The US Steam listing showed a $14.99 base-game price on August 18, 2026, with regional pricing, taxes and sales varying. Windows 10 or 11 is the practical target because the Steam client now supports Windows 10 and later, even though the game listing still names 64-bit Windows 8 as its minimum. The PC edition includes single-player scenarios, online PvP, online co-op, a Scenario Creator, Steam Workshop, cloud saves and achievements.
This is a fictional strategy simulation in which you evolve a pathogen, spread it worldwide and react to humanity’s countermeasures. Its gameplay systems should not be used as medical or epidemiological advice.
How to download Plague Inc: Evolved on Windows
Ndemic Creations directs PC players to Steam rather than to a separate official Windows installer. Use the official Steam store page or the developer’s PC page.
- Install the official Steam client from Steam and sign in or create an account.
- Search the store for Plague Inc: Evolved.
- Confirm that Ndemic Creations is shown as developer and publisher.
- Select Add to Cart, complete checkout and choose the applicable purchase option.
- Open Library and select Plague Inc: Evolved.
- Click Install, choose a Steam library location and start the download.
- When installation finishes, select Play.
Avoid cracked executables, torrent bundles and “free download” portals. They are unnecessary when the official Steam release is available and can create malware, account-security and copyright risks.

Price, editions and DLC
The US Steam page displayed the base game at $14.99 on August 18, 2026. Your price can differ because of country, currency, tax, discounts and bundle rules. Check the live store page at checkout rather than treating that figure as permanent.
Steam also lists separate content and bundles, including Plague Inc: The Cure, Aliens & Anti-Vaxxers, the soundtrack and a Complete Bundle. Individual DLC and soundtrack prices are volatile. The base-game purchase should not be described as including every later add-on: an older Ndemic FAQ discussed expansions available at that time, while the current store presents newer content separately.
Windows system requirements
These are the requirements currently shown on Steam. DirectX 11 support is required.

Steam separately states that its client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. Therefore, Windows 10 or 11 is the safer practical recommendation; a Windows 8 machine may meet the game’s nominal listing but still fail to install or run the current Steam client.

The store warns that graphics cards more than 10 years old may show display problems and identifies Intel HD Graphics 3000, Intel GMA X3100 and Intel GMA 950 as unsupported chipsets. See the current Steam requirements before buying.
What the PC version includes
The current Steam description advertises 10 disease types and 23 scenarios, along with more than 250 Steam achievements. Older Ndemic pages still mention 20 scenarios, so use the live Steam count for the current storefront description rather than mixing the figures.
- Single-player campaign with multiple pathogen classes and special diseases.
- Online competitive multiplayer and online co-op.
- Scenario Creator and Steam Workshop sharing and downloads.
- 3D disease models, city-camera views, graphs, statistics and replay tools.
- Speed-run features, genetic modifications and Mega Brutal difficulty.
- Steam Cloud saves, achievements and leaderboards.
Ndemic’s PC page also references content such as Aliens & Anti-Vaxxers – Update 1.23 and Frozen Virus for Cure Mode. Treat these as update or DLC references, not as a promise that every item is part of the base purchase.
PC versus mobile
Evolved is a PC redevelopment of the mobile game, not merely a Windows installer for the phone edition. Ndemic’s FAQ describes PC-specific additions including competitive multiplayer, co-operative play, scenario creation, Steam Workshop support, expanded 3D presentation and deeper statistics and replay tools.

Do not assume that Windows, mobile and console versions receive identical content at the same time.
Beginner strategy guide
Start with Bacteria on Normal
Bacteria on Normal teaches the core loop without the unusual constraints of Virus, Fungus, Parasite, Prion, Necroa Virus, Simian Flu, Shadow Plague, Cure Mode or custom scenarios.
Spread before you kill
- Spend early DNA on transmission and environmental adaptability.
- Watch infection totals and the map while keeping the disease relatively quiet.
- Devolve symptoms that create unnecessary visibility or lethality before worldwide spread.
- After most countries are infected, invest more heavily in severe symptoms.
- Keep DNA in reserve for resistance, cure pressure and late-game mutations.
Infectivity determines spread, severity increases visibility and response, and lethality kills available hosts. Raising lethality too early can leave isolated countries uninfected and remove the hosts you still need.
Protect against map bottlenecks
Check ports and airports and watch island or hard-to-reach regions such as Greenland, Madagascar, the Caribbean and New Zealand. No fixed island list is decisive in every scenario: difficulty, disease type and scenario rules change the best route.

Buy resistance selectively
Choose drug, cold, heat and transmission upgrades according to the map and current spread. Buying every upgrade immediately wastes limited DNA.
Manage the cure
- When cure progress accelerates, prioritize abilities that slow it or improve survival.
- Review uninfected countries before spending DNA on low-impact mutations.
- Increase lethality only after your infection base is broad enough.
- Pause while assessing several events or deciding between competing upgrades.
Devolving a symptom can recover DNA, but it also changes severity, visibility or lethality. Use devolution tactically rather than automatically reversing every mutation.
Learn special pathogens separately
- Virus: mutation management is central.
- Fungus: reaching every country can require a slower, more deliberate approach.
- Parasite and Prion: their pace and specialized progression alter the normal rhythm.
- Necroa Virus and Shadow Plague: use their unique mechanics instead of a bacteria build.
- Cure Mode: reverses the objective; you manage a response rather than eradicate humanity.
- Custom scenarios: may change the rules substantially.
Multiplayer, co-op and custom scenarios
Steam lists online PvP and online co-op, not local split-screen. In competitive play, track the opponent as well as humanity’s response; fastest raw spread is not automatically the winning plan. In co-op, divide responsibilities such as spread, severity and cure pressure, communicate before shared opportunities are spent and avoid duplicating upgrade paths without a reason.
For Workshop scenarios, allow subscriptions to finish downloading, use the correct Steam account and check compatibility with the current game version. Find custom content in the Scenario Creator or custom-content area rather than assuming it will appear in the standard scenario list.

Troubleshooting Windows problems
The game will not download
- Confirm Steam is online, signed in and the account owns the game.
- Check free space on the selected drive.
- Make sure Steam is not paused or operating offline.
- Try a different Steam download region if the service is behaving abnormally.
- Update Steam and Windows.
The game will not launch
- Restart Steam, then restart Windows.
- Update the graphics driver and confirm DirectX 11 support.
- Open the game’s Steam Properties and use Installed Files to verify the integrity of game files.
- Disable conflicting overlays or capture tools.
- Launch without mods or Workshop content.
- Check whether antivirus or Windows Security quarantined a game file.
- Reinstall to a current Steam library if the installation remains damaged.
Menu labels can change between Steam client versions. If the issue persists, use Steam’s technical-support page for the game.
Black screens, glitches or crashes
Likely causes include very old or unsupported graphics hardware, outdated drivers, DirectX 11 incompatibility, overlay conflicts, damaged files and broken Workshop content. The unsupported Intel chipsets listed above are a specific warning sign.
Multiplayer fails
- Both players must own the same PC edition and use updated, online Steam clients.
- Check firewall and security software permissions.
- Disable incompatible mods or custom scenarios.
- Confirm you are selecting online PvP or online co-op, not expecting local split-screen.
Is the Windows version worth buying?
It is a strong fit if you want mouse-and-keyboard control, a larger presentation, online multiplayer, co-op, Workshop scenarios, custom creation, Steam Cloud and achievements in a one-time PC purchase. Mobile is more convenient for touch play and may have a lower entry cost, but it is not a direct substitute for those PC features.
Consider another game if you want an action title, dislike disease-themed subject matter, need a validated medical simulator, require local couch co-op or have hardware too old for current Steam and DirectX 11 compatibility. Ndemic also lists Rebel Inc: Escalation and After Inc. for players seeking different strategy or survival premises.
