Most people do not need a gaming laptop for League of Legends. A current Windows thin-and-light with 16 GB of memory, a 512 GB NVMe SSD and modern integrated graphics is enough for smooth 1080p play. Choose a dedicated gaming model when you also want demanding games, sustained high-refresh performance, better cooling, upgradeable components or a gaming keyboard.
Riot’s published requirements are an old baseline, not a complete 2026 buying specification. The current table lists very modest Windows and Mac hardware, including 4 GB RAM and a 16 GB SSD as recommended Mac figures; see Riot’s requirements. The recommendations below therefore prioritize the whole laptop: screen, thermals, portability, memory, storage and price-to-purpose.

What to buy before choosing a model
Minimum sensible new laptop
- Recent Ryzen 3/Core 3-class processor or better with modern integrated graphics.
- 8 GB RAM only when the budget is extremely tight and the memory is upgradeable.
- 256 GB SSD is technically sufficient for League, but leaves little room for Windows and other games.
Recommended configuration
- Recent Ryzen 5, Core 5 or Core Ultra 5.
- 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB NVMe SSD.
- 1080p or 1200p screen at 120–165 Hz.
- Windows 11 and Wi-Fi 6 or newer.
When a discrete GPU makes sense
RTX 5050- or RTX 5060-class graphics are substantial headroom for League, not requirements. Pay for them if you play modern games, stream or record, edit video, or want demanding games on an external high-refresh monitor. Laptop GPU names do not equal desktop performance; wattage and cooling differ between machines.

The 10 best laptops for League of Legends
1. Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 — best overall gaming laptop
Target a Ryzen 7 or Core Ultra 7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB to 1 TB SSD and RTX 5060 with a 144 Hz or OLED panel. It gives League enormous headroom while remaining a capable all-purpose gaming and creation machine. Lenovo’s US page showed a $1,183.49 starting price when crawled; that is a dated starting price, not the cost of every recommended configuration. Check the official listing. Skip it if League is your only game and carrying weight or battery life matters most.
2. Lenovo LOQ 15/16 — best value dedicated gaming laptop
Choose 16 GB, a 512 GB SSD, 144 Hz display and RTX 5050 or 5060 with a Ryzen 5/7 or Core 5. LOQ models commonly trade premium materials and portability for useful cooling and performance. Current RTX 50-series configurations appear in Lenovo’s US listings. Verify the exact screen, GPU power limit and memory layout.
3. ASUS TUF Gaming F16 — best budget gaming laptop
A Core 5/Core Ultra 5-or-better system with 16 GB, RTX 5060 and a 144 Hz panel is a sensible entry to dedicated gaming. ASUS identifies 2026 TUF F16 RTX 5060 configurations in its US gaming listings. Confirm the selected panel and wattage; not every F16 is configured alike.
4. ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 — best portable gaming laptop
The G14 pairs a relatively compact chassis with Ryzen AI 7/9 processors, 16–32 GB memory, RTX 5060/5070-class graphics and a high-quality high-refresh display. It is a premium solution for students who want one machine for travel and serious games. Its price premium is difficult to justify for League alone. See current configurations through ASUS’s gaming store.

5. HP OMEN 16 League of Legends Edition — best themed premium option
HP offers a League-branded OMEN 16 with selected 16-inch panels up to 2560×1600, 240 Hz, 3 ms and 500 nits. Those figures apply only to selected configurations; consult the official page. Buy it for the display and underlying hardware, not the logo, and compare ordinary OMEN pricing.
6. Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 — best display/performance upgrade
With a Core Ultra 7-class processor, 16–32 GB, RTX 5060/5070 and a high-refresh 1600p display, this is aimed at buyers who also play demanding games. Acer lists Predator and Nitro families in its US gaming catalogue. For League-only use, its size, fan noise and cost are hard to defend.
7. Acer Nitro V 15 — best lower-cost gaming entry
Look for Ryzen 5/Core 5, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD and RTX 4050/5050. Nitro provides a gaming chassis, cooling and usually accessible storage at a lower tier. Check every listing for 16 GB rather than 8 GB, and inspect brightness and refresh rate in the exact configuration.
8. Acer Swift Go 14 — best non-gaming Windows laptop
A recent Ryzen 5/7 or Core Ultra 5/7 with 16 GB and a 512 GB SSD is a strong school-and-League combination. Its advantages are lower weight and less conspicuous design; its limits are sustained cooling, ports and potentially soldered memory. Verify the integrated GPU and panel for the exact Swift Go configuration.

9. Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 — best mainstream budget choice
Target Ryzen 5/7 or Core 5, 16 GB and 512 GB SSD. It suits League, study and office work, but many variants use 60 Hz screens or soldered RAM. Avoid 8 GB permanent-memory models if you expect several years of browser tabs, Discord and recording. Browse the IdeaPad family and compare the complete specification.
10. Apple MacBook Air — best Mac candidate, with a compatibility check
Apple silicon, 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD make the Air attractive for portability and everyday work. Do not assume it is equivalent to Windows for League: Riot’s older requirements page includes an ARM-unsupported statement, so confirm current macOS client and Vanguard support before purchase. The Apple buying page does not establish game compatibility.
How demanding is League?
Launching the game, playing acceptably at low settings, sustaining a stable frame rate in team fights, driving a 144/240 Hz panel, and streaming while using Discord are different workloads. Integrated graphics can handle the first four on a suitable, well-cooled system, but results vary with memory channels, resolution, power mode, drivers and background applications. No responsible guide can promise one FPS figure for an entire laptop family.
Display, battery and thermals
Choose 120–165 Hz as the practical sweet spot. 1080p is efficient; 1200p or 1600p is sharper but demands more graphics power. IPS or OLED generally beats a dim low-color panel for everyday use. Brightness matters in classrooms, and 16:10 screens provide useful vertical space. Check HDMI and USB-C display capabilities if you plan an external monitor.

Gaming laptops normally need their charger for maximum performance. High-refresh panels and discrete GPUs consume more power, while thin-and-light systems are easier to carry and usually better away from an outlet. Dedicated cooling also brings fan noise, heat, larger adapters and possible performance differences between plugged-in and battery modes.
RAM, storage and upgradeability
- 16 GB: the default recommendation for Windows, League, browsers, Discord and recording.
- 32 GB: useful for content creation, virtual machines and heavy multitasking, not required for League.
- 512 GB SSD: sensible minimum for a new purchase; choose 1 TB for several games.
- Upgradeable SODIMM memory and replaceable M.2 storage: valuable for a five-year ownership period. Check the service manual rather than assuming a family is upgradeable.
Setup checklist for smoother play
- Plug in the charger and select the manufacturer’s performance mode.
- Install current graphics, chipset and Windows updates.
- On hybrid-graphics laptops, confirm League uses the intended GPU.
- Use wired Ethernet or strong 5 GHz/6 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Cap frame rate if heat and fan noise matter, and keep vents unobstructed.
- Distinguish network ping and packet loss from rendering performance; a faster GPU cannot fix a congested connection.
How to choose among the ten
Give the greatest weight to the screen and value, then performance headroom, portability and battery behavior. Build quality and keyboard affect daily use; thermals affect sustained play; upgradeability protects the investment. A 240 Hz panel is useful only when the system can sustain the required frame rate, and a discrete GPU is poor value when League is the only demanding application.
Important buying warnings
- Confirm CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD and display on the exact retailer listing.
- Single-channel memory can reduce integrated-graphics performance.
- Low-wattage versions of the same laptop GPU may perform very differently.
- Marketing FPS figures may use low settings, uncapped frames, training mode or short tests.
- Do not treat a 60 Hz screen, 8 GB soldered RAM or a 256 GB drive as harmless long-term compromises.
- Prices change with region, retailer, sales and configuration. Lenovo’s cited price is a US starting price seen when crawled, not a permanent market price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can League of Legends run on a Chromebook?
Chromebook support depends on the specific ChromeOS method and Riot’s current client and anti-cheat policy. It is not the straightforward Windows recommendation; verify current Riot support before buying specifically for League.
Is 8 GB RAM enough?
It can run the game, but 16 GB is the sensible new-purchase target for Windows, browsers, Discord and future updates. Choose 8 GB only when it is upgradeable and the budget leaves no alternative.

Do I need an RTX GPU?
No. Modern integrated graphics are sufficient for League. An RTX 5050 or 5060 is mainly for other demanding games, creation or high-refresh headroom.
Is 60 Hz enough?
It is playable, but 120–165 Hz is a noticeable practical upgrade when the laptop can sustain the frame rate.
Should I buy refurbished?
A reputable refurbished laptop can offer value, but inspect battery health, warranty, return terms, SSD condition and whether RAM is upgradeable. Confirm the exact configuration rather than relying on the family name.
The Bottom Line
For League alone, buy a 16 GB Windows laptop with a 512 GB SSD and a 120 Hz-or-faster screen; integrated graphics are enough. Choose the Lenovo Legion 5, LOQ, TUF F16 or another dedicated model only when broader gaming, cooling, ports or upgradeability justify the extra weight and cost. Treat MacBook Air compatibility as a question to verify with current Riot documentation, not an assumption.
