For most Diablo 4 players, the best overall choice is AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT—provided it is meaningfully cheaper than a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. It has 16GB of VRAM and ample 1440p/4K raster performance. Choose the RTX 5070 Ti instead if ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex or NVIDIA’s frame-generation features matter more than value. For 4K Ultra with ray tracing and a high-refresh display, the GeForce RTX 5080 is the premium option.

Prices change by country, retailer and board partner. The figures below are launch-price signals, not guaranteed 2026 street prices, unless a dated price-watch example is identified.
What Diablo 4 officially requires
Blizzard’s published PC requirements are launch-era targets, not current benchmark guarantees. They list GTX 660/Radeon R9 280/Intel Arc A380 for 1080p Low at a 720p render resolution and 30fps; GTX 970/RX 470 for 1080p Medium at 60fps; RTX 2060/RX 5700 XT/Arc A770 for 1080p High at 60fps; and RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT for 4K Ultra at 60fps.
The same page calls for 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or newer, DirectX 12, an SSD with 90GB available and 8GB to 32GB of system memory depending on the target tier. These specifications do not guarantee a frame rate in every town, world event, expansion or future patch, and they do not cover ray tracing.

Radeon RX 9070 XT: best overall
The RX 9070 XT is the default recommendation when its price is clearly below the RTX 5070 Ti. AMD lists 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, up to 640GB/s bandwidth, 304W typical board power and a 750W recommended power supply. Its feature set includes FSR, Fluid Motion Frames, Radeon Super Resolution and Anti-Lag. See the official specifications.
- Best for: 1440p Ultra, high-refresh 1440p and sensible 4K.
- Trade-offs: NVIDIA generally has the stronger ray-tracing and DLSS position; 304W cards can be large and hot.
- Price context: AMD announced a $599 launch price in its RDNA 4 launch release. Check current retail pricing before buying.
GeForce RTX 5070 Ti: best NVIDIA choice
The RTX 5070 Ti is the better buy when you value ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex, streaming tools or RTX 50-series Multi Frame Generation. NVIDIA documents Diablo 4 DLSS support and RTX 50-series features in its Diablo 4 DLSS announcement and 50-series overview.
- Best for: 1440p ray tracing and high-refresh play.
- Trade-offs: It can cost much more than an RX 9070 XT without a comparable advantage when ray tracing is disabled.
- Price context: NVIDIA announced a $749 launch price. A PC Gamer August 2026 price-watch cited examples around $949.97–$1,049.99, illustrating why price parity matters.
Radeon RX 9070: best 1440p value
The RX 9070 provides 16GB of GDDR6, a 256-bit interface, up to 640GB/s bandwidth, 220W typical board power and a 650W minimum PSU recommendation, according to AMD’s graphics specifications. It suits 1440p Ultra on a 60–165Hz monitor when ray tracing is not the priority.

Buy it when it is substantially cheaper than the XT. Skip it when the price is close to the faster model or when NVIDIA’s ray-tracing and DLSS features are central to your decision.
GeForce RTX 5070: NVIDIA value option
NVIDIA announced the RTX 5070 at a $549 launch price and includes DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation in the RTX 50-series platform (launch information). It is a sensible 1440p card when discounted and when you specifically want NVIDIA features.
Its 12GB configuration is less appealing for a long-lived 4K purchase than 16GB alternatives. Compare its actual price with the RX 9070 rather than treating the launch MSRP as a current deal.

- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
GeForce RTX 5080: best premium 4K option
The RTX 5080 is excessive for 1080p and usually unnecessary for standard 1440p Diablo 4. It becomes defensible for 4K Ultra with ray-traced effects, a high-refresh 4K display or a library of more demanding games. NVIDIA markets it as a 4K-focused GPU on its product page.
NVIDIA announced a $999 launch price; the cited August 2026 price-watch reported an example around $1,289.99. Verify the card’s connector, PSU, airflow and dimensions before purchase.

AMD or NVIDIA for Diablo 4?
| Priority | More suitable direction | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Ray tracing | NVIDIA | Generally stronger RT performance and DLSS support. |
| Ray tracing disabled | Compare both | Price and conventional rendering performance matter more; AMD can offer better value. |
| Upscaling | Feature preference | DLSS and FSR both lower internal render resolution and reconstruct the image. |
| Frame generation | NVIDIA RTX 50 for Multi Frame Generation; AMD for Fluid Motion Frames | Generated frames improve displayed smoothness but are not equivalent to traditionally rendered frames for latency or input response. |
| New midrange/high-end purchase | 16GB is a sensible target | It provides memory headroom, but does not guarantee smoothness; resolution, textures, RT, drivers and game build also matter. |
Do not interpret frame-generation output as native performance. Establish an acceptable rendered frame rate first, then test upscaling and generation.

Settings by resolution
1080p
Do not buy a flagship solely for Diablo 4 at 1080p. Existing GTX 970/RX 470-class hardware corresponds to Blizzard’s Medium target, while RTX 2060/RX 5700 XT-class cards correspond to its High target. At high refresh rates, the CPU may limit performance before the GPU does.
1440p
This is the sweet spot for the RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti. Start with Ultra and native rendering. Add an upscaler only after measuring native performance, and select 16GB models when the card will also serve newer, more demanding games.
4K
Separate 4K Ultra with ray tracing disabled from 4K with ray-traced shadows and reflections. The RX 9070 XT is the value-oriented choice when priced well; the RTX 5080 is the premium choice for RT, high refresh and broader AAA use. Blizzard’s RTX 3080/RX 6800 XT 4K target is historical guidance, not a guarantee for every current build.

How to test ray tracing and upscaling
Blizzard describes ray-traced shadows, reflections, enhanced ambient occlusion and contact shadows in its ray-tracing announcement and provides the in-game performance-settings path.
- Run your target resolution and preset with ray tracing disabled.
- Record average FPS and 1% lows in a town, world event, dungeon and effects-heavy fight.
- Enable ray-traced shadows, then reflections, as separate tests.
- Test ambient occlusion and contact shadows.
- Try DLSS or FSR in a quality mode and compare image clarity.
- Enable frame generation only after base performance is acceptable.
- Cap FPS slightly below monitor refresh if steadier frame pacing is preferable.
When a GPU upgrade will not fix performance
Diablo 4 can become CPU-limited in towns, world events, large multiplayer encounters and high-refresh 1080p or 1440p play. Check the CPU model and utilization, RAM capacity, SSD installation, background applications, temperatures, power limits and driver version. A single quiet scene is not enough to diagnose a GPU.
Troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm the game is using the dedicated GPU.
- Update the graphics driver.
- Verify the game is installed on an SSD.
- Check CPU/GPU temperatures and throttling.
- Lower ray tracing before reducing texture quality.
- Reduce resolution scaling or select a quality upscaler mode.
- Disable overlays and monitoring utilities one at a time.
- Repeat the test with frame generation disabled.
- Compare multiple game areas before concluding the GPU is inadequate.
Buying checklist
- Check the price on the day you buy; launch MSRP is historical.
- Match the GPU to your monitor’s resolution and refresh rate.
- Confirm PSU wattage, power connectors, case clearance and airflow.
- Compare cooler size, noise, warranty and return policy among partner cards.
- Consider other games you play; a Diablo 4-only 1080p system rarely benefits from a flagship.
Verdict
Choose the Radeon RX 9070 XT when it is clearly cheaper than the RTX 5070 Ti and you want strong 1440p or practical 4K performance without making ray tracing the priority. Choose the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti when DLSS, ray tracing, Reflex and NVIDIA’s software ecosystem justify the premium. Choose the GeForce RTX 5080 mainly for 4K ray tracing, high-refresh 4K or demanding games beyond Diablo 4.
