Yes—you lose the right to play Apple Arcade games when you cancel, even if their apps remain downloaded. Cancellation does not necessarily delete the app or erase every save. Apple says gameplay progress may be available if you later resubscribe with iCloud enabled and the same Apple Account, but warns that some data may no longer be supported after a long gap.
What cancellation actually removes

Will your saved progress come back?
It may, but treat recovery as conditional rather than guaranteed. Apple says gameplay and progress can be accessed across compatible devices signed in to the same Apple Account, with iCloud enabled. Apple also warns that some gameplay data may not be supported if you wait too long before resubscribing.
- Resubscribe with the same Apple Account used when you played.
- Keep iCloud enabled for the relevant gameplay data.
- Use a compatible device and sign in to that account.
- Do not change accounts while expecting automatic recovery.
These conditions do not create a lifetime backup guarantee. A game can also leave the Arcade catalog during your absence, or be unavailable on the device you are using.

Paid subscription versus a free trial
Regular paid plan
For a paid subscription, open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions and read the expiration date shown there. Do not assume a universal cutoff time; billing arrangements and regions can differ.
Free or discounted trial
Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before a free or discounted trial ends to avoid renewal. However, canceling early can end access immediately for some promotions. Apple’s three-month device-offer terms state that cancellation during the offer removes access for you and family members immediately, forfeiting the remaining period, and the trial cannot be reactivated. How to cancel Apple Arcade
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Apple Arcade, or Apple One if Arcade is included in that bundle.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts.
Mac
- Open the App Store and click your name (sign in if asked).
- Open Account Settings.
- Under Subscriptions, click Manage.
- Select the subscription and click Cancel Subscription.
Apple’s general instructions are at How to cancel a subscription from Apple. If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message, Apple says it may already be canceled.

If you cannot find the subscription
- Search email for an Apple receipt or invoice and identify the Apple Account shown.
- Check your bank or card statement if no Apple receipt exists.
- If another company billed you, cancel through that company.
- A family member’s subscription must be canceled by the Apple Account owner named on the receipt.
Apple One changes the cancellation path
If Arcade comes through Apple One, manage Apple One rather than treating Arcade as a separate subscription. Canceling the organizer’s Apple One plan can remove Arcade access for participating family members. Apple’s Arcade guide lists Apple Arcade and Apple One as the relevant subscription choices.

- On iPhone, open the Apple Games app, choose Arcade, tap the subscription button, and follow the onscreen instructions. Depending on your software version, you may instead see an Arcade tab in the App Store.
- Use the same Apple Account that held the original progress.
- Reinstall the game only if necessary.
- Open it while connected to the internet and allow iCloud/Game Center data time to synchronize.
- Verify the save before changing accounts or deleting anything.
The final three steps are practical precautions, not Apple guarantees. If progress is missing, confirm the Apple Account and iCloud settings first, update the operating system and game, check that the title remains in Arcade, then contact Apple Support or the developer.
Family Sharing
Apple Arcade can be shared with up to five additional family members—six people total. Family members do not need individual Arcade subscriptions when the organizer’s plan includes them.

- Canceling the organizer’s subscription removes Arcade access for participating members when the plan ends.
- Leaving the family group can also remove access.
- Joining a family group that already has Arcade may stop an individual subscription from renewing on the next billing date.
Can you buy the game separately?
Sometimes, but it is not an automatic conversion. Apple distinguishes Arcade Originals from App Store Greats, and some titles have a separately sold App Store counterpart. Check the individual listing at the App Store.
- A standalone version can have different features, ads, in-app purchases, device support, or account behavior.
- Buying it does not guarantee that your Arcade save will import.
- An Arcade-exclusive title may have no separately purchasable replacement.
Devices, catalog changes, and offline play
Arcade supports iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, and Apple Vision Pro, but availability varies by title, hardware, software, and region. Some games are unavailable on Mac or Apple TV 4K. Resubscribing does not guarantee that every former title remains in the catalog.

Apple listed U.S. pricing of $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year on August 18, 2026. The annual plan costs less than twelve monthly payments but is less flexible if you expect to cancel soon. Prices and included services can change by country and over time. Catalog additions and removals also mean a subscription is access, not permanent ownership.
Common problems after canceling
The game is installed but will not open
That is expected once the subscription entitlement ends. Confirm the subscription status, then resubscribe or remove the app.
Progress is missing after resubscribing
- Confirm the original Apple Account is signed in.
- Confirm iCloud is enabled.
- Update the device and game.
- Open the game on a stable internet connection.
- Check that the title is still in Arcade and supports your device.
- Contact Apple Support or the developer if the save remains unavailable.
The subscription is not listed
Use the receipt and billing-account checks above. The person whose Apple Account appears on the receipt must cancel, and a third-party billing provider controls its own subscriptions.
