NP-35000-8 usually means PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance. Sony’s official instruction is to try again later, so first check the PlayStation Service Status page. This code is cataloged as a PS4 error; PS5 users can still encounter similar PSN or license problems when using PS4 games and services.

What NP-35000-8 means
Sony describes NP-35000-8 as “PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance. Please try again later” on its official error page. The message can appear while signing in, opening PlayStation Store, starting an online feature, or checking a digital license even when your home internet is working.
It does not, by itself, prove that the hard drive, router, game installation, or account is damaged or banned. It is not a reason to initialize the console or change DNS immediately.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
- Open Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page for your country or region.
- Review Account Management, Gaming and Social, and PlayStation Store, plus any platform-specific notices.
- If a service shows maintenance or an outage, wait until Sony marks it operational before troubleshooting further.
A green page rules out a reported broad outage, but it cannot guarantee that a regional, account-specific, or newly resolved incident is clear.

2. If maintenance is reported, wait
Close the affected game or application and keep the console connected. Repeated sign-ins, license restores, DNS changes, game deletions, or console deactivations cannot repair a server-side maintenance window and may create additional account or download problems. After the status page returns to normal, retry a purchase, download, or license check and verify that it completed.
3. Restart the console and network
If Sony reports normal service, restart the console from its Power menu. Do not unplug it while it is writing data or installing an update. Restart or power-cycle the modem and router according to their manufacturers’ instructions, wait for internet access to return, and try again. Sony’s general game-launch guidance recommends restarting for connection and start-up problems: game-launch troubleshooting.
4. Test and improve the connection
PS4
Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.

PS5
Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. These paths are documented in Sony’s connection troubleshooting guidance.
Use Ethernet as a diagnostic
Connect the console directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and run the test again. If Ethernet works but Wi-Fi does not, investigate local signal strength or interference; Ethernet cannot fix a PlayStation Network outage.
DNS is optional, not the NP-35000-8 fix
Only consider manual DNS settings after Sony shows PSN operational, the connection test reports DNS or related failures, and restarting the network or trying Ethernet has not helped. Sony lists DNS-specific errors separately in its error-code directory. Public DNS cannot bypass PlayStation maintenance.

5. Install system-software updates
PS4
Open Settings > System Software Update. Sony’s PS4 software guidance is at PS4 system software.
PS5
Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. See Sony’s PS5 support page. If an update cannot be installed normally, use Sony’s Safe Mode update procedure only when appropriate.
6. Restore licenses only for digital-content symptoms
Use license troubleshooting when a purchased game has a padlock, fails a license check, or Store content remains missing after PSN recovers. Sign in with the account that bought the game or subscription.

- PS4: restore licenses and check that the purchasing account’s console is activated as its primary PS4.
- PS5: restore licenses and check Console Sharing and Offline Play.
Follow Sony’s combined license and sharing guidance at troubleshoot downloaded PlayStation games. Restoring licenses is not necessary merely because NP-35000-8 appeared during announced maintenance.

Use Safe Mode only when PSN is operational, restarts and connection tests have not helped, or other system and content behavior is abnormal.
- Turn the console off completely.
- Press and hold the power button again; release it after the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
On PS4, choose Rebuild Database when appropriate. On PS5, Sony lists Clear System Software Cache and Rebuild Database. These options reorganize system data and are not the same as initialization. See Sony’s Safe Mode information.

Do not initialize the console for this code alone
- Do not factory-reset or initialize because of a server-maintenance message.
- Do not delete and reinstall games before confirming that PSN is operational.
- Do not deactivate every console unless Sony specifically instructs you.
- Do not assume a VPN, paid “PSN repair” service, or new router can restore Sony’s servers.
Sony distinguishes non-destructive default-setting restoration from resets: initializing PS4 or resetting PS5 deletes user and game data and cannot be undone. Read restore-default-settings guidance and back up data before any destructive operation.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support if the status page is operational but the code persists for an extended period, multiple networks or consoles show the same failure, purchased content remains inaccessible, a transaction or subscription is affected, the console cannot update, or another error appears.
Record the exact code, date and time, game or service involved, status-page result, connection-test result, and steps already attempted. Sony asks for error codes, a detailed description, reproduction steps, and a timestamp when investigating persistent content or download failures.
