To play Call of Duty: Black Ops II through Plutonium on Windows, download the Plutonium launcher from its official installation guide, then point it to an installed copy of BO2. Plutonium calls the game T6. The launcher and game are separate: Plutonium does not provide a free copy of Black Ops II.
What you need before starting
- A Windows PC: Plutonium’s standard installation guide uses Windows prompts and file paths. It does not establish an official Steam Deck or Linux installation procedure.
- Black Ops II for PC: Install the game from an authorized source. The Steam listing is the PC edition’s store page.
- A Plutonium account: You’ll sign in with Plutonium forum credentials. Create an account on the Plutonium site if you don’t have one.
- Steam access, if applicable: Keep Steam running and logged into the account that owns BO2 if Plutonium asks you to verify ownership.
- DLC, only if needed: You need the relevant DLC installed to access DLC maps or Zombies content; the launcher should not be assumed to supply those files.
Plutonium’s documentation distinguishes its launcher from the underlying game and identifies BO2 as T6: Plutonium documentation.
Download the official Plutonium launcher
- Open the Plutonium installation guide and use its launcher download control.
- Save
plutonium.exesomewhere easy to find, such as a dedicated Plutonium folder. Avoid third-party mirrors, bundled game downloads, and sites offering replacement DLLs.
If Windows SmartScreen appears, Plutonium’s guide says to select More info, then Run anyway. Only consider that prompt for the executable obtained from the official Plutonium site; it is not a reason to approve an unknown file from a mirror.
Install and launch Plutonium BO2
- Open
plutonium.exeand sign in with your Plutonium forum account. The launcher may download or update client files during initial setup. - Choose T6 Multiplayer or T6 Zombies in the launcher.
- Select SETUP.
- Browse to the folder containing the Black Ops II game files and select that folder. A typical Steam location is
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonCall of Duty Black Ops II, but the drive and library location can differ. - If Plutonium requests ownership verification, follow the instructions below.
- When setup finishes, select PLAY.
The mode selector and setup flow are described in the Plutonium launcher setup guide. The official installation guide says that if the first launch crashes while the client removes or replaces a file, launch it again.
#1 Best Overall
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Find the right Black Ops II folder in Steam
Use Steam to open the installed game directory instead of guessing the path:
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
- Choose Manage, then Browse local files.
- Use the folder that opens as the game path in Plutonium.
A second Steam library might use a path such as D:SteamLibrarysteamappscommonCall of Duty Black Ops II. Select the game’s own folder, not the drive root, the Steam folder, steamappscommon, or Documents. The exact folder name and drive can vary; the important point is that the selected directory contains BO2’s files.
Verify Steam ownership if Plutonium asks
Verification can depend on your client version and account state; it is not accurate to assume every user follows one identical route. Plutonium documents both launcher-based and forum-based methods in its ownership verification update.

Try verification in the launcher
- Start Steam and sign in to the account that owns BO2.
- In Plutonium, open Game Settings for the relevant game.
- Select Verify Ownership.
- Check the Steam Games area of your Plutonium account for the result.
Use the forum-based method if needed
- Make your Steam profile and game details public if required for verification.
- Associate your Steam account with your Plutonium forum account.
- Open the account’s Steam Games section and confirm that BO2 is detected and verified.
Fix common setup and launch problems
“Invalid Game Path”
This usually means Plutonium was pointed at a parent folder, drive root, or directory that does not contain the game files. In the launcher, open Game Settings beside the BO2 launch control and select the actual Call of Duty Black Ops II directory. The installation guide explains the expected game-folder selection.

For a Steam installation, use Steam’s file check to repair or redownload missing files:
- In Steam Library, right-click BO2 and open Properties.
- Open the local files or installed files section and choose Steam’s option to verify the integrity of the game files.
- Let Steam complete any repair, then reopen Plutonium.
Plutonium’s repair documentation describes Steam file verification for supported Steam installations. Corrupt fastfiles, missing images, or missing sounds can also point to incomplete or incompatible files; repair the game through Steam rather than downloading miscellaneous replacements.

- This renewed game may come repackaged in a generic case. It has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Ownership is not detected
- Confirm Steam is open and using the account that owns BO2.
- Confirm the game is installed and Steam can validate its files.
- Check that Plutonium is pointed at the actual BO2 directory.
- Try Game Settings → Verify Ownership; if that fails, use the forum association and verification route above.
Do not use an ownership-check bypass. For instructions and current account steps, see Plutonium’s ownership verification update.
Firewall or connection trouble
Plutonium’s T6 FAQ attributes many connection problems to firewall configuration. If you trust the official launcher and game files, check that Windows Firewall permits them to communicate. Don’t disable security software globally or install a purported fix from an unrelated download site.
An antivirus alert appears
Plutonium’s FAQ says antivirus alerts can be false positives, but that is not a guarantee that every flagged file is harmless. Verify that the launcher came from the official Plutonium domain, avoid unofficial bundles, and do not turn off antivirus protection broadly to force an unknown executable to run.

Is Plutonium BO2 free?
The Plutonium launcher is obtained through Plutonium’s official site; the Black Ops II game is a separate commercial product. Plutonium is not an authorized free download of Activision’s game. If you need BO2, use an authorized source such as its Steam product page. Activision’s software license describes a limited license and restrictions on copying, distribution, and unauthorized transfers. Avoid torrents, cracks, repacks, and ownership bypasses; Plutonium says SKIDROW and NOSTEAM repacks are unsupported in its T6 FAQ.

- Upgraded weapons, attachments and equipment: Near-future warfare means upgrades in technology that soldiers will use in the field. Additionally, weapon perks are now built into the attachments.
DLC content
To use DLC maps or Zombies content, the relevant DLC must be installed. Plutonium’s FAQ notes that selecting a Steam BO2 installation does not itself mean DLC content is installed.
These mode and content limitations are covered in Plutonium’s T6 FAQ.
Steam Deck and Linux
The standard Plutonium installation guide is Windows-oriented and does not establish a complete official Steam Deck or Linux setup. Community workflows may involve Proton or other compatibility steps, but they are separate from the Windows procedure above; don’t treat them as verified official instructions.
