The answer depends on which Stealth 600 you own. On the standard Stealth 600 Gen 2, the Mode button cycles four EQ presets, while Superhuman Hearing is a separate feature. The Gen 2 MAX uses slightly different preset names, and the Gen 3 lets you remap the Mode button in Swarm II.
First, identify your Stealth 600 generation
Turtle Beach has used the Stealth 600 name for several headsets. Check the product name on the box, headset label, purchase listing, or companion app before following button instructions.
| Model family | Documented sound controls | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Stealth 600 Gen 2 PS/Xbox | Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Bass + Treble Boost, Vocal Boost, plus Superhuman Hearing | The Mode button cycles EQ presets; a quick Power-button press toggles Superhuman Hearing. See the PS guide and Xbox guide. |
| Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX | Bass Boost, Signature Sound, Treble Boost, Vocal Boost, plus Superhuman Hearing | Turtle Beach’s product page uses “Treble Boost,” not the standard Gen 2 documentation’s “Bass + Treble Boost.” |
| Stealth 600 Gen 3 | Built-in EQ modes, Superhuman Hearing, 10-band EQ, microphone presets and custom presets | The Mode button is mappable in Swarm II, and the current product material does not establish a definitive list of built-in preset names. |
Platform-specific versions, especially Xbox and PlayStation models, can also differ in pairing, setup and supported controls.
The four classic EQ modes on Stealth 600 Gen 2
The following names and behavior come from Turtle Beach’s standard Gen 2 documentation. These are ready-made changes to tonal balance, not separate game performance levels.

| Vocal Boost | Voices, dialogue and other midrange detail | Story games, podcasts and team communication |

Why the Gen 2 MAX may say “Treble Boost”
The Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX product page lists Bass Boost, Signature Sound, Treble Boost and Vocal Boost. Standard Gen 2 PS and Xbox guides instead list Bass + Treble Boost. Treat this as a model-specific naming difference rather than evidence that the headset is defective.
Superhuman Hearing is separate from the EQ modes
Superhuman Hearing is a separate Turtle Beach processing feature, not a fifth EQ preset. It is designed to make quiet cues such as footsteps and weapon reloads more noticeable.
Because it changes the overall processing, the result can sound less natural, thinner or harsher. It is best treated as a situational option for competitive play, not as an automatic upgrade for music or cinematic single-player games.

How to change the modes
Stealth 600 Gen 2
- Turn on the headset.
- Briefly press the Mode button to cycle through the four EQ presets.
- Briefly press the Power button while the headset is on to toggle Superhuman Hearing.
- Listen for the confirmation tone or voice prompt, if enabled.
Do not hold the Power button for this function. On Gen 2, holding it for about one second is the normal power-on or power-off action; a quick press while powered on is the Superhuman Hearing toggle.
Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX
The Gen 2 MAX provides four audio presets and Superhuman Hearing. Use the button layout and platform-specific instructions for your exact MAX version rather than assuming every Gen 2 variant has identical controls. The model’s documented preset labels are listed on its official product page.

Stealth 600 Gen 3
- Press the Mode button according to its current assignment.
- If it does not cycle EQ profiles, open Turtle Beach Swarm II on desktop or mobile.
- Inspect the Mode-button mapping.
- Assign EQ-preset selection if that is the function you want.
- Use Swarm II for the 10-band EQ, audio and microphone presets, and custom audio presets.
The Gen 3 product page confirms built-in EQ modes and up to five custom audio presets, but it does not provide a verified current list of the built-in preset names. The Gen 3 quick-start PDF is the appropriate hardware reference for your unit and firmware.
EQ presets, custom EQ and button mapping
A preset applies a ready-made sound profile. Custom EQ is different: on Gen 3, Swarm II provides a 10-band equalizer and lets you save custom audio presets. The app can also expose microphone controls and remap the Mode button and other controls.

This is why two Gen 3 headsets can react differently to the same button press: one may still use the default assignment, while another has been configured for multimedia controls, AI microphone noise reduction, a noise gate or chat boost.
Connection type and platform can change behavior
Stealth 600 models are sold in platform-oriented versions, including Xbox and PlayStation editions. Wireless pairing, console setup, game/chat controls and available app functions may therefore vary.
For Gen 3, Turtle Beach warns that some advanced audio features available through low-latency 2.4GHz wireless may not be supported over Bluetooth. If a feature works through the wireless transmitter but not from a phone or other Bluetooth device, check the connection type before changing settings.
When the Mode button does not do what you expect
It does nothing or controls something else
- Confirm whether the headset is Gen 2, Gen 2 MAX or Gen 3.
- On Gen 3, inspect the Mode assignment in Swarm II and restore EQ-preset control if needed.
- Make sure you are pressing Mode, not the Power button or another wheel.
- Test the headset over its supported 2.4GHz connection if you are currently using Bluetooth.
The headset gives no confirmation tone
Older Turtle Beach software allows tone volume to be adjusted. A muted or very quiet tone can make a mode change seem ineffective. Connect the headset to the appropriate Turtle Beach companion software, check tone settings and apply any available firmware update. For Gen 2, see the Audio Hub support page.

You expected Bass + Treble Boost but heard Treble Boost
Check the model name. “Bass + Treble Boost” is the standard Gen 2 label, while “Treble Boost” is the label shown for Gen 2 MAX.
You are treating Superhuman Hearing as an EQ preset
On documented Gen 2 controls, Mode changes EQ and a quick Power press changes Superhuman Hearing. They are independent functions and can be used separately.

- Signature Sound: the safest all-purpose starting point.
- Bass Boost: choose it when impact and low-end effects matter most.
- Bass + Treble Boost: use it on standard Gen 2 when you want a more exaggerated, energetic sound.
- Treble Boost: the corresponding documented Gen 2 MAX label.
- Vocal Boost: useful for dialogue, podcasts and voice-focused content.
- Superhuman Hearing: try it for games where subtle footsteps or reloads matter, then disable it if the sound becomes fatiguing or unnatural.
These are practical listening recommendations, not claims that one mode is objectively best.
If you are replacing an older Stealth 600
The current Stealth 600 Gen 3 is the relevant option if you specifically want Swarm II customization, a mappable Mode button, 2.4GHz wireless plus Bluetooth 5.2, QuickSwitch and the product page’s stated 80-hour battery claim. Turtle Beach’s page showed an observed sale price of $89.99 against a displayed full price of $109.99; prices can change.

The Bottom Line
For most Stealth 600 Gen 2 owners, Mode cycles the four EQ presets and a quick Power press toggles Superhuman Hearing. Gen 2 MAX uses different preset wording, while Gen 3’s Mode button can be remapped in Swarm II, so identify the exact generation before troubleshooting.
