NYT Wordle Wednesday is the New York Times Games’ weekly Bonus Puzzles release, not a second daily Wordle answer. The Wednesday drop includes Wordle in 1, a five-round, clue-led Wordle variation, plus other puzzle formats that can change from week to week.
What is NYT Wordle Wednesday?
“NYT Wordle Wednesday” is the reader-friendly name for the New York Times Games Bonus Puzzles released every Wednesday. The Help Center describes Bonus Puzzles as a weekly release of five to six new puzzles, with the lineup varying by week. The September 2, 2026 launch announcement identifies Wordle in 1 as one of the formats in the release.
The Wednesday package is designed as optional, flexible play rather than another daily streak obligation. NYT Games head Jonathan Knight described it as a way to give solvers “more ways to play with no daily obligations.”
What is Wordle in 1?
Wordle in 1 is the Wordle-related game in the Bonus Puzzles lineup. Instead of solving one daily word with a limited number of guesses, you receive a clue and solve one word in each of five rounds.

How a round works
- Read the round’s clue.
- Enter guesses until you identify the single possible answer.
- Use the familiar color feedback: green marks a correct letter in the correct position, yellow marks a letter in the word but in the wrong position, and gray marks a letter that is not in the word.
- Move to another round whenever you want; completed rounds remain available to review.
Each round permits unlimited guesses. A complete Wordle in 1 game contains five clue-led rounds, each with one possible solution.
Timer and settings
A timer is enabled by default. You can turn it off in Settings. The timer pauses while How to Play, Settings, or a completed round is open, so those screens do not continue counting against an active attempt.
How is Wordle in 1 different from regular Wordle?
| Feature | Wordle in 1 | Regular Wordle |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Five rounds in one complete game | The familiar single daily Wordle game |
| Clue | Each round supplies a clue | Uses the standard Wordle starting format rather than a separate clue-led round structure |
| Guesses | Unlimited guesses within each round | Uses the regular game’s familiar guess limit |
| Feedback | Green, yellow, and gray letter feedback | Green, yellow, and gray letter feedback |
| Release cadence | Part of a weekly Wednesday Bonus Puzzles drop | Daily Wordle cadence |
| Replay | Earlier Bonus Puzzle weeks remain playable through the Bonus Puzzle Hub | Not the same weekly archive system |
| Access | Available to eligible NYT Games, All Access, and rollout-listed Home Delivery subscribers | Access terms follow the regular Wordle product |
The official material does not provide a standalone completion-time, participation, or difficulty statistic for NYT Wordle Wednesday, so there is no reliable published number to use for those comparisons.

How to get the most from a Wednesday release
Start with the clue, not a memorized opener
Because every round gives a clue and has one possible answer, read the clue carefully before spending guesses. The game is built around narrowing the answer from the clue and feedback rather than preserving a daily-game streak.
