Roblox Error Code 260 means the client failed to receive data needed to join or keep running an experience. The usual message is “There was a problem receiving data, please reconnect.” Roblox’s current official error-code article does not list 260 as a standalone code, so it does not identify one guaranteed cause. The failure can come from Roblox services, one experience or server, your network, security software, the Roblox installation, device resources, or Roblox Studio.
Use the tests below to identify which category applies before trying random fixes.
Check whether Roblox is down first
Open the official Roblox status page and look for incidents affecting game join, games, the website, mobile, console apps, or Studio. Roblox says service problems can make experience joins delayed or unsuccessful; waiting briefly and trying again is appropriate during an incident (Roblox outage guidance).
An operational status page does not rule out a regional, platform-specific, account-specific, or single-experience problem. Check whether the website loads, friends can join, and another experience works.

Find the failing part before repairing it
| Test | Result | Most likely direction |
|---|---|---|
| Join a different experience | Other games work | The original experience, place, or server may be broken, overloaded, or misconfigured. |
| Try a phone hotspot or another permitted network | Hotspot works | Home Wi‑Fi, router filtering, parental controls, DNS filtering, ISP routing, or firewall rules. |
| Try another device | Other device works | Local app files, operating system, security software, or device resources. |
| Ask someone else to join | Everyone fails | Roblox or the experience may be having an outage. |
| Compare Roblox Player with Studio | Only Studio fails | A Studio, project, or Play Test networking issue rather than a general player failure. |
Roblox’s general connection guidance lists firewalls, inconsistent wireless connections, slow or filtered connections, browser security settings, ad blockers, and defective or overloaded experiences as possible causes.
Quick fixes for every platform
- Wait a few minutes, then reconnect.
- Completely close Roblox. On a computer, also quit Roblox Studio and end remaining Roblox processes in Task Manager (Windows) or Force Quit (macOS).
- Restart the device.
- Try another experience.
- Install pending Roblox and operating-system updates.
- Temporarily test without a VPN, proxy, ad blocker, or network-filtering application. Do not leave security protection disabled; use a temporary test or an allow-list rule.
- Try another network, such as a phone hotspot, where your plan and local rules permit it.
Windows fixes
Repair the desktop client
- Close Roblox and Studio, then restart Windows.
- Try joining from another supported browser if you normally launch Roblox from a browser. Disable extensions, especially ad blockers, for a test.
- Check antivirus and Windows Firewall logs. Permit the official Roblox application rather than disabling protection permanently.
- Update Windows and Roblox.
- Uninstall Roblox and reinstall it through an official Roblox distribution channel. Reinstallation can replace corrupted or outdated files, but it cannot repair an outage, broken experience, blocked network, account permission, or platform defect.
Roblox documents reinstalling and cache-clearing for related client errors, not specifically Code 260; treat those instructions as general client-repair measures (related Roblox troubleshooting).
Mac fixes
- Force-quit Roblox and Studio, then restart the Mac.
- Update macOS and Roblox.
- Test another network and temporarily bypass VPN, content filters, or security software.
- Try a different experience and determine whether the normal player, Studio, or both fail.
- Reinstall Roblox from the official download path.
Reports of Code 260 on Mac and iPhone show that Apple-device cases exist, but they do not establish one universal macOS or iOS cause (community report).

iPhone and Android fixes
- Force-close Roblox and restart the phone or tablet.
- Update Roblox from the official App Store or Google Play and install the latest supported operating-system update.
- Switch between Wi‑Fi and cellular data, if available.
- Temporarily disable VPN or filtering software for a controlled test.
- Free storage and close demanding background apps.
- Try another experience, then reinstall Roblox if the problem remains.
Some developers have associated particular Code 260 cases with low memory or packet-allocation failures, but that is a community observation, not Roblox’s official definition (community report). Roblox says mobile devices should use their original, updated operating system; virtual machines and cloud computers are not supported (official error-code requirements).

Xbox and PlayStation fixes
- Fully quit Roblox instead of leaving it suspended.
- Restart the console and check its network and online-service status.
- Update Roblox and the console software.
- Try another experience and compare public and private servers.
- Reinstall Roblox if the failure persists.
- Testing another account can help isolate an account or permission issue, but it is only a diagnostic step, not a dependable workaround.
Roblox provides separate console support categories, while Code 260 is not currently a dedicated console article (Roblox support categories).
If Error 260 happens only in Roblox Studio
- Confirm whether the retail Roblox Player can join normal experiences.
- Restart the computer and Studio, then install Studio updates.
- Run Play Test in a different place or a blank test project.
- Check whether the error appears only during Play Test.
- Save relevant Studio logs and include them in a support or bug report.
A Developer Forum report describes Code 260 during Studio Play Test even after reinstalling Player and Studio, so a Studio-only failure should not be treated as proof that the player installation or home DNS is at fault (Studio report).

Advanced network checks
On a school, work, hotel, or family-managed network, you may not have permission to change filtering or firewall rules. Ask the administrator to review Roblox access rather than bypassing controls.
Roblox states that its current connection troubleshooting port range is UDP 49152–65535 (connection guidance). This is for an administrator reviewing an allow-list; do not expose unnecessary services or make broad router changes just because Code 260 appeared.
Changing DNS to Google or Cloudflare may help a name-resolution problem, but Roblox does not prescribe one DNS provider as a universal Code 260 fix. DNS cannot repair an outage, a broken experience, corrupted files, or inadequate device resources.

What not to do
- Do not permanently disable antivirus, firewall, or parental controls.
- Do not install unofficial “Roblox repair” tools, boosters, or cracked clients.
- Do not give passwords or authentication codes to a supposed fixer.
- Do not factory-reset a device before testing another experience and network.
- Do not assume reinstalling, DNS changes, or a VPN will solve every case.
When to contact Roblox Support
If the error continues after the isolation tests and platform steps, contact Roblox through its official support channels. Include:
- The exact message and code.
- Your username, but never your password or authentication codes.
- Device model, operating system, and whether you use Roblox Player, Studio, Xbox, or PlayStation.
- The experience name and link.
- Whether every experience fails, and whether public or private servers differ.
- Network type, plus the result of the alternate-network test.
- Approximate date and time with time zone.
- A screenshot, video, or Studio log when available.
Use Roblox’s bug-reporting guidance when the behavior appears tied to a specific experience or Studio project.

Is Error 260 a ban?
No official source in Roblox’s current error-code list defines 260 as a ban. Ban-related situations use separately documented codes, such as 267 or 600 (Roblox error codes).

Is Code 260 the same as 277 or 279?
No. They are separate connection-related codes with different documented labels; sharing a connection theme does not make their causes interchangeable.
Why does Roblox work on mobile but not on PC?
That pattern points toward the PC’s installation, firewall, browser, extensions, or network path rather than proving an account problem. Compare both devices on the same network, then compare networks.
Why does only one game show it?
The experience or a particular server may be defective, overloaded, or misconfigured. Try another experience and report the issue to that creator if other games work.
Can low memory cause Code 260?
It has been suggested in community reports, especially for some mobile or console patterns, but Roblox has not established low memory as the official meaning of Code 260.
