The official Tetris mobile game discussed in this headline launched for Android and iOS on January 23, 2020—not in 2026. It arrived ahead of the retirement of Electronic Arts’ older Tetris app and remains listed on Google Play as Tetris®. It is free to download, but the listing says it contains ads and in-app purchases.
What launched in January 2020?
The game was a new licensed Tetris mobile app from N3TWORK, released for Android and iOS under a multiyear agreement with The Tetris Company. Contemporary launch coverage described traditional single-player play, swipe controls, haptic feedback, online and offline play, more than five themes, and more than 50 avatars. Those are launch-era details, not a complete description of the app today. Droid Life’s January 23, 2020 report covered the release.
Why did it replace EA’s older Tetris app?
Electronic Arts’ earlier Tetris app, originally launched in 2011, was scheduled to stop being playable after April 21, 2020. The N3TWORK game had already launched on January 23 of that year. These were separate apps: the new licensed title was not an EA release, and April 21 was the older app’s retirement date, not the new game’s launch date. The contemporary report quoted EA’s retirement notice.
Is the current Android app official, and who publishes it?
Yes. The game launched under license from The Tetris Company, and the current Google Play listing calls it the official mobile app. The listing identifies PLAYSTUDIOS US, LLC as the current developer and says the game is sub-licensed to PLAYSTUDIOS. That differs from the historical launch attribution to N3TWORK; the package identifier still includes the N3TWORK name: com.n3twork.tetris. The official brand site is Tetris.com.

The listing also advertises offline availability. That does not establish that every feature works without a connection: daily challenges, ads, account functions, events, and some rewards may depend on connectivity. The listing’s features and update information can change; it reported an update on June 30, 2026 when checked for this article.

There is no upfront purchase required to download and play the app, but “free” does not mean ad-free or free of optional spending. Google Play labels it Contains ads and In-app purchases. The launch report also noted in-app purchases. Neither source establishes a current price for an ad-removal option, so check the live listing or in-app purchase screen for any current offers.

- Open Google Play and search for Tetris®, or go directly to the official listing.
- Check that the developer shown is PLAYSTUDIOS US, LLC and that the listing is for Tetris. The listing URL includes package ID
com.n3twork.tetris. - Review the live listing for device compatibility, availability in your region, data-safety information, ads, and in-app purchases.
- Install through Google Play rather than downloading an APK from an unverified site.
What to expect before installing
- If you remember the retired EA app, this is a separate, officially licensed game with a different publisher attribution.
