Microsoft began testing an aggregated gaming library in the Xbox PC app with Insiders in June 2025. By September 15, Xbox said the feature was available to everyone: installed games from supported PC storefronts can appear together in the app’s library and recent-games list. It is a shared place to find and launch games—not a merger of purchases, subscriptions, or game saves.
What changed, and when?
The feature moved from a preview to broader availability in three months:
- June 23, 2025: Xbox announced that members of the PC Gaming Preview would get a first look that week at the aggregated library in the Xbox PC app for Windows 11 PCs and handheld devices. Xbox also said the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X were planned to include it in the Xbox full-screen experience when available that holiday. Microsoft’s May 20, 2026 overview continues to describe the Xbox PC app as a Windows 11 hub for purchased games, Game Pass, and installed games from other storefronts, naming Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG as PC gaming options. What does “unifying” the libraries mean?
The Xbox PC app can surface installed games from supported PC storefronts in one view, including My Library and Most Recent. This makes it easier to find and launch games without treating each store’s library as a separate list. Support is not necessarily exhaustive or permanent: Xbox said additional storefront support would roll out over time, and the feature applies to supported stores and detected installed games.

It does not turn separate storefronts into one account or one license. Seeing a Steam game in the Xbox app does not make it an Xbox purchase, and an Xbox purchase does not become a Steam license. The feature is a library and launch surface, rather than a transfer of ownership.
Does it combine purchases, cloud play, or game saves?
Purchases and access
Each game remains governed by the storefront or service that provides access to it. Xbox Play Anywhere is a separate, eligibility-based program: for qualifying games bought through an Xbox online store, the purchase can provide access to both the console and PC versions. Cloud play and cross-device features
Xbox describes cross-device play history and cloud-playable games as additional features in its ecosystem. Cloud access has its own device, subscription, and regional conditions; it is not required just to aggregate installed PC games.
Saves and progression
A game listed in the Xbox app does not automatically support cross-save or shared progression. Xbox Play Anywhere documentation describes cross-progression and cross-entitlement for participating games, but support and eligibility depend on the title and program. Check the game’s own support details rather than assuming a common launcher makes progress portable.

How to use the aggregated library
On a supported setup, installed games from supported storefronts can show up automatically. To control which storefront listings appear:
- Open the Xbox PC app and select your profile picture.
- Choose Settings, then Library & Extensions.
- Toggle a storefront listing to hide or show it.
The setting controls storefront visibility in the Xbox app; it does not uninstall a game or alter its purchase in the original store.

Who can use it, and what should you check?
Xbox announced the initial preview for Windows 11 PCs and handhelds through enrollment in the PC Gaming Preview. Its September 2025 announcement said the aggregated library was available to everyone and described Windows PCs and handhelds as use cases. Microsoft’s current PC gaming overview warns that functionality and availability can vary by region, so exact behavior may differ by setup.
- Windows requirements: Microsoft’s Xbox PC app page lists Windows 10 or 11, version 22H2 or higher, as the app requirement. That does not establish a complete compatibility matrix for every aggregation feature or handheld full-screen interface. Xbox PC app and PC gaming information
- Store and game support: The feature covers supported storefronts and installed games; do not assume every store or title will appear.
- Device experience: The app is available on Windows PCs as well as handheld use cases, but interface behavior can vary by device. The ROG Xbox Ally family was cited in a June 2025 preview plan, not as a hardware requirement.
- Region: Microsoft flags regional variation for PC gaming functionality and availability. Check the app and your local Xbox information for your region.
What this means for PC players
If your goal is to see installed PC games from several supported storefronts in one Xbox app, the feature addresses that convenience problem. It can reduce launcher-hopping when locating a game, while leaving the original storefront’s ownership and account rules in place. For a decision beyond convenience, assess store coverage, launch behavior, entitlement, game-by-game save support, and device and regional compatibility separately; the available Microsoft announcements do not establish that the Xbox app is better than third-party library managers.
