Pokémon Sleep is already available on Android and iOS. It launched on July 19, 2023, and remains free to start, with optional in-app purchases and a Premium Pass. The current requirements are Android 8 or later, iPhone 7 or later with iOS 15 or later, or a compatible iPad running iPadOS 15 or later.
This guide explains what the game does, how overnight tracking works, which watches and accessories connect, what can go wrong, and what to know before moving your account between devices.

Pokémon Sleep is already available
The Pokémon Company lists Pokémon Sleep’s release date as July 19, 2023, for iOS and Android. The app is currently distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. The official Pokémon Sleep website is the safest place to find current announcements and compatibility information.
Older launch stories may use “arrives” language or describe later anniversary coverage as a global release. For someone downloading today, the practical answer is simpler: the game is live, and store availability—not a future launch date—is what matters.

What Pokémon Sleep actually is
Pokémon Sleep is a sleep-tracking game built around Snorlax and Professor Neroli. You record a sleep session, receive a sleep score and sleep-style result, and then research Pokémon that gather around Snorlax. Your result contributes to Snorlax’s Drowsy Power, which helps determine the Pokémon you encounter.
This is not a conventional Pokémon role-playing game. Real-time battling is not the central activity, and progress comes from repeating a slow daily sleep-and-collection loop. Pokémon are recruited through sleep research, encounters and in-game items rather than through ordinary battle encounters.
Compatibility: phones, tablets and operating systems
Android requirements
- Android 8 or later.
- Wi-Fi or mobile-data connectivity, including 3G, 4G or 5G.
- Location services when connecting a Pokémon GO Plus +.
Android 8 is a baseline, not a guarantee that every phone will run correctly. Performance, battery condition, available storage, manufacturer software and unusual device configurations can affect operation.
iPhone and iPad requirements
- iPhone 7 or later.
- iOS 15 or later in the current App Store listing.
- iPad support with iPadOS 15 or later currently shown by the App Store.
Pokémon Sleep ended iOS 14 support in late May 2026, so older articles that list iOS 14 are no longer current. Check the live store listing before installing after an operating-system update.

Pokémon’s support guidance warns that devices modified outside the manufacturer’s supported configuration may not work properly. A newly released operating-system version may also need time before it is officially supported.

How to record a normal night
- Charge first. Begin with a phone or tracking accessory that can last through the session.
- Open Pokémon Sleep and start a sleep session. Keep the app open rather than fully closing it or leaving it only in the background.
- Place the phone correctly. Keep it close enough to detect your movement, preferably near the pillow, but not under a pillow or blanket.
- Use a suitable surface. Pokémon’s guidance says not to put the phone on a hard surface such as the floor or a side table. Keep it where it can detect your movement without detecting another person’s movement.
- End the session after waking. The app then generates the sleep report and begins the research encounter.
Do not place a charging phone under bedding. Besides making movement detection less reliable, restricting airflow can increase heat. If the phone becomes unusually hot, stop the session, move it to a ventilated location and address the charging or performance problem before trying again.
How sleep is estimated
Pokémon Sleep uses the device’s accelerometer to estimate sleep from body movement. The tracked sleep time is therefore not necessarily the entire interval between pressing Start and End; the app estimates the portion during which you appear to be asleep.
That makes Pokémon Sleep an entertainment product, not a clinical monitor. Its sleep stages and scores should not be used to diagnose, detect or treat a medical condition.

What happens when you wake up
After you end a valid session, the app presents your sleep duration, sleep score and sleep-style result. Pokémon that gathered near Snorlax are then researched, adding discoveries and progression to your collection. Helper Pokémon can also recover energy through sleep-related systems.
The game permits up to two sleep sessions per in-game day. The in-game day resets at 4:00 a.m.; a second session interacts with the game’s energy and reward rules, so it is not an unlimited way to repeat every benefit.

Daytime sleepers can use the app too. The game does not require that a session occur at night.
Smartwatch and Pokémon GO Plus + support
Smartwatch imports
Selected smartwatch data can be imported rather than measured by the phone itself:

The official compatibility page is Pokémon Sleep’s supported-devices page. A watch that writes sleep data to Apple Health or Health Connect is not automatically supported. The Pokémon Sleep app must still be installed on an Android or iOS device.
Pokémon GO Plus +
The optional Pokémon GO Plus + accessory can record sleep and interact with Pokémon Sleep, reducing the need to keep a phone beside the bed. It is not required: the official FAQ says the game can be played without it.
The accessory still needs a compatible phone for setup and app interaction, and connecting it requires location services. It adds hardware cost and another Bluetooth setup layer, so it is best viewed as a convenience option rather than a prerequisite.

Is Pokémon Sleep free?
Basic gameplay is free to start. Optional in-app purchases and a Premium Pass are available, but you can test the core sleep-and-collection loop without subscribing.
The U.S. App Store listing showed these prices when checked in August 2026:

If you move from Apple billing to Google billing, cancel the existing subscription, wait for it to expire, then subscribe through the other store. The Premium Pass subscription streak resets when changing stores; do not assume it transfers automatically.

Secure your save data before uninstalling the app, replacing a phone or resetting a device. Pokémon’s iOS 14 retirement notice explains that players can recover data by issuing a transfer code or linking the account with a social account, including an Apple Account or Google Account.
- On the old device, open the account or data-transfer settings.
- Link an available recovery account or create a transfer code while the old installation still works.
- Install Pokémon Sleep from the official store on the new device.
- Use the linked account or transfer-code recovery method before starting a new save.
A transfer code is not a substitute for maintaining a reliable linked-account recovery method. Keep the old app installed until the new device successfully restores your progress.

Common tracking problems and fixes
“No valid sleep sessions were found”
The official FAQ says this can happen when the app detects intense movement for a period and concludes that you were not sleeping. Try a more stable placement and prevent another person’s movement from reaching the phone’s sensors.
The session stopped or data is incomplete
- The app was closed or the phone was left only in the background.
- The battery ran out.
- The phone was too far from the sleeper.
- The phone was on a hard surface.
- Another person’s movement was detected.
- The newest operating-system release is not yet fully supported.
- The phone does not meet performance or compatibility requirements.
Charge the device before starting, close other apps if the phone is slow, update to the latest compatible operating-system version and keep the app open. If tracking was missed, manual sleep data can be entered for up to 30 hours after the session.
Manual entry does not recreate the full research experience: you will not conduct sleep research, although helper Pokémon can recover energy and certain compensation effects may apply.
Travel, time zones and daylight-saving changes
Pokémon’s support documentation says the sleep score is based on actual tracked sleep time even when the clock changes because of travel or daylight saving time. Multiple or overlapping recorded sessions can still cause tracking problems, so avoid starting overlapping records.
Privacy, microphone access and recordings
Pokémon Sleep may request microphone access because Pokémon says the permission is required for sleep tracking. You can disable audio recording from the sleep-data review screen, but microphone access remains required for tracking.
- Recordings can be reviewed after tracking.
- Pokémon says recordings are not shared with third parties or the Research Community.
- Recordings are stored on the device.
- They remain available for up to 24 hours after the last tracking session or until the next sleep session begins.
The App Store privacy label lists categories including identifiers, usage data and diagnostics. These labels are developer disclosures, not independent privacy audits.
Which setup is right for you?

Who should download Pokémon Sleep?
It is a good fit if you
- Enjoy Pokémon collecting and gradual daily progression.
- Want a gentle game-based incentive for a regular sleep routine.
- Can leave a phone charging safely near the bed, or already own a supported watch or Pokémon GO Plus +.
- Understand that the data is game-oriented rather than clinical.
It is a poor fit if you
- Need medical sleep diagnosis or laboratory-grade measurements.
- Cannot safely keep a phone near the bed and do not want an accessory.
- Expect any smartwatch to synchronize automatically.
- Dislike subscriptions or randomized in-game rewards.
- Share a bed or room where another person’s movement regularly confuses tracking.
- Use a phone with weak battery health, little storage or performance problems.
For most curious players, the sensible starting point is the free official app. Play a few nights before buying a Premium Pass, a Pokémon GO Plus + or a new watch, and verify compatibility before depending on any device for overnight data.
