The HyperX Cloud II launched in 2015, one year after the original HyperX Cloud. As of the August 16, 2026 U.S. snapshot, the wired model is still sold, while the Cloud II Wireless remains an older PC-and-PlayStation option with limited official stock. Its reputation comes from a durable aluminum frame, memory-foam comfort, detachable microphone, broad analog compatibility and a useful—if optional—USB surround-sound control box. It is no longer an automatic recommendation: the newer Cloud III overlaps its price, and different Cloud II revisions make blanket claims about sound or quality unreliable.
When did the HyperX Cloud II come out?
HyperX identifies the original Cloud as a 2014 product and the Cloud II as a 2015 introduction. The official branding is “Cloud II,” although “Cloud 2” is common shorthand. HyperX’s history describes the second-generation model as adding a USB audio control box and virtual 7.1 surround processing to the original Cloud formula: a comfort-focused closed-back headset with 53 mm drivers, an aluminum frame and detachable microphone.
The Cloud II Wireless followed on October 20, 2020, with shipping announced November 10, 2020. HyperX later became part of HP’s gaming business, but the Cloud II was already an established product before that ownership change.

The Bottom Line
The Cloud II is a 2015 design that remains compelling when comfort, a detachable microphone, analog flexibility and a low wired price matter most. Buy the wired version for Xbox, Switch, mobile or battery-free use; consider Cloud III when its price is close. Choose Cloud II Wireless only for a confirmed PC/PS4/PS5 deal and only after accepting adapter dependence and battery aging.
