It was a promotional sweepstakes prize for the Deadpool & Wolverine campaign, not a normal retail accessory. The sweepstakes ended on August 11, 2024, so there is no verified current Microsoft Store release to buy in 2026.
What the Deadpool Cheeky Controller was
Microsoft and Marvel Studios unveiled the controller on July 17, 2024, ahead of the July 26 theatrical release of Deadpool & Wolverine. The official announcement describes it as a custom Xbox Wireless Controller, rather than an Xbox Elite model or a new controller platform. Its front retains the familiar Xbox layout, while the rear is reshaped into two prominent red-and-black “cheeks” modeled on Deadpool’s costume and backside.
The design was deliberately comic and suggestive, matching Deadpool’s irreverent marketing style. Xbox described the grip as “firm” but “surprisingly comfortable”; that is a promotional characterization, not the result of independent ergonomic testing. Exact dimensions, weight, battery life, model number, production quantity and retail MSRP were not published in the available official material.
Xbox also showed a physical unit being unboxed and handled during the official Xbox Podcast, confirming that the controller was more than a concept render. The presentation treated it as a functioning wireless gamepad with batteries and normal gameplay discussion.

How the giveaway worked
The controller was part of a global sweepstakes tied to the film campaign, not a conventional product launch. The original entry window and prize details were:

Is it a real, usable Xbox controller?
Yes. Xbox presented it as a working custom Xbox Wireless Controller, and the official podcast demonstrated a physical unit. That supports describing it as a functional accessory for ordinary Xbox use, not a nonfunctional display prop.

There is no published independent testing for wireless range, battery endurance, Windows compatibility, wired data behavior, vibration, triggers or long-session comfort. The practical ergonomic question therefore remains open: the raised rear surfaces may suit some hands, but Xbox’s comfort statement should not be treated as a laboratory finding or a long-term review.
Deadpool controller versus the other 2024 accessories
The Cable Guys holder promotion
Xbox separately offered a Deadpool-themed Cable Guys holder by EXG Pro. The first 1,000 customers who bought an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core from the Microsoft Store on July 22, 2024, could receive the holder while supplies lasted. That offer was limited to the United States and Canada.
The holder is a display stand that holds a controller; it is not the cheek-shaped Deadpool controller. The promotion was also time-limited and should not be assumed to accompany an Elite Series 2 – Core purchased today. See the Xbox announcement for the original terms.
Wolverine’s matching design
On July 22, 2024, Xbox revealed a second cheek-themed custom controller inspired by Wolverine’s yellow-and-blue suit. It was promoted through a separate Microsoft Instagram promotion, while the Deadpool controller was tied to the Xbox/X sweepstakes. The two designs formed a playful “battle of the butts” around the film’s co-leads; they were not one standard retail product line.

Can you buy the Deadpool controller now?
There is no verified normal retail release, public MSRP or continuing production run in the official information. Because the sweepstakes ended in 2024, a unit encountered now should be treated as a prize-owned collectible or a secondary-market listing, not as a current Microsoft product.
Official sources describe the podcast sample as one of “very few” units, but they do not establish a definitive production count. Claims such as “only one made” or “only 100 produced” need separate official proof.

A listing can represent several different things. Confirm which one you are being offered before discussing price:
- Official promotional unit: the rare controller shown by Xbox, with the distinctive cheek-shaped rear shell.
- Custom shell or modification: a standard controller altered or painted by a third party.
- Ordinary Deadpool-themed controller: character graphics without the sculpted cheek profile.
- Cable Guys holder: a stand, not a functioning controller.
- Related console hardware: the promotional Series X, stand or a console skin rather than the controller.
For a serious purchase, request clear photographs of the rear shell, face controls, labels and battery compartment; original Xbox packaging; prize correspondence or other provenance; proof of wireless pairing and button operation; and a return policy. Be cautious when a seller uses official promotional images but cannot show the actual item, omits packaging history, or prices an unverified custom modification as an authentic prize.

Who should seek one out?
Collectors and novelty fans
The controller makes sense as Deadpool or Xbox memorabilia, especially when provenance and condition matter more than technical specifications. Its cultural value comes from the absurd sculpted design and the limited promotional distribution.
Everyday and competitive players
It was not marketed as an ergonomic or competitive upgrade. The unusual rear profile could complicate storage, transport and shell repair, while a rare replacement may be difficult to find. A standard Xbox Wireless Controller offers clearer support and availability; the Elite Series 2 offers documented customization features for players who actually need them.

Verdict
The Cheeky Controller is one of Xbox’s most intentionally ridiculous promotional accessories: a genuine, usable custom wireless controller shaped around Deadpool’s backside. Its significance is collectible and cultural rather than technical. Since the 2024 sweepstakes is over and no regular retail release was established, buyers in 2026 should verify provenance carefully and choose a standard or Elite controller if reliable everyday gaming is the priority.
