooms, or anyone wanting one headset for several device types. The model launched at about $79.99 in the United States; that is a historical MSRP, not a verified September 2026 street price.
What exactly is the Corsair Void RGB Elite USB?
This is the wired USB version of Corsair’s 2019 Void RGB Elite family. The carbon model is CA-9011203-NA and the white model is CA-9011204-NA. Do not confuse it with the Void RGB Elite Wireless, Void Elite Surround, Void Pro, or newer Void v2 products. The headset uses USB audio and software-enabled virtual 7.1 rather than physical surround drivers.

Design and long-session comfort
Large earcups, soft foam, breathable microfiber-style mesh and an adjustable headband make the Void RGB Elite USB comfortable for many long gaming sessions. The padding distributes its substantial roughly 390 g weight well, although lightweight-headset shoppers will feel the difference.
Fit is the important qualification. On a smaller head, the earcups can flare outward instead of sealing firmly. That can reduce bass, alter the tonal balance and make the headset move during play. Glasses, hair and preferred clamp force also affect the seal. If you need a tight, compact fit, try it with a return option.
The boom microphone is permanently attached but folds upward when not in use. A red indicator shows mute status around the microphone area. The attached cable cannot be replaced, and the headset cannot operate passively if its USB electronics fail.

Sound quality: enjoyable, but fit-dependent
Default stereo
Independent testing describes the default tuning as somewhat boomy, with reasonably reproduced mids and treble. Bass consistency varies substantially with the earcup seal; a loose fit can make low frequencies sound weaker or less controlled. The advertised 20 Hz–30 kHz range is a specification, not proof of better audible quality.

Games and music
Single-player games benefit from the full earcup presentation and generous soundstage, while voice chat remains easy to follow. Music is listenable, but the bass emphasis and inconsistent seal are less suitable for critical listening than a well-fitted stereo headphone.
Virtual 7.1
iCUE can apply virtual 7.1 processing. It may add spaciousness in some games, but it is an effect rather than a guaranteed competitive advantage. Start with stereo, then compare both modes in the games you actually play; game-native spatial audio can interact differently with headset virtualization.

Microphone: the strongest reason to buy
The omnidirectional boom is the headset’s clearest strength. Tom’s Hardware described the updated, Discord-certified microphone as unusually clear and full-bodied for a gaming headset, making it strong for Discord and in-game chat. RTINGS also reported some distortion, so it is not a studio microphone and will not be flawless in every condition. See the Tom’s Hardware review for the original evaluation.
Raise the boom to mute or use the physical control, and check the indicator before speaking. If your voice is quiet, verify that the operating system and Discord selected the Void microphone, the boom is positioned near your mouth, mute is off, and input gain or automatic gain control is not reducing the level. Reports of quiet microphones exist among owners, but they do not establish a universal defect.

What iCUE adds
- Preset audio profiles and a custom graphic EQ
- Virtual 7.1 control
- Microphone sidetone (hearing your own voice)
- RGB lighting effects and synchronization with compatible Corsair devices
- Per-profile configuration for users who want separate game settings
Basic USB audio does not require you to use every feature, but iCUE is where most customization lives. It is a benefit if you already use Corsair peripherals and a burden if you prefer plug-and-play hardware. Tom’s Hardware documented historical profile and firmware problems with other Corsair products, although no comparable issue occurred during its Void RGB Elite USB review. Keep iCUE, operating-system audio selection and other audio utilities in mind when troubleshooting.

Compatibility and connectivity
| Device or platform | Assessment |
|---|---|
| Windows PC | Primary intended use; connect by USB-A and select it as the audio and microphone device. |
| Mac | Officially listed by Corsair; USB-A availability may require a hub or adapter. |
| PlayStation | Older third-party testing included PS4 USB use, but verify the exact console generation, firmware and current support before buying. |
| Xbox | Do not recommend. USB-only platform support does not make it Xbox-compatible. |
| Phone or tablet | Poor fit: no Bluetooth and no 3.5mm plug; an adapter is not guaranteed to provide support. |
| 3.5mm equipment | Incompatible. There is no analog fallback. |
The 1.8 m cable is adequate for many desktop setups, but USB-A-only connectivity is increasingly inconvenient on laptops with USB-C ports. A USB adapter can solve the physical plug mismatch; it cannot turn the headset into an analog, Bluetooth or universally console-compatible model.
Isolation and leakage
Despite its closed-back cups, isolation is poor and sound leakage is noticeable. RTINGS measured both weaknesses, and Tom’s Hardware connected leakage and fit to less controlled bass. It is best in a dedicated gaming room or quiet office, not beside a television, sleeping family member or roommate. Nearby noise can also reach your microphone.
How it compares with alternatives
| Alternative | Why choose it | What you give up or must check |
|---|---|---|
| Corsair Void RGB Elite Wireless | Similar family, RGB and wireless 2.4 GHz convenience. | Battery charging and a wireless dongle; Corsair’s launch claim was up to 16 hours, which should be checked against the exact listing. |
| Corsair Void Elite Surround | 3.5mm connection plus a USB surround adapter. | No RGB and a different cable arrangement. |
| Corsair HS60 Pro | Broader wired compatibility through 3.5mm plus USB adapter; RTINGS rated it better overall than the Void Elite in its comparison. | Different fit and design, without the Void’s RGB identity. |
| Newer Corsair Void models | Potentially newer connectivity, controls and warranty availability. | Compare weight, microphone, USB-C or wireless implementation, battery life, platform support and actual price rather than assuming they are automatically better. |
For the HS60 comparison, see RTINGS’ Corsair comparison. A review of a newer Void v2 MAX describes dual connectivity and other newer features, but it is a different product: TechRadar’s Void v2 MAX review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWho should buy it?
- PC or Mac gamers in a relatively quiet room
- Discord users who prioritize a full, clear built-in microphone
- Players who want soft breathable padding and do not mind a large headset
- Corsair owners who will use iCUE EQ, sidetone, profiles and RGB synchronization
- Buyers finding a genuinely discounted, clearance or refurbished unit with a return policy
Who should avoid it?
- Xbox owners or anyone seeking assured multi-console support
- Phone, tablet and Bluetooth users
- People who need 3.5mm compatibility or a detachable/replacable cable
- Players in noisy or shared rooms
- Anyone seeking a lightweight or compact headset for a smaller head
- Buyers paying modern midrange money for a 2019 USB-A design
Bottom line
The Corsair Void RGB Elite USB is a good discounted comfort-and-chat headset, not a universally good modern headset. Its microphone, breathable pads and iCUE customization remain compelling for a quiet-room PC setup. Its 390 g bulk, loose-fit risk, leakage, USB-A-only attached cable and narrow platform support are substantial compromises. Check the current seller price and return terms: at clearance pricing it can be worthwhile; near its historical $79.99 MSRP or current midrange pricing, a newer USB, 3.5mm, wireless or dual-connection headset is usually the smarter comparison.
