ASUS announced the ROG NUC (2025), model family NUC15JNK, on June 19, 2025. It puts Intel’s Core Ultra 9 275HX or Core Ultra 7 255HX and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU into a sub-three-liter-class desktop. ASUS lists the U.S. starting price at $2,799 as of August 18, 2026, although the exact hardware and stock depend on the SKU.
The crucial qualification is in the GPU name: this is the 16GB GDDR7 Laptop GPU implementation, rated by ASUS at up to 150W plus 25W Dynamic Boost—not the desktop RTX 5080 card. That makes the ROG NUC an unusually powerful compact PC, but not a conventional tower replacement for upgradeability or desktop-GPU performance.
What ASUS actually unveiled
ASUS positions the ROG NUC (2025) as a compact gaming and creator desktop rather than a business-oriented barebones NUC. The company calls it the world’s first sub-three-liter gaming mini PC combining the listed Core Ultra 9 processor and RTX 5080 Laptop GPU; that is an ASUS marketing claim, not an independent measurement. Its target audience includes 1440p gamers, creators using GPU acceleration, multi-monitor users and anyone who values desk space over standard desktop expansion.
The announcement is documented by ASUS at its June 19, 2025 release.

The CPU is from Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX mobile platform. “HX” denotes a high-performance mobile processor family, not a socketed desktop Core Ultra chip. ASUS lists a 45–75W configurable processor TDP range for the Core Ultra 9 and an integrated AI Boost NPU rated at up to 13 TOPS.
What “RTX 5080” means in this chassis
The headline configuration uses the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. ASUS lists a 150W GPU allocation plus 25W Dynamic Boost, and its U.S. ROG page describes the system as a 175W TGP configuration. That power envelope, the mobile implementation and the integrated design mean desktop RTX 5080 benchmarks are not directly transferable.
ASUS also lists these lower-tier configurations:
- RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU: 12GB GDDR7, 115W plus 25W Dynamic Boost.
- RTX 5070 Laptop GPU: 8GB GDDR7, 100W plus 15W Dynamic Boost.
- RTX 5060 Laptop GPU: 8GB GDDR7; ASUS lists Dynamic Boost but does not provide the same complete power detail in the announcement table.
In practical terms, the RTX 5080 version is aimed at high-end 1080p and 1440p gaming. 4K play can be viable depending on the game, ray-tracing settings, DLSS mode and sustained thermals. DLSS 4 features are supported, but independent long-duration testing is needed to establish temperatures, noise and frame rates. A TechRadar review tested an RTX 5080 unit with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD; those are review-unit specifications, not universal configurations.

Cooling, size and desk reality
The chassis uses three fans and a vapor-chamber cooling design. ASUS describes the internal chamber as “dual” on one page and “unified” on another, so the defensible summary is simply three-fan, vapor-chamber cooling. The chassis is tool-less, and ASUS provides ROG BIOS controls, but “silent cooling” remains a marketing description rather than an independently measured noise result.
The 282.4mm by 187.7mm by 56.5mm body stands vertically on its integrated base. That footprint is compact, but the base makes the lower section about 146mm tall and the external 330W adapter also occupies desk or floor space. The system is not designed as a freely reconfigurable horizontal box.
Ports, displays and networking
Rear I/O includes one Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1, two HDMI 2.1 FRL outputs, two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet, DC-in and a Kensington lock. The front adds two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port and a 3.5mm headset jack.

ASUS documentation is inconsistent on display count. The official product guide and U.S. ROG page say up to five 4K displays, while another ASUS page says four. Check the regional specification page and the exact connection combination before planning a five-screen setup.
Wi-Fi 7 is advertised at up to 5.8Gbps under specified channel-width and modulation conditions. That is a theoretical link rate, not a guaranteed internet or file-transfer speed; router capability, interference and channel availability determine real throughput.

What can be upgraded?
Users can replace or expand the memory through the two DDR5 slots and add drives to both M.2 sockets. ASUS documentation cites up to 96GB DDR5-6400, but shipped capacity varies by SKU and ASUS-qualified modules are the safest choice because the company uses both CSO-DIMM and SO-DIMM terminology across its materials.

The CPU and GPU are not conventional socketed desktop parts. They are integrated into the compact platform, so a future graphics-card swap is not an upgrade path. That distinction separates the ROG NUC from a small-form-factor tower even though both can use desktop peripherals.

Verdict
The 2025 ROG NUC is a genuinely powerful mini gaming PC, combining Arrow Lake-HX processing, high-speed connectivity, expandable RAM and dual NVMe storage in a remarkably small enclosure. Its central compromise is equally clear: the “RTX 5080” is a high-power laptop GPU, and the CPU/GPU platform is not conventionally upgradeable. In 2026, buy it only after confirming the exact SKU, live stock and price—and compare any discount against the newer ROG NUC 16.
