This guide covers the verified progression systems, opening priorities, edition differences and optional purchases. It does not invent room names, collectible coordinates or boss weaknesses that have not been publicly established.
Choose your edition before starting
The base game is available on Nintendo Switch, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds platform-specific presentation and control options. Nintendo lists single-system play, TV, tabletop and handheld modes, plus amiibo support.

GamesRadar reports two Switch 2 display modes: Quality at 4K/60 and Performance at 1080p/120. Treat those as reported mode targets and check the live regional price before buying; the same report lists an upgrade price of $9.99/£7.99. Switch 2 also supports mouse-capable Joy-Con controls, which may appeal to players who prefer pointer-style aiming or menu navigation.

If you are shopping specifically for the game, the relevant base purchase is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch game. The upgrade pack is an edition add-on, not a replacement for owning the game.
What to do when Samus reaches Viewros
Samus is transported to Viewros, an ancient jungle world, and her stated objective is to explore it and find a way home. The Lamorn are an ancient alien race connected to the planet’s ruins, while Sylux is an opposing bounty hunter hostile to both the Galactic Federation and Samus.
Opening priorities
- Scan every statue, ruin and unfamiliar object. The Scan Visor is not just a lore tool: Nintendo’s description places environmental scanning at the center of discovering clues on Viewros.
- Clear nearby threats before investigating. First-person combat is safer when you remove creatures that can interrupt a scan or force you away from a puzzle.
- Check passages for ability gates. Mark routes that require Morph Ball movement, missiles or a psychic ability so you can return after Samus grows stronger.
- Read the environment rather than searching for a single linear corridor. Viewros combines jungle spaces, ruins and traversal areas; progress comes from connecting clues with the abilities you have available.
A complete, verified room-by-room map and collectible coordinate list is not established here, so use this sequence as a progression method rather than as a substitute for an in-game map.
Visor and exploration fundamentals
Scanning
Use the Scan Visor whenever you encounter stone statues, alien architecture, unusual machinery or an object that behaves differently from its surroundings. Scan before destroying a target or moving on: environmental clues can explain what a ruin does and may reveal how a route is intended to open.
Reading a blocked route
- If the path is too small for Samus, look for a Morph Ball approach.
- If a mechanism responds to beam energy or explosives, test the Power Beam and Missile Launcher only after clearing enemies that can punish close inspection.
- If an object reacts at a distance or appears to redirect energy, expect a psychic-power interaction once those abilities have been acquired.
Backtracking discipline
Do not treat an inaccessible doorway as a dead end. Record the visual reason it is blocked, continue through currently open routes, and revisit it after obtaining the matching ability. This is the intended rhythm of Prime-style exploration: investigate, gain a tool, then reinterpret earlier spaces.

Combat: beams, missiles and safe positioning
Power Beam
The Power Beam is a returning core weapon. Use it for routine encounters and to test whether a target or mechanism responds to standard beam fire before spending limited ammunition.
Missile Launcher
Reserve missiles for enemies, armored targets or environmental locks that resist ordinary beam shots. Fire from a position with room to retreat, especially when learning an unfamiliar creature’s attack pattern.
Combat loop
- Scan or observe the enemy if it is unfamiliar.
- Strafe and keep an exit route instead of standing directly in front of a target.
- Use the Power Beam for ordinary pressure.
- Switch to missiles when armor, distance or a puzzle clearly calls for them.
- After the arena is safe, rescan the surrounding machinery and walls; combat spaces can also contain progression clues.
Psychic abilities add another combat layer. GamesRadar describes them affecting beam control and enemy encounters, so a fight may require manipulating an attack or environmental energy rather than simply increasing damage.

Samus acquires psychic abilities while exploring Viewros. They are used for puzzles, beam control, enemy encounters and opening routes. Because the exact ability names and room-by-room solutions are not established in the available material, approach each psychic interaction as a recognition problem:
- Look for a responsive object. A device that glows, pivots or reacts without ordinary beam fire is a likely psychic target.
- Change your position. Psychic effects may depend on line of sight, angle or distance; move around the room before assuming a mechanism is inactive.
- Separate combat from manipulation. Clear immediate threats first, then experiment with the object so enemy attacks do not reset your attempt.
- Revisit earlier barriers. A newly acquired psychic power can open a route that missiles or the Power Beam could not.
Morph Ball gates and planned backtracking
The Morph Ball remains a central traversal tool. Whenever Samus cannot fit through a gap in normal form, inspect the nearby floor, wall and machinery for a rolling route rather than searching for a different area.

How to handle a Morph Ball gate
- Confirm that the opening is physically sized for Morph Ball movement.
- Scan adjacent structures for a clue or activation point.
- Check whether the route continues into a combat arena, puzzle chamber or alternate side of the same ruin.
- If the route is still sealed, note it and return after acquiring the next relevant ability.
Morph Ball traversal is also a backtracking signal: previously decorative gaps and low tunnels can become meaningful once the correct form or power is available.
Vi-O-La traversal and open-area fights
Vi-O-La is a rideable advanced bike used for environmental travel and open-area combat. Treat it as a movement system first and a weapon platform second.
- Use open space. Maintain momentum and avoid steering into terrain while enemies are attacking.
- Approach unfamiliar areas at a controlled pace. Scan or visually inspect the route before committing to a long run.
- Separate travel from dismounted investigation. If a clue, statue or mechanism is too precise to read from the bike, stop and inspect it on foot.
- Expect combat while moving. Vi-O-La is designed for open-area encounters, so keep a route around enemies instead of stopping in the middle of a group.
Bosses and major encounters
No verified boss weakness table is supplied for this guide. Do not assume that every major encounter has a single beam type or scripted weak point.
Preparation checklist
- Scan the arena and surrounding devices before committing to the fight.
- Keep missiles available until you know whether the encounter requires them.
- Identify cover, open lanes and Morph Ball-sized escape routes.
- Test psychic interactions if the arena contains objects that react separately from the boss.
- After the encounter, rescan the room; a defeated enemy may expose a route or mechanism rather than simply ending the sequence.
Amiibo and optional content
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond series amiibo are optional physical figures. Nintendo says the first scan of an associated amiibo unlocks its related in-game feature. The base game is required to play; amiibo are collectibles and convenience extras, not progression prerequisites.

Quick troubleshooting by symptom
“I cannot find the next route.”
Rescan statues, ruins and machinery; then inspect for a Morph Ball-sized opening or a psychic response. If the barrier still has no interaction, continue through another open path and return after acquiring a new ability.

“My missiles disappear too quickly.”
Use the Power Beam for ordinary enemies and save missiles for armored targets, locks or encounters that visibly resist standard fire.
“A psychic puzzle does nothing.”
Move to a different angle, clear nearby enemies and test whether the object must be approached on foot rather than from Vi-O-La. Some routes are intentionally unavailable until Samus acquires the relevant psychic ability.
“Which Switch 2 mode should I use?”
Choose Quality if you prefer the reported 4K/60 presentation; choose Performance if you prefer the reported 1080p/120 target. Your display and preference for resolution versus responsiveness should decide the setting.
