Yes. Connect the PULSE 3D to a phone with the included 4-conductor 3.5 mm audio cable. Use a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm or Lightning-to-3.5 mm audio adapter if the phone has no headphone jack. Sony’s official PULSE 3D documentation does not provide ordinary Bluetooth phone pairing; its mobile instructions use the cable.
What you need
- PULSE 3D headset (model CFI-ZWH1).
- The included 4-conductor 3.5 mm audio cable. Sony specifies this cable for microphone use on a compatible device.
- A phone with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, or a compatible audio adapter for its USB-C or Lightning port.
- Microphone permission for any calling or chat app you plan to use.
Use an audio adapter that supports headset input as well as output if you need the PULSE 3D microphone. Some USB-C adapters are charge-only or output-only. A thick phone case can also prevent the plug from seating fully.

How to connect the PULSE 3D to any phone
- Turn the headset off. Sony instructs you to use the audio cable with the headset powered off.
- Plug one end of the included cable into the PULSE 3D’s 3.5 mm audio input.
- Plug the other end into the phone’s headphone jack. On a phone without one, connect through a compatible digital audio adapter.
- Start music, a video, a game, or a call. The phone should switch audio to the headset.
- Adjust listening volume with the phone’s volume buttons or media-output controls.
- For calls or voice chat, allow the app to use the microphone and test the headset microphone separately from playback.
In wired mode the headset is passive: the battery and USB wireless adapter are not required for audio. Wireless functions are disabled while the cable is connected.

Connecting to an iPhone
iPhone with a Lightning port
Connect a compatible Lightning-to-3.5 mm audio adapter to the iPhone, then plug the PULSE 3D cable into the adapter. For calls or chat, choose an adapter that supports a four-conductor headset microphone, not audio output alone.
iPhone with USB-C
Use a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm audio adapter and connect the included cable. USB-C audio support varies by adapter and phone; a charge-only dongle will not carry headset audio.
Connecting to an Android phone
Android with a 3.5 mm jack
Plug the included cable directly into the phone and the headset. Keep the headset turned off and control volume on the phone.
USB-C-only Android phone
Use a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter that supports analog headset audio. Compatibility depends on the phone’s USB-C audio implementation and the adapter’s internal hardware. Microphone support may be absent even when sound output works.

Does the PULSE 3D connect wirelessly to a phone?
Do not treat the PULSE 3D as a normal Bluetooth phone headset. Sony documents its wireless operation through the supplied USB adapter for the PS5, PS4, compatible Windows PCs, Macs, and other compatible USB-audio devices, while its mobile-device instructions specify the 3.5 mm cable. The adapter is not a Bluetooth adapter.
A phone might be able to host the USB adapter with USB-C host/OTG support, the right physical adapter, and sufficient power, but Sony does not promise universal smartphone compatibility. The cable is the reliable, officially documented phone method.
Newer models can cause confusion: Sony separately documents Bluetooth phone pairing for the PULSE Elite. That documentation does not establish Bluetooth pairing for the older PULSE 3D.
What works—and what does not—on mobile
| Function | Mobile result |
|---|---|
| Music, video, and game audio | Works through the 3.5 mm connection when the phone and adapter recognize it. |
| Phone calls and voice chat | Usually works when the included 4-conductor cable, phone, adapter, and app support headset microphone input. |
| Volume | Adjust on the phone; output level varies by mobile device. |
| Built-in headset controls | Sony does not support the PULSE 3D’s controls for mobile use, so mute, volume, chat/game balance, and mic-monitoring controls may not operate. |
| Mobile 3D Audio | Not supported. |
| Battery and wireless mode in cable use | Not needed for passive wired playback; wireless functions are disabled. |
These limitations are described in Sony’s PULSE 3D manual and product information.

Troubleshooting
No sound
- Turn the headset off; wired playback is designed for powered-off use.
- Remove the phone case and firmly reseat both plugs.
- Confirm that the adapter is an audio adapter, not charge-only.
- Open the phone’s media-output selector and choose the connected headset if it is listed.
- Test the cable and headset on another phone, controller, or laptop.
Sound comes from the phone speaker
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter, stop and restart playback, and try another app. If the external-audio indicator never appears, the adapter may be incompatible or faulty.
The microphone is not detected
- Use the original 4-conductor cable or a replacement explicitly wired for headset microphone support; a 3-conductor stereo cable carries playback but not the headset mic.
- Check the app’s microphone permission and audio-input selector.
- Verify that the USB-C or Lightning adapter supports microphone input.
- Make a short voice recording and speak into the headset mic to determine whether the phone is using it or its built-in microphone.
Volume or mute buttons do nothing
This is generally a mobile-support limitation, not a damaged headset. Adjust volume and mute from the phone or app.
Crackling or intermittent audio
Fully insert the plug, remove strain from the cable, try the included cable, and test a known-compatible adapter. If the problem follows the cable or adapter to another device, replace that accessory.
Quick Recap
Choosing an accessory or a wireless alternative
- USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter: choose one that supports headset audio and microphone input, and check that its plug fits alongside your phone case.
- Lightning-to-3.5 mm adapter: use an iPhone-compatible adapter with headset-microphone support.
- Replacement cable: select a 4-conductor/TRRS cable with the correct PULSE 3D fit; stereo-only cables are unsuitable for the headset microphone.
- Bluetooth headset: if cable-free phone use is essential, choose a model with confirmed Bluetooth support rather than trying to make the PULSE 3D USB adapter behave like Bluetooth. Sony’s PULSE Elite mobile support page is one example: official PULSE Elite Bluetooth instructions.
