  • Ways to get food: FARM, FISH, GATHER, HUNT
  • Keep apart: CLOISTER, SECLUDE, SEPARATE, SILO
  • Parts of a big rig: AXLES, HITCH, TRACTOR, TRAILER
  • Dance events plus a letter: BALLY, DISCOG, PROMO, RAVEN

How the purple group works

The last category is a wordplay group, not a list of ordinary dance-event names. Each answer resembles a dance event with an extra letter: PROM becomes PROMO, for example. The category label is “Dance events plus a letter.”

How Connections categories are color-coded

Forbes’ general guide describes the colors as usually moving from yellow (easiest) through green and blue to purple (most difficult), with purple often involving wordplay. That is a broad guide to the game, not a rule that determines every puzzle’s difficulty. Forbes’ January 25, 2025 puzzle guide and Parade’s January 26, 2025 answer page identify this as puzzle #595 and report the same four categories and word groups.
