No—Google did not say it would automatically make every Google Play Games profile public. The redesign rolled out globally from September 23, 2025, and in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom from October 1, 2025. Google said the updated profile would use each account’s existing visibility setting by default. The rollout is now past, so check your profile’s current setting rather than relying on the wording of an old notification. Google’s announcement
What changed in Google Play Games?
Google brought the Play Games profile into Google Play and expanded it as a more visible gaming identity. The updated profile can bring together achievements, progress, gaming statistics and milestones, along with customization and community features such as following other players. Google described the update and its timing in its profile-change announcement.
The profile can include games installed on devices associated with the account, games played, and information about when and how long they were played. Depending on the game, it may also show achievements, progress, leaderboard rankings or event information. Not every game supplies every kind of information. Google’s current Play Games profile guidance describes the profile and its settings.
What does a public profile let other players see?
Google says a public profile lets other players find the profile, follow the player and find their updates. It is a setting for the Play Games profile; Google’s documentation does not say that making this profile public publishes a user’s email address, payment information, password or entire Google Account.

A public profile can help players connect and showcase gaming achievements or progress. A private or restricted setting may better suit people who do not want their gaming activity and preferences visible to other players, including users of shared devices or work-related accounts.
What gaming data is involved—and who handles it?
Profile visibility is only one part of the privacy picture. Profile data shown to other players, information Google processes to provide Play Games features, Google Account Play History, and data handled by a game developer are related but distinct.

- Play Games activity: Google says it may process information such as games installed on devices, games played, and when and how long they were played.
- Game-supplied information: Participating games may provide Google with information such as achievements, leaderboard rankings, events and saved progress.
- Developer handling: Developers of participating games may receive or collect information relating to a user’s Play Games profile, activity within that developer’s game, and purchases made in that game. The extent depends on the game; check the developer’s privacy policy and terms for its practices.
- Play History: Google Account Play History can separately include gaming activity such as games played and achievements. It has its own controls and is not interchangeable with the Play Games profile.
These practices are described in Google’s profile-change announcement and its profile privacy guidance.
How to check your profile visibility
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Settings, then General.
- Tap Play Games Profile.
- Review the visibility and following controls available for your account, and adjust them if needed.
Google confirms this settings route in its Play Games profile privacy guidance. Labels and available controls can vary by device, account type, app version and rollout state. Make sure the Play Store is using the Google Account associated with the games you play.

How to manage history, followers and profile data
Review who can see or follow the profile
Use the Play Games Profile controls to review visibility and following options. Google also provides controls for managing the gaming community list. Availability can differ by account type; a supervised account, for example, does not have access to the Play Games followers feature.
Manage Play History separately
Google distinguishes Play History from Play Games profile data. Deleting Play History does not necessarily delete data in the Play Games profile, and deleting the profile does not automatically delete every item in Play History. Review each control separately in Google’s privacy and settings guidance. Google may retain some information for service operation, security, fraud prevention or other stated purposes.

Delete the Play Games profile only if you want to remove it
Google provides a control to delete a Play Games profile and associated Play Games data; this is not the same as deleting the entire Google Account. Before confirming, read the deletion screen carefully: removing a profile may affect profile-based achievements, statistics, social features or related game functionality, and the precise impact can vary. Profile deletion should not be treated as a guarantee that every gaming-related record held by Google or a developer is erased.

Past activity may require an explicit choice
Google said some existing users may be offered a one-time option to import past gaming activity saved through Google Account activity controls. It was not described as a universal automatic import. If you see such a prompt, review what it covers before accepting; importing history can make profile statistics more complete.

Supervised accounts have fewer social features
Google says a supervised Google Account cannot have multiple Play Games profiles and does not have access to the Play Games followers feature; that setting cannot be changed. The feature is therefore not available to every account in the same way. Google’s account and privacy guidance
If the profile setting is missing
- Confirm that the correct Google Account is active in the Play Store.
- Update Google Play Store and Google Play services where updates are available.
- Check the Play Store settings route above and the Play Games settings available on your device.
- Consider whether the account is supervised or the feature is presented differently for your device or account.
Clearing app data or reinstalling games is not a reliable way to change server-side profile visibility. Check the account’s actual profile controls instead.
