Valve’s Canadian Black Friday promotion reduced the 256GB LCD Steam Deck to C$399, down from a reported C$499, saving C$100 (about 20%). The offer ended December 1, 2025. It did not include the 512GB or 1TB OLED models.
This was a historical Canadian promotion, not a current August 2026 price. For current configurations and availability, check Valve’s Steam Deck store page.
The deal in brief
| Detail | What the 2025 Canadian promotion offered |
|---|---|
| Product | Steam Deck 256GB LCD |
| Sale price | C$399 |
| Reported regular price | C$499 |
| Saving | C$100, or about 20% |
| Advertised end date | December 1, 2025 |
| OLED models included? | No |
The Canadian price and model were reported by MobileSyrup. The roughly 20% figure is calculated from the reported C$499 and C$399 prices; it is not a separate advertised percentage.
Which Steam Deck was discounted?
Only the entry-level 256GB LCD version was identified in the Canadian offer. It is the original LCD design, uses SteamOS, and provides access to a compatible Steam library. “Entry-level” describes its position in the range, not a separate gaming ecosystem.
#1 Best Overall
- Operating System: SteamOS 3.0
The 256GB internal drive is more practical than the earliest 64GB configuration, but a large modern library can still fill it quickly. A microSD card can expand capacity, although game performance from removable storage is not identical in every title.
What was not on sale?
The report said Valve’s OLED models remained at their historical November 2025 prices:
| Model | Reported Canadian price | Promotion status |
|---|---|---|
| 512GB OLED | C$689 | Not discounted |
| 1TB OLED | C$819 | Not discounted |
Those are historical figures, not verified August 2026 prices. The OLED range was excluded from the C$399 promotion, as reported by MobileSyrup.
When did the sale end?
The advertised deadline was December 1, 2025, and later coverage confirmed that the discount ended that day. Windows Central reported the post-sale status. US coverage cited a 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET cutoff, but that timing should not be treated as the confirmed Canadian cutoff; no exact Canadian time is established here.

- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.
- Expandable Storage: Add more space with a microSD card slot, ensuring you can bring even more games with you.
- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
Search results, deal pages, or retailer listings may retain the old “$399” headline after expiration. Treat C$399 as a historical reference unless a new promotion is explicitly verified at checkout.
Is the LCD Steam Deck still worth buying?
Reasons it made sense at C$399
- It offered the lowest-cost entry into Valve’s handheld PC platform.
- SteamOS provided a console-like interface for Steam-first players.
- The existing Steam library was the main attraction for users already invested in PC games.
- Storage could be expanded with a microSD card.
- The lower price left more room in a budget than an OLED Deck or many Windows handhelds.
Reasons to choose something else
- The LCD screen is less vibrant and generally less power-efficient than the OLED display.
- OLED models offer a larger, higher-quality screen, stronger battery endurance, and larger storage options.
- 256GB can be restrictive when several large games are installed.
- Newer handheld PCs can provide more performance, depending on the model and power setting.
- Some Windows-first games, non-Steam launchers, and competitive titles using unsupported anti-cheat may not work properly on SteamOS.
- The C$399 promotion has ended, and Canadian stock, pricing, shipping, taxes, returns, and warranty terms may have changed.
Choose by priority
Choose an LCD Steam Deck when
- Your library is mainly on Steam.
- The lowest purchase price matters more than screen quality.
- You are comfortable adding removable storage later.
- You do not need maximum performance in demanding new releases.
- You prefer SteamOS over a desktop-like Windows setup.
Choose an OLED Steam Deck when
- Display contrast and handheld battery endurance are important.
- You want a more premium screen and can pay the difference.
- You need more internal storage, particularly the 1TB option.
Choose a Windows handheld when
- Game Pass, Epic, multiple launchers, or anti-cheat-heavy multiplayer is essential.
- You prioritize higher frame rates over SteamOS simplicity.
- You want a larger, higher-resolution, or higher-refresh-rate display and accept more setup work.
Canadian buying checks
If you are evaluating a current Steam Deck listing, use Valve’s official store and verify the exact model before paying. The displayed hardware price may not be the final delivered total.

- Check shipping charges, delivery estimates, and regional stock.
- Review return and warranty terms for Canada.
- Make sure the currency is CAD; US coverage quoted US$319.20 during the equivalent promotion, which is not Canadian pricing.
- Check each game’s current Steam Deck compatibility, especially for anti-cheat, non-Steam launchers, and Windows-only software.
Alternatives to compare
The practical comparison is not just price. Consider operating system, game compatibility, screen, battery, storage, controls, support, and the amount of setup you will tolerate.
- Steam Deck OLED: the natural upgrade if screen quality, battery endurance, and internal storage matter more than the lowest entry cost.
- Lenovo Legion Go S: relevant for buyers seeking a larger display or more performance; a contemporary US Black Friday configuration was reported at US$649.99, reduced from US$899.99, which is historical US pricing rather than a Canadian quote. See Tom’s Hardware.
- ASUS ROG Ally family: a stronger fit for Windows compatibility, Game Pass, and broader launcher support. Consult ASUS’s official ROG Ally page for current models.
- Other Windows handhelds: Lenovo Legion Go, newer ROG models, Acer Nitro Blaze, AYANEO, and GPD devices may suit specialist needs, but Canadian warranty and support vary.
Bottom line on the C$399 offer
The deal was genuine: a 256GB LCD Steam Deck for C$399 instead of the reported C$499, with the OLED models excluded. It ended December 1, 2025. If you encounter that headline now, use it as a record of the 2025 promotion—not as proof of a live price—and compare any current listing against your priorities for display quality, storage, performance, and Windows compatibility.
