Yes, Razer really makes a Gengar-themed Kraken Kitty V2 headset. The important timing correction is that Razer’s official announcement on August 19, 2025 described an international availability expansion—not a brand-new 2026 headset generation. Originally released in Asia, the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 – Gengar Edition was announced for the United States, Latin America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Razer’s U.S. store listed it at US$139.99 when checked on August 18, 2026.
The headset is a wired USB-A model. Its licensed purple Gengar design is the reason to buy it; its lack of Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless and 3.5 mm connectivity is the reason to think carefully before paying the premium.
What Razer actually revealed
Razer and The Pokémon Company International are behind the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 – Gengar Edition. Razer’s newsroom announcement on August 19, 2025 said the headset had first been released in Asia and was then being made available across additional regions. That wording matters: August 19 was the international rollout announcement, not necessarily the product’s first-ever reveal.
The model should not be confused with the Kraken Kitty V2 BT, Kraken Kitty V2 Pro, Kraken Kitty V3 Pro or Kraken Kitty V3 X. The full model number for the Gengar edition is RZ04-04730300-R3M1.

Design: a Gengar collectible with RGB
The standard kitty-ear look is replaced by Gengar-inspired styling. The purple-and-black headset has two prominent fixed Gengar spikes on the headband, purple spectral accents and earcups with customizable Razer Chroma RGB lighting. Gengar silhouettes appear in the illuminated earcups, while a more discreet Gengar illustration or smirk detail is hidden inside them.
Razer presents the design and lighting on its official Gengar product page. PC Gamer also highlighted the sturdy purple spikes and the inner-ear artwork in its review. The spikes are visual design elements, not detachable accessories or additional speakers.

Audio, microphone and comfort
Sound and chat
The TriForce 40 mm drivers are intended to separate bass, midrange and treble for gaming, while the software-based 7.1 mode creates virtual surround effects. PC Gamer found the overall audio competent for gaming, but not a class-leading reason to choose this headset over less expensive or more versatile models.
The HyperClear Cardioid microphone is suitable for Discord and in-game chat. PC Gamer reported some roughness around plosive sounds rather than professional-recording quality. Treat Razer’s microphone language as a gaming feature claim, not a promise of studio performance.
Fit and physical design
The headset uses over-ear cushions combining fabric and leatherette. At roughly 325 g, it is substantial, and comfort will vary with head size, glasses, hair and preferred clamping force. The microphone arm bends but does not detach. A fixed cable can also be more noticeable during long desktop sessions.

Compatibility: USB-A is the decisive limitation
Retail listings identify compatibility with PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, mobile devices and tablets, but those claims depend on a device exposing a compatible USB audio port and supplying enough power. The headset has no 3.5 mm fallback.
- PC and Mac: USB audio works as the primary connection; Razer Synapse may be needed for configuration and lighting control.
- USB-C laptops, phones and tablets: a USB-A adapter may be required. An adapter does not guarantee that every mobile device will recognize or power the headset.
- Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck: support depends on the available USB port and whether the device is docked or handheld.
- PlayStation and Xbox: do not assume compatibility without checking the exact console model and current support documentation.
Razer specifies that the 7.1 surround feature is available on Windows 10 64-bit. RGB customization and other Synapse features can be reduced on devices where Razer’s software is unavailable. Chroma effects should not be expected to behave identically on every platform.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is the Gengar Edition wireless?
No. It is a USB-A wired headset with an integrated cable. It has no Bluetooth, no 2.4 GHz wireless mode and no detachable 3.5 mm cable. That makes it best suited to a desk setup and less convenient for users who move between a phone, console, laptop and PC.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What you are paying for
At US$139.99, the Gengar Edition costs more than many conventional wired gaming headsets. The premium primarily buys the licensed design, collector appeal, RGB presentation and Razer ecosystem—not broader connectivity. PC Gamer’s value critique reaches the same practical conclusion: the headset is competent, but its visual identity is doing much of the selling.

Alternatives at the prices checked
The following U.S. prices were shown in Best Buy’s comparison listing when checked; retailer pricing is temporary and should be rechecked before purchase.
| Model | Price seen | What changes | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken Kitty V2 – Gengar Edition | US$139.99 | Wired USB-A, Gengar styling, RGB | Pokémon collectors and themed desktop setups |
| Kraken Kitty V3 Pro | US$151.99 (listed prior price US$179.99) | Wireless kitty-ear model with multiple connectivity modes | Buyers prioritizing flexibility over Gengar branding |

Practical ownership cautions
- Protect the integrated cable from chair wheels, pets, sharp bends and pulling; cable damage is more consequential than with a detachable design.
- USB-A adapters can solve a connector mismatch but cannot guarantee compatibility, power or software support on every mobile device.
- Do not infer scarcity from an inflated third-party listing. Verify the seller and RZ04-04730300-R3M1 model number.
- Do not confuse this product with the wireless Kraken Kitty V2 BT or the Kraken Kitty V2 Pro.
Verdict: a Gengar purchase first, a headset purchase second
The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 – Gengar Edition is a real product and a strong piece of Pokémon-themed hardware. Its purple spikes, concealed artwork and Chroma RGB make it unusually distinctive for a licensed gaming headset. Its TriForce drivers and HyperClear microphone are adequate for everyday gaming and chat.
At US$139.99, however, you are accepting a USB-A-only wired connection, a fixed cable and Windows-limited virtual 7.1 in exchange for the Gengar presentation. Buy it if that design is the point. If wireless freedom, cross-device convenience or maximum value matters more, one of the alternatives is the more rational choice.
