Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

In the U.S. market as of August 16, 2026, current-generation prices have risen in some segments, while the more reliable bargains are selective: discontinued stock, open-box and refurbished cards, Intel Arc B-series models, discounted AMD Radeon RX 9000 cards, local inventory, and complete gaming PCs.
The safe approach is to compare the card’s real delivered cost, performance target, warranty, return rights, power requirements, and physical condition before paying.
What “clearance” means for a graphics card
Retailers use clearance terminology inconsistently. Read the condition and return policy rather than assuming that a low price describes a new product.
| Label | What it usually means | Main risk |
|---|---|---|
| Clearance | Inventory is being reduced or liquidated; the item may still be new, open-box, or refurbished. | Limited stock, shortened return period, or no replacement inventory. |
| Closeout/discontinued | A model is being phased out. | Older features, higher power use, and limited warranty availability. |
| Open-box | A returned product inspected by the retailer. | Missing accessories, previous wear, retailer-only coverage, or final-sale terms. |
| Refurbished | A returned or used product repaired, tested, or recertified. | Warranty length and testing standards vary by seller. |
| Used | Typically sold by an individual or marketplace seller. | Unknown history, mining or overclocking wear, and weak return protection. |
| Sale | A temporary price reduction, not necessarily a closeout. | The “discount” may be measured against an outdated price. |
| Bundle | A game, accessory, credit, or other incentive is included. | Codes can expire or have regional restrictions. |
| Prebuilt discount | The complete PC is discounted even when the GPU is not. | A weak power supply, cooling system, CPU, or upgrade path can erase the savings. |
For example, a cited Newegg open-box Arc B580 listing warns that accessories and manufacturer or vendor warranty may be unavailable and that some units are final sale. That is not equivalent to a new retail card.

Where genuine clearance opportunities appear
- NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series pages and its official promotions hub can lead to authorized retailers, but offers and stock change.
- Newegg’s GPU listings combine new, marketplace, open-box, and refurbished inventory; verify the seller on each page.
- Micro Center, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, regional stores, manufacturer outlets, and local pickup can expose one-off returns or overstock. Store policies differ.
- Prebuilt promotions can beat a standalone card when the complete-system discount exceeds the cost of the GPU and the included PSU, case, CPU, memory, storage, and cooling are appropriate.
Use dated price tracking rather than a single headline. Tom’s Hardware’s GPU price tracker notes that older generations increasingly appear through third-party listings. Its reporting also found U.S. median increases of up to 39% for some RTX 50-series cards, including 36% for the RTX 5070 and 27% for the RTX 5060 in the cited Newegg snapshot (report). A clearance article should therefore describe selective bargains, not a universal glut.
Choose the target before choosing the model
| Use case | Cards to investigate | Checks that decide the purchase |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p esports | Arc B570/B580, RTX 5060, or RX 9060 XT-class options | High-refresh CPU limits and game-specific driver behavior. |
| 1080p AAA | Midrange cards with at least 12GB where pricing permits | Texture settings, ray tracing, and VRAM headroom. |
| 1440p | RTX 5070-class, RX 9070-class, or materially cheaper previous-generation equivalents | 12–16GB VRAM, monitor refresh rate, and PSU capacity. |
| 4K | RTX 5080/5090 or RX 9070 XT-class and above | 16GB-plus VRAM, cooling, power, and upscaling support. |
| Ray-tracing-heavy games | RTX 50-series or a substantially cheaper AMD alternative | RT performance and the game’s DLSS or FSR implementation. |
| CUDA or creator work | NVIDIA RTX | Application compatibility, CUDA support, and VRAM. |
| Small-form-factor builds | Short, narrow, lower-power board-partner models | Exact length, thickness, connector position, and airflow. |
These are buying categories, not universal performance rankings. Compare benchmarks made at your resolution, settings, games, and driver versions.

NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel: what changes at clearance prices?
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series
NVIDIA’s Blackwell consumer range spans the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, 5070, 5060 Ti, and 5060. The family emphasizes DLSS 4, ray tracing, AI-assisted rendering, and the CUDA ecosystem; specifications are listed by NVIDIA. The RTX 5090 and 5080 demand a costly, high-power platform, so a modest markdown may not improve total value. The 8GB RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti deserve particular scrutiny for new AAA games, high textures, and mods.
NVIDIA states that new Founders Edition products have a three-year warranty under specified conditions, while its policy excludes used purchases and applies to the original purchaser (warranty terms). Board-partner warranties can differ.

AMD Radeon RX 9000-series
AMD’s RDNA 4 RX 9000 cards can be compelling when clearance pricing buys substantially more VRAM or rasterized performance. AMD’s reference guide lists 16GB for both the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070; it rates the XT at 304W with a recommended 750W PSU and the 9070 at 220W with a recommended 650W PSU (specifications). Partner cards differ in size, clocks, connectors, and cooling. FSR, frame generation, HYPR-RX, FreeSync, and hardware ray tracing are useful only insofar as your games support them.
Intel Arc B580 and B570
Tom’s Hardware identifies the B580 as a 12GB card and the B570 as a 10GB card (tracker). Arc can be strong value for budget 1080p and entry-level 1440p, but enable Resizable BAR on supported systems and check your motherboard BIOS, CPU age, and game APIs. The cited B580 open-box listing specifies PCIe 4.0 x8, 190W board power, and a recommended 600W PSU; its final-sale and warranty warnings are as important as its specifications.

How to prove that the discount is real
- Record the advertised price, retailer, seller, condition, and date. U.S. prices do not transfer directly to other regions.
- Compare with the product’s recent low, not only its launch MSRP.
- Compare new against open-box or refurbished pricing after assigning a value to warranty and returns.
- Calculate effective cost = item price + shipping + tax + required accessories − guaranteed rebates or credits.
- Include the cost of a replacement PSU, adapters, extra cooling, or a larger case.
- Check the complete PC price if a prebuilt supplies the same GPU and usable components.
A cheap listing from an unknown marketplace seller can have worse risk-adjusted value than a slightly dearer card with a documented return window. Treat price trackers and deal pages as snapshots, not guaranteed checkout prices.

- Motherboard: confirm a suitable full-length PCIe slot and, for Arc, Resizable BAR support.
- Power: match recommended wattage, connector type, cable routing, PSU quality, and transient handling. Use separate PSU cables where practical.
- Case: measure card length, height, thickness, radiator and front-fan clearance, and space behind side-mounted connectors. “Dual-slot” does not guarantee physical fit.
- CPU and memory: a flagship GPU can be CPU-limited at 1080p; confirm dual-channel memory and adequate system RAM.
- Display: match resolution, refresh rate, HDR, adaptive sync, and available HDMI or DisplayPort standards.
- Software: verify operating-system, driver, game, and creator-application support.
- History: ask used sellers about mining, repasting, modified BIOS, and overclocking.
New, open-box, refurbished, or used?
| Condition | Best reason to choose it | Walk away when |
|---|---|---|
| New | Maximum warranty, complete packaging, accessories, and resale confidence. | The discount is trivial or the model is poor value against a newer card. |
| Open-box | A meaningful reduction on a card you can test immediately. | It is final sale, lacks essential accessories, or has no practical coverage. |
| Refurbished | The seller identifies testing, warranty, and return terms. | “Refurbished” has no stated process, duration, or responsible seller. |
| Used | A large saving with local inspection and a protected return or payment method. | The seller refuses serial numbers, testing, history, or a return arrangement. |
A Micro Center refurbished B580 example displayed 90-day parts-and-labor coverage. That is a product-specific term, not a universal policy. Ask who performed the work, what was replaced, and whether the warranty transfers.
Test the card before the return window closes
- Photograph the box, seals, card, serial number, connectors, and any damage.
- Install it firmly in the primary PCIe slot and connect every required power cable.
- Download drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, not an unknown mirror.
- Confirm model, VRAM, PCIe link, clocks, fan behavior, idle temperature, and power draw in the operating system.
- Run a repeatable benchmark or demanding game for at least 20–30 minutes, then test several games at the intended resolution.
- Watch for artifacts, black screens, driver resets, overheating, abnormal noise, and hot power connectors. Test memory or stability if the card is used or refurbished.
- Keep all packaging until the return period ends.
A synthetic pass does not prove game compatibility. Coil whine may be harmless electrically but unacceptable acoustically; decide while returns remain available.
If installation fails
No display
- Power down and reseat the card.
- Connect the monitor to the GPU, try another output and cable, and test one monitor.
- Check every connector and PSU capacity; reset BIOS settings if needed.
- Test the previous GPU or integrated graphics and notify a final-sale seller immediately with photographs and test details.
Crashes or artifacts
- Clean-install a stable driver, return overclocks and undervolts to stock, and check core and hotspot temperatures.
- Try separate power cables and another system if possible. Persistent artifacting is more likely hardware failure than a driver issue.
Performance below expectations
- Confirm PCIe slot and link speed, Resizable BAR, CPU limits, dual-channel memory, game settings, thermals, and background processes.
Deals that look good but are not
- A final-sale open-box card discounted only slightly below new.
- An “under MSRP” model that is still slower or less capable than a competing card at the same current price.
- An 8GB card priced near a 12GB or 16GB alternative for a long-term AAA build.
- A marketplace page where the seller, condition, or warranty differs from the headline.
- A card that requires a new PSU, adapter, case, or cooling system.
- An oversized cooler that does not fit your case.
- A bundle whose game or credit has expired.
- An older GPU priced close to a newer, more efficient model with better display, encoder, ray-tracing, or upscaling support.
When to buy and when to wait
Buy when the card meets your resolution and game target, fits your system without expensive upgrades, and has return protection strong enough for immediate testing. Wait when the saving is small, the listing is final sale, the seller cannot document condition or warranty, or a newer alternative is close in price. Consider AMD or Intel when NVIDIA pricing is inflated and you do not need CUDA or the strongest ray-tracing ecosystem. Consider a prebuilt when the complete-system discount is larger than the standalone GPU saving and its PSU, airflow, CPU, memory, storage, and upgrade path are sound.
