Converting a Maximum Force cabinet into a PC emulation cabinet starts with solving its defining control problem: accurate light-gun input on the display you plan to use. The title alone does not establish what PC, monitor, wiring or gun hardware this particular build uses, so this guide focuses on the decisions and software checks any such conversion needs rather than inventing a parts list or claiming a completed build.
Why the light gun is the key decision
Maximum Force is a 1997 arcade light-gun shooter developed by Mesa Logic for Atari Games; an Area 51/Maximum Force Duo cabinet was also released. Because aiming is central to the game, a PC conversion needs a light-gun input path that works with the cabinet’s display and the chosen emulator—not merely a PC connected to an arcade monitor.
The original cabinet’s display, gun hardware and wiring are not established here. Those details determine whether existing components can be retained or a different tracking method is needed.
Choose a tracking approach that fits the display
Two LCD-compatible approaches illustrate the main trade-off: one derives aim from a border around the screen, while the other tracks infrared LEDs. Neither should be treated as universally plug-and-play, and the available information does not establish an independent accuracy winner.

Make the choice based on the display and cabinet geometry, whether you are willing to install and show tracking hardware, compatibility with your emulator and front end, and your budget. Configure MAME for light-gun input
MAME needs the gun’s inputs mapped correctly. The Sinden MAME guide is a useful checklist for binding light-gun X/Y axes and the trigger and other buttons, then enabling relevant light-gun and mouse input settings. Some setting names and input behavior depend on the MAME version, so confirm each instruction against the version installed on the cabinet.

- Connect the selected gun and confirm the operating system sees its input. The exact device setup depends on the gun and operating system.
- Open MAME’s input configuration for the installed version. Bind the light-gun X and Y axes, trigger, and any buttons the game or control layout uses.
- Enable the relevant light-gun and mouse input settings. Use the guide as a checklist, then verify the setting names and behavior for your MAME release.
- Test in the target cabinet. Check that aim reaches the expected screen positions, trigger input registers, and reload behavior works as intended. Resolve game-specific mappings before treating the conversion as finished.
Sinden’s support page points users to its wiki and community help. In an update dated 2026-07-08, it advised using an alternate support-wiki address while addressing loading issues, and recommended official mainline images and setting up one’s own system. Support resources and instructions can change, so check the current page when configuring a build.
