NYT Connections #674 was published for April 15, 2025. The 16-word grid divides into four groups of four. Start with the spoiler-light clues below; the complete answer key appears after the spoiler warning.
Hints for Connections #674
These clues become more specific as you read down the list.
- Yellow: Verbs meaning to stop, hold back or choose not to do something.
- Green: Games played with cards.
- Blue: Concepts associated with Greek drama.
- Purple: The second words in familiar names from Peter Pan.
The puzzle format uses 16 tiles and asks you to find four exact groups of four, as described in the game’s general overview.
How to avoid the grid’s traps
Separate musical vocabulary from the intended verb group
REFRAIN can mean a repeated part of a song, and the grid also contains CHORUS, BRIDGE and HOOK. That makes “parts of a song” look like a possible group. In this puzzle, however, REFRAIN means to hold back and belongs with the other words meaning desist. Solver discussion identified the musical reading as a red herring, not an alternative answer: community discussion for #674.

Read the purple words as name endings
The final group is not a set of synonyms. Add each tile to the preceding name: Tinker BELL, Wendy DARLING, Captain HOOK and Peter PAN. This “second word” construction is the key to the hardest category.
Spoiler: answers for April 15, 2025
The archived puzzle is identified as game #674 by contemporary guides from TechRadar and Parade. Here is the complete solution:
| Color | Category | Tiles | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | DESIST | ABSTAIN, AVOID, CEASE, REFRAIN | Each can mean stopping, holding back or choosing not to proceed. |
| Green | CARD GAMES | BRIDGE, HEARTS, SPEED, SPOONS | All are names of card games. |
| Blue | ELEMENTS OF GREEK DRAMA | CHORUS, HERO, HUBRIS, TRAGEDY | These are figures or concepts associated with Greek dramatic tradition. |
| Purple | SECOND WORDS OF “PETER PAN” CHARACTERS | BELL, DARLING, HOOK, PAN | They complete Tinker Bell, Wendy Darling, Captain Hook and Peter Pan. |
Why the wording matters
The yellow category depends on REFRAIN’s verbal meaning—“to abstain” or “stop”—rather than its musical meaning. CHORUS, BRIDGE and HOOK therefore remain available for the Greek-drama and Peter Pan-related deductions instead of forming a song category. The purple set likewise works only when the tiles are treated as the second element of character names, as the contemporary answer guides explain.
