Spoiler warning: Connections #612 answers
The full groups and tiles are below.
Yellow — Documents of ownership
CERTIFICATE, DEED, RECEIPT, TITLE
Green — Bits in a variety show
DANCE, MONOLOGUE, SKETCH, SONG
Blue — Props for characters on “The Simpsons”
DONUT, PACIFIER, SAXOPHONE, SKATEBOARD
Purple — Starting with “Shake, Rattle and Roll”
ANDROID, RATTLESNAKE, ROLLERBLADE, SHAKESPEARE
Read the first part of each purple tile: ANDROID starts with “and,” RATTLESNAKE with “rattle,” ROLLERBLADE with “roll,” and SHAKESPEARE with “shake.” Together, those beginnings supply the words in “Shake, Rattle and Roll.”
How the board’s decoys work
SKATEBOARD and ROLLERBLADE look like they belong together because both are associated with skating. But ROLLERBLADE is needed for the purple wordplay, while SKATEBOARD joins the Simpsons group. DONUT is a useful clue for that blue set: it points toward Homer, helping connect the other tiles to characters on the show. Once those tiles are placed, the remaining words form the variety-show and ownership-document groups.

How NYT Connections works
Connections gives players 16 words and asks them to sort them into four groups of four by shared themes. The New York Times Help Center says yellow is the easiest category and purple the trickiest. The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone; it is available on the NYT Games website and supported apps. The archive goes back to June 12, 2023, for All Access and Games subscribers.
